Lin Feng thought Wang Yue wouldn't come.

He had mentioned the matter of rehiring a secretary to Li Juan the night before, asking her to screen a few resumes for future reference. Li Juan adjusted her glasses, made a note in her notebook, and didn't ask any further questions.

The next morning, when Lin Feng arrived at the company, there were only a few employees who had arrived early in the office area.

As I walked down the corridor, I saw that the secretary's workstation was empty. I sighed slightly, pushed open the office door, draped my suit jacket over the back of the chair, and sat down to start reviewing the documents I needed to process that day.

About ten minutes later, there was a gentle knock on the office door.

"Enter."

The door opened, and Wang Yue walked in carrying a tray. On the tray was a glass of perfectly warm water.

This was his habit every morning after arriving at the office, and she remembered it on her first day at the company.

Today she changed into a clean set of work clothes. Her light blue short-sleeved shirt was neatly ironed, and her black pencil skirt just covered her mid-thighs. Her long legs were covered by thin flesh-colored stockings, which gleamed faintly in the morning light.

Her hair was tied into a low ponytail, and she had put on delicate makeup again, with the bluish-gray at the corners of her eyes fading considerably.

He looks much more energetic.

"Good morning, Mr. Lin. This is today's visitor appointment list. There are two project presentations from the business departments this morning, and the engineering department will be coming at 3 PM to report on the exploration progress of Plot 5."

She placed the tray on the desk, put a printed appointment form in front of Lin Feng, stood still, opened her notebook, and began to report today's schedule in a clear and steady voice.

Then she added, "Regarding the landscaping project that Minister Lu from the Business Department mentioned yesterday, I have prepared the preliminary letter of intent and sent it to your email."

Lin Feng picked up his water glass and took a sip; the water temperature was just right.

Leaning back in his chair, he glanced at Wang Yue, somewhat surprised.

I thought this girl would struggle for a long time, but I didn't expect that she would get back into the swing of things after only one day of adjustment.

He didn't ask how she came to her senses, what she went through last night, or how things went with her boyfriend.

Everyone has their own private matters, and he won't interfere as long as it doesn't affect his work.

"Okay. Go ahead and get busy."

Wang Yue nodded and turned to leave. She paused at the door, her lips moving as if she wanted to say something, but ultimately she simply turned back to Lin Feng, bowed slightly, and gently closed the door.

The afternoon business department meeting was held in a small conference room. Lu Fei led the core members of the two groups in the business department to attend, and Lao Zhang, the head of the scattered group, and several core salespersons from the task force group were also present.

The conference room wall displayed a projected business progress chart from the previous week, with different colors used to indicate the progress of each project.

Wang Yue sat to the side and slightly behind Lin Feng, with a notebook spread out on her lap, taking quick notes of the meeting's key points every few minutes.

Halfway through the meeting, Xiao Wang from the task force stood up and began to report on the progress of the cooperation with Baofeng Enterprise in Zijin City.

He was a young man in his late twenties, wearing black-rimmed glasses, and speaking very quickly. He was the kind of salesman who was full of energy but could be impulsive at times.

He flipped through the price list on the PPT, his voice growing softer and softer as he spoke.

"Baofeng suddenly changed their minds yesterday, lowering the unit price by several percentage points. This leaves our profit margin too small. After preliminary calculations, if we work at their new price, after deducting labor and material costs, it's basically a waste of time. This is a medium-sized municipal infrastructure project in Zijin City. If they also lower the price for the subsequent second and third phases, taking this order is like working for Baofeng."

After he finished speaking, he put the laser pointer on the table, lowered his head, and said that this time he had not considered things thoroughly and had not figured out Baofeng's background during the preliminary research.

Later, through a friend in Zijin City, I learned that this company had a bad reputation locally. Although it seemed to be quite large, it often delayed payments for projects. Several suppliers were owed money for more than a year before they were finally paid.

Lin Feng leaned back in his chair and waved his hand.

"Don't blame yourself, this lesson was worth it. In the future, before taking on any order, we must thoroughly understand the other party's payment history and industry reputation. Especially for out-of-town clients, the distance is far, and if problems arise, our cost of protecting our rights will be much higher." He turned to Lu Fei and said, "Let's put this project on hold for now and shift our focus to other projects. In the future, before the business department negotiates with new clients, we should send someone to visit the local area to check their reputation and, ideally, get some firsthand feedback from our partners."

Lu Fei nodded and jotted down a few notes in his notebook. Wang Yue quickly took notes beside him, the pen scratching softly on the paper.

While taking notes, she would slightly furrow her brow, gently purse her lips, and occasionally glance at Lin Feng.

It was discovered that Raymond Lam never gets angry when his subordinates make mistakes. He always calms them down first, then gives advice, and always ends by saying, "Let's all learn from this experience."

He spoke these words with a calm expression and a light tone, but every word hit the mark, making it sound like he was just being perfunctory.

He couldn't help but drift off, his pen lingering on the paper for a while, until Raymond Lam said "Next topic" and he suddenly came back to his senses.

Just before leaving get off work, Wang Yue's phone vibrated in her drawer. She glanced down at the screen; it was a message from Yuan Hui.

"Can we meet today? I have something I want to tell you. I'll wait for you near your company."

She stared at the screen for a long time, her thumb hovering over the keyboard for a while, before typing two words and sending them.

"OK."

After getting off work, Wang Yue packed her things and walked out of the office building. She saw Yuan Hui standing in front of the convenience store across the street.

Wearing a dark blue polo shirt, her hair wasn't styled with hair gel as meticulously as before, but casually draped over her forehead, making her look a bit more haggard than usual.

He was carrying a plastic bag when he saw Wang Yue walk out of the revolving door and quickly waved to her.

The two met at a small restaurant near the company. The restaurant wasn't big, but the environment was relatively quiet.

Yuan Hui arrived early and had already ordered the dishes—all of which were Wang Yue's favorites. He sat in a booth, his hands on the table, rubbing his fingers back and forth, his eyes fixed on the door.
