The Secret of the Yoga Club: The Women's Identity is Not Simple
Chapter 291 Nighttime Oral English Lesson
The nights in the mountains are free from urban light pollution, and you can see a sky full of stars when you look up.
The croaking of frogs came in waves from the rice paddies, mixed with the occasional bark of a dog in the distance.
Wang Yue arranged for Lin Feng to stay in the guest room she had prepared in her own home. The bed was covered with new sheets that Wang's mother had just changed that afternoon, and they still smelled of fresh laundry soap.
Wang Yue followed in, carrying a coil of mosquito coils and an old electric fan. She squatted down, lit the mosquito coils, and placed them in the corner.
After the fan was turned on, the blades started spinning with a buzzing sound. Although it was quite noisy, the airflow was still acceptable.
"There are a lot of mosquitoes in the mountains, so please bear with it. This fan is a bit noisy, so turn it off if you find it too loud. It's cool up in the mountains at night, so you can sleep with the window open."
"It's great. It's even quieter than the five-star hotels in the city." Lin Feng walked to the window and opened it, letting in the night breeze carrying the scent of rice and the sweet, earthy smell of soil.
Leaning against the window frame, I looked out at the terraced fields, which were bathed in moonlight and appeared almost white. In the distance, a few fireflies flickered among the grass on the field ridges.
Wang Yue walked to his side and stood still, her hands resting on the windowsill, following his gaze to the field.
"What are you thinking about?"
"When I was little, it was so hot on summer nights that my grandma would hold me and sit under the locust tree in the yard to cool off. She would fan me while singing folk songs from our area. Later, when I went to middle school in the county town, she would wait for me at the village entrance every time I came back, no matter how late it was."
The voice was very soft, as if talking to oneself.
"I'm really happy that you could come today. My parents are too. They don't say it, but I know they're happy. When I was studying in the village, they thought it was their greatest pride that I got into university. Later, I went to Hohai University, entered Shuke High School, and met you. They were worried that I would be bullied outside. Now that you're here, they won't worry anymore."
Lin Feng reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Looking at her profile illuminated by the moonlight, she seemed like the same person, yet also like two different people.
"I'll come back with you every year from now on. Make a list for me of what medicine your grandma needs, what farm tools your dad needs, and what household appliances your mom needs, and I'll have someone arrange it."
"President Lin—"
"Still calling him General Manager Lin?"
"Lin Feng." Wang Yue turned her head to look at him, the moonlight falling into her pupils, shining like two stars. "Thank you."
Silently to myself, I thought those three words were simply not enough. Before, when I heard him assigning tasks to others in the office and saying, "My people can't be taken advantage of," I thought he was just habitually protecting his own.
But today, when she saw him squatting by the mud wall handing medicine to her grandmother, demonstrating how to use the wheelchair to her father, and helping her mother in the kitchen, she finally understood the true meaning of those words.
She just didn't know how to repay this kindness—Yuan Hui used to always say "how much I've done for you," as if every meal he treated her to was on a bill waiting to be paid back.
But Lin Feng never mentioned these things; in his eyes, these were things he was simply supposed to do.
It was the first time Wang Yue had ever known that being cared for could feel like this. She felt very lucky, but she didn't dare to show it too obviously, so she could only swallow all her words and bury her face in his chest.
Suddenly, she felt that this night might be the best night of her life, so she tightened her arms around his waist.
……
The nights in the mountains are indeed cool, so there's no need to turn on the air conditioner. The night breeze sneaks in through the cracks in the window, carrying the unique sweet scent of rice paddies and bamboo forests.
Lin Feng rolled over on the wooden bed in the guest room. The bed creaked, and then he heard a buzzing sound coming from afar, stopping precisely above his forehead.
I raised my hand and slapped it, but missed.
About ten seconds later, the sound came again, this time right next to his ear. He slapped his own ear with his backhand, and his ears rang for a while before the mosquito finally flew away.
He simply sat up, took out a cigarette and a lighter from his pocket, walked to the window, and opened it.
The night breeze from the mountains rushed in, carrying the fresh scent of rice paddies and soil, and felt cool on my face.
The terraced fields outside shimmered with a silvery light under the moonlight, while the dark outlines of the bamboo forest in the distance swayed gently in the night breeze.
The croaking of frogs came in waves, and occasionally a dog barked from the other end of the village. I glanced down at my phone; it was only just past midnight.
I lit a cigarette, propped my elbow against the window frame, and looked out at the eerily quiet night view of the mountain village.
Just as he was about to flick the cigarette butt away, the wooden door behind him clicked softly. Turning around, he saw Wang Yue squeeze in through the crack in the door, illuminated by the moonlight streaming through the window.
The other person was wearing a thin cotton nightgown, the white fabric almost transparent in the moonlight, with only two buttons fastened at the neckline, and a shallow cleavage below the collarbone was faintly visible at the edge of the neckline.
The nightgown was very short, just covering her upper thighs, and two smooth, long legs extended from under the hem. She wasn't wearing stockings, and the moonlight shone on her legs, making her skin glow white.
"Why aren't you asleep yet?" Lin Feng stubbed out his cigarette on the windowsill.
"I couldn't sleep. I was too excited." Wang Yue gently closed the door and walked up to him. "You were also woken up by mosquitoes, right? There are a lot of mosquitoes in the mountains, and mosquito coils don't always work. I heard some noise from next door, so I came over to check."
As she spoke, her hands were behind her back, her body leaned slightly forward, and the neckline of her nightgown dropped a little, revealing more of her fair skin.
Her hair was loose over her shoulders, and there were still faint marks left on her face from the pillow when she had been lying on the bed.
Lin Feng reached out and pulled her closer. Her waist was very slender, and he could feel the warmth of her body emanating from his palm through the thin cotton fabric.
Wang Yue obediently leaned into his arms, sat down on his lap, naturally wrapped her arms around his neck, and buried her face in his shoulder.
This position caused the hem of her nightgown to ride up quite a bit, completely exposing her thighs to the air, where the moonlight shone on them, giving them a faint sheen.
Lin Feng's hand naturally landed on her leg, his fingertips slowly sliding up her smooth skin, from the outside of her thigh to the inside, and then back again.
"Your skin doesn't look like that of people from the village at all."
Wang Yue buried her face in his neck, her voice muffled and a little embarrassed. "My grandma used to say I was thick-skinned. When I was little, I would help her pull weeds in the fields, and my legs would be covered in red welts from insect bites."
"That's different." Lin Feng's fingers gently circled on her thigh. Wang Yue felt weak all over from his touch and lifted her face from his neck to look into his eyes.
She felt that the best decision she had ever made was to open up to Raymond Lam during the last team-building event.
"I want to discuss something with you." Lin Feng's fingers stopped on her thigh. "It's Grandma's 80th birthday, and I want to make it a big celebration. Tomorrow I'll go to town and find a catering team that specializes in organizing banquets, and also hire a country band and a lion dance troupe. I'll invite everyone in the village to come and celebrate Grandma's birthday together."
Wang Yue paused for a moment, then quickly shook her head. "It's too much of a waste, Lin Feng, really, there's no need for this. We just celebrate birthdays at home with a meal, no need for such a grand affair."
"This might be the only time your grandma celebrates her birthday. She raised you from a young age, so this day deserves to be grand. Don't worry about the money." Lin Feng moved his hand from her thigh to her lower back, patting it gently. His tone was casual. "Besides, it's her granddaughter's boyfriend's first time visiting, so we can't not even have a decent birthday banquet. It's settled then."
Wang Yue's eyes slowly reddened.
The moonlight shone on her face, revealing a fine, moist sheen on her eyelashes. Her lips moved, as if she wanted to say something, but felt that nothing she said would be enough.
She bit her lip, then suddenly lowered her head and pressed her forehead against his, their noses touching, their breaths mingling.
"I don't know how to thank you. You've given me so much; just when I'm getting used to something, you give me something new."
Lin Feng's fingers slowly slid up her spine, gently pressing on the area between her shoulder blades. "No need to thank me, let me see how much your spoken English has improved."
Wang Yue's face flushed instantly, clearly visible in the moonlight, the redness spreading from her cheeks all the way to her ears.
She bit her lower lip, but her eyes sparkled as she looked at Lin Feng, her voice barely audible, "...Here? The window is still open."
Lin Feng didn't say anything, he just looked at her and pinched her lower back lightly with his fingers.
Wang Yue understood what he meant.
She slid off his lap, her knees landing on the wooden floor, and placed her hands on his knees. One of the straps of her nightgown slipped down, revealing most of her shoulder and collarbone.
