The Secret of the Yoga Club: The Women's Identity is Not Simple
Chapter 348 An Unintentional Test
The next morning, Lin Feng had just finished washing up when his phone rang.
I glanced at the caller ID; it was Wang Fang calling.
When he answered the phone, her gentle voice came from the other end, tinged with a hint of cautious inquiry: "Mr. Lin, are you up? We agreed yesterday that you would come over today to change your dressing. I made some breakfast while I was at it. If you don't mind, please come and have some with us."
Lin Feng's tone was just the right amount of politeness: "Sister Wang, you're too kind. I had a meal with you yesterday, and now you're doing it again today. I feel bad. I was just about to buy a couple of steamed buns downstairs to tide me over."
"Steamed buns aren't very nutritious. Your foot injury hasn't healed yet, you need to eat something light and nutritious. I've made millet porridge and steamed osmanthus cake, all freshly made. Come on over, it's not far. You're a guest, and also Xiaoyu's savior, a meal is nothing."
The voice on the other end of the phone carried an unyielding insistence, accompanied by the soft sound of a spatula hitting a wok, indicating that she had been busy in the kitchen for a while.
Lin Feng didn't refuse again. After hanging up the phone, he changed into clean clothes. The bandage on his left foot still hurt a little when he stepped on the floor, but it didn't bother him anymore.
When we arrived at the pet store, the glass door was half open, and the air was filled with the sweet aroma of millet porridge mixed with osmanthus cake.
Wang Fang was carrying a steamer basket out of the kitchen when she saw him standing at the door and quickly invited him to sit down.
Today I changed into a light blue cotton-linen short-sleeved shirt, my hair casually tucked behind my ears, with a few wisps falling beside my cheeks. I looked less reserved than yesterday, with a more natural, relaxed vibe. "Come sit down, the porridge is freshly cooked, and the osmanthus cake is still warm. I deliberately put less sugar in it when I steamed it, because I was afraid you Jiangbei people wouldn't like it too sweet."
Lin Feng sat down at the small dining table, where several breakfast items were already laid out.
Millet porridge, osmanthus cake, golden-fried eggs, a dish of pickled radishes, a few thinly sliced braised beef, and a small bowl of steaming wontons on the side.
Everything was made with exquisite care. The edges of the poached eggs were fried until slightly crispy, the pickled radishes were cut into almost transparent thin slices and arranged neatly, the wonton wrappers were so thin they were translucent, and the soup noodles were topped with bright green scallions and a few drops of sesame oil.
This wasn't something done casually; it was meticulously prepared. "Sister Wang, this is such a lavish meal! What time did you get up to prepare it?"
"It's not that early. I usually make breakfast for Xiaoyu anyway, so I made a little extra today. Please don't be shy, eat more. Your foot injury needs nutrition." She wiped her hands with her apron as she spoke, her movements very natural, as if she were entertaining a familiar friend, not a stranger she had only known for a day.
The little boy was already sitting at the table, with a bowl of wontons in front of him, clumsily scooping the soup with a spoon.
Seeing Lin Feng come in, she put down her spoon, looked up at him, her lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but she swallowed her words back. She just grinned at Lin Feng, revealing a row of neat white teeth.
During the meal, Lin Feng took the initiative to start conversations, talking about the history of Qingxi Town and the local tea culture, and also asking her how long her pet shop had been open and how business was going.
While peeling an egg for Xiaoyu, Wang Fang answered, saying that the shop had been open for several years. There weren't many people in the town who kept pets, but the regular customers were stable, and she could barely make a living. Mainly, she liked small animals, so she didn't feel tired.
Lin Feng praised her cooking skills a few more times, saying that the wontons were even more exquisite than those he had eaten at a fancy restaurant.
Wang Fang was a little embarrassed by the praise. She lowered her head and picked up a piece of braised beef for her son. Her ears turned slightly red, and she said softly, "It's just a home-style cooking method. I'm glad you don't mind."
She still ate very politely, sitting upright at the small table, her chopsticks moving gracefully and calmly, clearly a girl who had received a good upbringing.
After finishing the meal, Wang Fang cleared away the dishes and chopsticks, took out the first-aid kit, and asked Lin Feng to put his feet on a small stool.
I knelt down and carefully unwrapped the gauze that had been bandaged yesterday. I checked the wound, rinsed it thoroughly with iodine, reapplied the medication, and then wrapped it up layer by layer with clean gauze.
Her fingers were slender and nimble, and the way she wrapped the gauze was very gentle, as if she were handling something fragile.
After finishing all that, she straightened up, breathed a sigh of relief, put away the medicine box, took out a small medicine bottle from the cabinet, poured a glass of warm water, and beckoned to Xiaoyu: "Xiaoyu, come on, take your medicine."
Xiaoyu was sitting on the sofa, still holding the small wooden blocks he had used to build with. Hearing his mother call him, he slowly moved over and took the medicine bottle and water cup.
He tilted his head back and swallowed the medicine with his brows furrowed tightly, but he didn't utter a sound. After finishing the drink, he put the cup back on the table, glanced at Lin Feng again, and then quickly looked away.
Lin Feng noticed this detail and casually asked, "Is Xiao Yu feeling unwell?"
Wang Fang's fingers tightened slightly as she held the medicine bottle, and she stood there silently for several seconds.
She put the medicine bottle back in the cabinet, and when she turned around, that gentle smile was still on her face.
His voice was soft and flat, as if he were talking about something he was used to: "He has had a rare neurological disorder since he was a child, which has caused delayed language development. He has difficulty speaking. He can understand what others are saying, but he can't express himself, so he hasn't spoken much. He has been on medication all these years, but the effect is not very obvious. He is fine when he plays with other children, but when you ask him to speak, it's like his tongue is tied in knots; he wants to say something but can't."
She sighed, her voice tinged with barely perceptible weariness and heartache. "He's reached school age, but I didn't dare let him go. He's easily bullied at school. Other children don't know his situation and will say he's mute. He'll come home and cry secretly, and he won't let me go to the teacher. So I had to teach him at home myself. He can read and do math without any problems, but he doesn't interact with people much, and his personality is becoming more and more introverted."
After listening, Lin Feng turned to look at Xiao Yu.
I didn't notice it yesterday, but I thought the little boy was quite nice. He was squatting on the ground, intently building something with blocks, his profile quiet and serious.
He beckoned to him: "Xiaoyu, come here and let me take a look."
Xiaoyu hesitated for a moment, put down the building blocks, stood up, and walked to Lin Feng.
