The Secret of the Yoga Club: The Women's Identity is Not Simple
Chapter 398 From the Heart
Upon seeing Lin Feng, she was visibly taken aback for a moment, then greeted him somewhat shyly: "Lin! What a coincidence! I just recommended this spot to you yesterday, and you're already climbing it today. You really are spontaneous." She probably also thought it was too much of a coincidence, but she didn't show any suspicion on her face. She just awkwardly pulled her hand out of her leather jacket pocket, unsure of where to put it.
"It's a rare opportunity to come to Kyoto, so let's take advantage of the good weather and go out for a stroll. Are you here to pray for blessings too?" Raymond Lam naturally threw the topic back at them.
"Yes. I'm here to burn incense for my mother." Shen Wanyu said this in a softer voice, her gaze unconsciously drifting towards the direction of the prayer hall.
Xu Momo interjected at the opportune moment: "I came with her today. The weather is nice, so we're going hiking for some exercise."
After Shen Wanyu entered the Prayer Hall, Xu Momo took the opportunity to walk to Lin Feng's side and whispered, "I'll find some time to leave later."
Lin Feng nodded and said, "Thank you for your hard work. You'll be rewarded when we get back."
Xu Mo smiled, pursed her lips, and gently traced a line on the back of his hand with her finger before quickly withdrawing her hand and reverting to her aloof and mature expression.
When Shen Wanyu came out of the Prayer Hall, there were still traces of water left in the corners of her eyes. She rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand and said that her smoky makeup was ruined, but in fact she had been crying.
The three of them walked together along the mountain path.
After walking a short distance, Xu Momo suddenly bent down and rubbed her calves, frowning as she said, "Ouch, my legs are cramping a bit. I guess I walked too fast just now. You guys go ahead, I'll rest for a bit and then catch up. Don't wait for me." As she spoke, she winked at Lin Feng, the movement very subtle.
Shen Wanyu stopped and asked with concern, "Would you like me to help you sit down over there? I have some spray in my bag; a spray can help relieve the symptoms."
"No need, no need, it's just a cramp, I'll be fine after a few minutes of rest. You guys go ahead, I'll catch up in a bit. There's only one path on this mountain, you won't get lost." Xu waved his hand, limped over to the stone bench next to him, sat down, and waved to them to hurry up.
Lin Feng gave Xu Momo an approving look, then continued walking with Shen Wanyu. The further they went into the mountain path, the quieter it became. Tourists were constantly coming and going on the main road, but Lin Feng deliberately chose a few secluded paths. On both sides were dense pine forests, and sunlight filtered through the gaps in the tree canopy, casting shimmering patches of light on the ground.
The air was filled with the fresh scent of pine needles and earth, and occasionally birdsong would drift from the depths of the forest, breaking the tranquil serenity of the mountains and forests.
Shen Wanyu walked beside Lin Feng, about an arm's length apart. Her hands were in the pockets of her leather jacket, her head down looking at the stone steps beneath her feet. Occasionally, she would look up at the distant mountain scenery, her lips moving but then pursing back, clearly unsure of what to say.
When they reached a pavilion halfway up the mountain, Lin Feng stopped and said, "Let's sit here and rest for a while, and wait for Xu Momo to catch up." The pavilion was built on a protruding rock, with cliffs on three sides, offering a great view of the waterfall on the opposite mountainside and the distant, layered mountain range.
A mountain breeze blows by, carrying the fragrance of pine needles and the spray from the waterfall, making one feel relaxed and refreshed.
Shen Wanyu sat down on the stone bench and wiped the sweat from her forehead with her sleeve. Lin Feng went to the vending machine next to them, bought two bottles of sports drinks, handed one to her, and sat down on the stone bench next to her.
"Who did you pray for in the prayer hall just now?" Lin Feng unscrewed the bottle cap and took a sip.
"For my mother." Shen Wanyu looked down at the beverage bottle in her hand, her fingers unconsciously picking at the label on the cap. Her voice was very soft. "Tomorrow is the tenth anniversary of her death, and I wanted to come and burn some incense for her myself, hoping she can be at peace over there. When I was little, she often took me hiking, but not to Sanqing Mountain, but to a small mountain near our hometown. I was just old enough to remember things when she passed away, and my memories of her are just a few blurry images. Cooking in the kitchen, wearing that apron with small floral prints, turning around and smiling at me after she finished cooking; hanging clothes on the balcony, clipping my little floral dresses one by one onto the clothesline; and taking me to the park to ride a tricycle, I rode too fast and fell, and she squatted down to blow on the wound on my knee. I've forgotten everything else, I can't remember anything no matter how hard I try." Her voice grew softer and softer as she spoke, her fingers picking at the label on the beverage bottle, creating wrinkles.
"The fact that you came to burn incense for her shows that you still care about her. Your mother in heaven would be heartbroken to see you come all the way up this mountain to burn incense for her. She would also hope that you are doing well. By the way, why haven't I heard you mention your father?" Lin Feng looked at her profile and spoke gently.
Shen Wanyu remained silent for a long time, seemingly unwilling to speak.
A mountain breeze blew by, causing the stray hairs on her forehead to flutter gently.
Lin Feng suddenly turned around to face her, his tone serious, "Actually, there's something I've been wanting to tell you. We just happened to run into each other today, and I felt I couldn't keep it from you any longer."
He paused, then, seeing Shen Wanyu look up at him, continued, "My trip to Kyoto wasn't entirely for tourism. I'm here on someone's behalf to find someone. This person asked me to find his daughter. Because of some things, their relationship has been strained, and they haven't had a proper conversation in many years. He feels very guilty, thinking that he's neglected his family over the years because of work, and he wants to make up for it, but his daughter refuses to see him. He doesn't ask for her forgiveness, he just wants her to come home and visit her mother's grave together."
Shen Wanyu's finger stopped on the amulet.
She pursed her lips and remained silent, but how could she not have guessed the meaning behind Lin Feng's words?
"On my first day in Kyoto, I called that girl. But before I could even finish speaking, she yelled at me and blocked my number. I hadn't eaten breakfast that morning and was starving, so I went to the cafeteria. I happened to see a girl slip on the stairs, and I helped her up. Later, I found out that the girl was the one I was looking for." Lin Feng couldn't help but feel that fate was playing tricks on him, and then looked at Shen Wanyu.
"I never expected things to turn out this way. I'm really sorry about that day," Shen Wanyu said, placing the half-empty bottle of drink on the stone bench, her hands clasped together on her knees, head bowed in silence for a long time. A mountain breeze blew, causing her dreadlocks to sway gently. "Did he really say those things to you?"
"He's said it more than once. He said the people he's most sorry for in his life are you and your mother. He wants to make amends, but he doesn't know how to bring it up."
"Do you think I'm incredibly unreasonable? Do you think I'm just a rebellious kid who doesn't understand anything and throws tantrums?"
"I don't think so. You've just suffered a lot of injustice, lacked maternal and paternal love, and often don't know how to express yourself when faced with problems. In my opinion, you lack someone who understands you, which is why you choose this method!"
