Lin Feng returned to his office, sat in a chair for a few minutes, and then took out his phone to search for the flower and bird market in Hohai.

There are two nearby markets. One is in the south of the city, which is not large and mainly sells ornamental fish and potted plants. The other is in the east of the city, which is the largest flower and bird market in Hehai, with clear distinctions between aquarium, flower and pet supplies areas.

Looking through the real photos in the reviews, I noticed that the aquarium section in the east of the city has several shops specializing in koi and water lilies, with a wider variety than the one in the south of the city.

I closed the page and sent a message to Shen Wanyu.

"I'm going to buy fish this afternoon. Let me know when you're done at the flower and bird market in the east of the city."

Less than ten seconds after the message was sent, Shen Wanyu replied: "I'm at Hohai University. I just finished talking with my advisor and I can come out now."

"Wait at the east gate, I'll come pick you up."

Lin Feng picked up his car keys and went downstairs.

It wasn't far from the company to the east gate of Hohai University. It wasn't rush hour, and the journey took less than twenty minutes. I parked the car in a temporary parking space outside the east gate and could see Shen Wanyu standing under the sycamore tree at the school gate from afar.

She's dressed differently today than usual.

On the way from the East Gate to the East City Flower and Bird Market, she talked almost nonstop, telling Lin Feng what she had talked about with her supervisor that afternoon. She had chosen a topic in environmental engineering, researching urban wetland ecological restoration. Her supervisor had assigned her two graduate assistants, and her workstation in the laboratory had also been assigned.

A moment later, she leaned over and pecked him on the face, then sat back down as if nothing had happened and continued talking. The flower and bird market is located in an old urban area in the east of the city. It occupies a pedestrian street and two large sheds. From the outside, it looks gray and inconspicuous, but once you go inside, it's a completely different world.

The aquarium area is located at the very back of Greenhouse No. 1, where more than a dozen shops are lined up in a row. Each shop has rows of glass tanks in front of it, with air pumps bubbling and colorful ornamental fish swimming around in the tanks.

As soon as Shen Wanyu entered the market, she took Lin Feng's arm and clung to him, taking every few steps to tiptoe and kiss him on the chin, being incredibly affectionate.

The woman selling succulents next to them glanced at them, smiled, and shook her head.

The two of them first picked out fish in the aquarium area.

Lin Feng squatted down in front of a shop specializing in koi for a long time, and selected two red and white ones, one Taisho Sanshoku one, and one Showa one. They were all about 15 centimeters in size, in good condition, and reasonably priced.

Shen Wanyu squatted down next to him and said to the fish in the glass tank, "This one is pretty," "That one is pretty too," "Why don't we buy the whole tank?" In the end, Lin Feng pulled her away.

I also selected a few small goldfish and two plecos, along with a few water lilies, a clump of banyan trees, and a few landscaping stones.

While passing through the flower section, Shen Wanyu was once again drawn to a pot of Phalaenopsis orchids, and stood in front of the stall, unable to move. Lin Feng bought her a purple one, and also picked out two pots of pothos and several succulents.

The two of them spent more than an hour wandering around the market, carrying large and small bags, until the trunk and back seat were full, before driving back.

Back at the villa, Lin Feng moved the fish and plants to the edge of the fishpond.

Squatting by the pond, I first planted the aquatic plants and water lilies in the prepared ceramic pots, sank them to the bottom of the pond to fix their positions, then arranged the landscaping stones in layers, and finally put the koi carp into the pond one by one.

After entering the water, the fish paused for half a second, then flicked their tails and disappeared into the water plants, occasionally poking their heads out to blow a bubble.

Shen Wanyu squatted by the pool for a while, then suddenly stood up and took out her phone from her pocket.

"I'll call my dad."

Lin Feng glanced up at her, then looked down and continued fiddling with the water plants, saying, "It's fine. Take better care of your dad."

I dialed the number, and it rang twice before being answered.
