Lin Feng woke up just after seven o'clock the next morning.

The light filtering through the curtains was still a bit gray. I got out of bed, took a shower, took two slices of bread and a carton of milk from the refrigerator, ate them standing on the kitchen counter, grabbed my car keys, and went out.

She wore a white pleated mini-skirt, the hem just above her knees, revealing her straight, white legs, and canvas shoes. Her hair was tied in a high ponytail, revealing her smooth forehead and a pair of silver kitten earrings on her earlobes, and she carried a white canvas bag over her shoulder.

Lin Feng parked the car in front of her, opened the door, got into the passenger seat, turned around and smiled at her, "Let's go." The action of getting into the car brought out a faint scent of laundry detergent, and her ponytail swayed behind her head.

"Seatbelt," Lin Feng reminded him.

"Oh right." Shen Qianqian pulled over and buckled the seatbelt, looked down to check if it was fastened properly, and then looked up. "I got up at 6:30 this morning and spent ages getting ready, just in case you arrived before I came downstairs."

Lin Feng turned his head and glanced at her, his gaze lingering on her for a second. "Dressed so sexily!"

Shen Qianqian looked down at her clothes and tugged at the hem of her skirt with her fingers. "I bought this dress last week, but I haven't had a chance to wear it yet. Do you think it looks good?" After asking, she added, "If you think it's too revealing, I'll go back and change into something else. Anyway, it's upstairs."

"No need to change it, it's fine as it is." Lin Feng started the car, and when he turned his head, he caught a glimpse of a figure standing in the window upstairs.

Ye Qinghan was standing there looking downstairs, one hand holding the curtain closed, and she nodded slightly to him through the glass. Lin Feng nodded back, looked away, turned on his turn signal, and drove the car out of the residential complex gate.

On the way, Shen Qianqian leaned back in her seat and connected her phone to the car stereo to play music. It was an upbeat pop song, and she hummed along, tapping her fingers to the beat on her knees.

The traffic during the morning rush hour was denser than expected. She stopped twice at the traffic lights, and the shadows of the trees outside the car window flashed across her face in waves.

"By the way," Lin Feng said, slamming on the brakes at a red light and turning to ask her, "What's your cousin like? Is she easy to get along with?"

Shen Qianqian thought for a moment, then tapped her fingers twice on her knee. "She used to be quite lively, but her parents divorced, and she lived with her father. She was probably affected a bit during that time, and she wasn't as talkative as before. But she's much better these past few years, and we've always been quite close." She turned to look at Lin Feng. "Don't worry, she's very easy to get along with. And she knows you're my boyfriend, so she won't give you a hard time."

"That's fine then."

"Don't worry, Wanyu isn't some kind of monster." Shen Qianqian took out a box of chewing gum from her canvas bag, poured out two pieces, and handed them to him. "Want some?"

Lin Feng took it and threw it into his mouth; the minty flavor melted on his tongue.

The navigation system prompted him to turn left ahead, so he turned on his turn signal and the car turned onto the road leading to the villa area.

Shen Wanyu was already standing at the courtyard gate waiting.

Today she wore a white V-neck dress, the neckline lower than usual, the hem reaching mid-thigh, revealing her smooth legs. Her hair was loose, the ends slightly curled, and she wore light makeup, with a layer of light pink lip gloss on her lips. Standing beside the iron fence at the entrance to the courtyard, she appeared more meticulously groomed than usual.

Lin Feng parked the car, and Shen Qianqian rolled down the window and waved to her, "Sister Wanyu, get in!"

Shen Wanyu opened the back door and got in. She leaned over and hugged Shen Qianqian. "Qianqian, it's been so long since I've seen you. Let me see—have you lost weight again? Your face looks sharper than the last time I saw you."

"No way, I've gained three pounds." Shen Qianqian pinched her cheek. "My mom said if I keep eating snacks, I'll turn into a ball."

"You believe what your mother says? You're just perfect like this now." Shen Wanyu leaned back, her gaze sweeping over Shen Qianqian's shoulder and landing on Lin Feng. Pretending not to recognize him, she asked, "This is the Lin Feng you told me about, right?"

"Yes, it's him." Shen Qianqian turned to the side, placing one hand on the back of Lin Feng's seat. "I told you about him on the phone before. What do you think? Isn't he handsome?"

"Yeah, he is quite handsome." Shen Wanyu met Lin Feng's gaze in the rearview mirror, paused for less than a second, and said, "Hello Lin Feng, I am Qianqian's cousin, Shen Wanyu. Qianqian has told me about you many times, and I'm finally meeting you in person today."

"Hello, Sister Wanyu." Lin Feng glanced at her in the rearview mirror, speaking politely. "Qianqian often mentions you too."

"Really?" Shen Wanyu raised an eyebrow, leaned forward slightly, and rested her arms between the backs of the two seats in front of her. "What did she say about me? Did she say I'm particularly prone to nagging?"

Shen Qianqian quickly waved her hand, "I didn't. I said you've been very good to me, taking care of me since I was little."

"That's true." Shen Wanyu leaned back in her seat and put her canvas bag on her lap. "When she was little, I was the one who put Band-Aids on her whenever she fell. Her mom was busy with work back then, so she would do her homework at my house after school, and we would watch cartoons together after she finished her homework."

The car started moving again, and Shen Qianqian leaned over from the passenger seat, resting her arm on the back of the seat, and spoke to Shen Wanyu in the back seat.

The two chatted about the past. Shen Qianqian mentioned that when she was in junior high school, she failed an exam and was too scared to go home. Shen Wanyu hid her in her room for an afternoon and even made up an excuse to fool her mother.

"We almost got caught that time," Shen Wanyu laughed. "When your mom called to ask, I told her you were in the bathroom, and then I rushed into the room and told you to quickly think of what to say. You were so scared your face turned white."

"How could I not be scared? You know my mom's temper." Shen Qianqian turned to look at Lin Feng after saying that. "Don't let my current appearance fool you, I was a coward when I was a kid. I would cry all night if I failed a test."

"I haven't seen you become any bolder now," Lin Feng said.

"I'm much braver now, okay!"

Shen Wanyu leaned over from the back seat, resting her arm on the back of the passenger seat and her chin on her forearm, and whispered in Lin Feng's ear, "Lin Feng, do you think Qianqian is brave now?"

Her breath brushed against Lin Feng's ear as she spoke, and the curve of her collar drooped slightly as she bent over. Lin Feng glanced at her in the rearview mirror, his gaze not lingering on her. "Not bad!"

Shen Wanyu stuck out her tongue, shrank back into her seat, and casually rejoined her conversation with Shen Qianqian.

Not long after, she took out a potato chip from her bag and held it to Lin Feng's mouth through the gap between the seats. "Lin Feng, try this. It's a new flavor, honey butter, and it's really delicious."

Lin Feng opened his mouth and accepted it.

She lightly brushed his lower lip with her fingertip, lingering for less than a second before withdrawing it, the movement as natural as an accidental touch. She then turned back to continue chatting with Shen Qianqian about the latest movie, her tone unchanged.

Shen Qianqian was completely unaware of the little action she had just made. She was looking down at her canvas bag, rummaging for wet wipes. "Sister Wanyu, did you eat potato chips just now? Give me a wet wipe so I can wipe my hands."

"Here you go." Shen Wanyu pulled a wet wipe from her bag and handed it over.

It took almost an hour and a half to get to Happy Valley.

The parking lot was already quite full, and parents with children were queuing at the entrance, with safety instructions playing on a loop over the loudspeaker.

A deep male voice announced, "Do not disengage the safety device during operation." Sunlight shone on the huge cartoon sculpture at the entrance, its bright colors almost dazzling.
