"Why is Mother crying?"

Renbao was eager to get off Su Xuance.

Su Xuance put her down, wiped away Pei Yuru's tears, and asked softly, "What happened?"

"My mother suddenly fainted. The imperial physician went and said there was no way to save her. He told us to prepare for her funeral." Pei Yuru could no longer hold back her tears and quickly turned her back to Renbao, afraid of frightening him.

Renbao circled around her, and she understood that preparing for her funeral meant she was about to die.

For Renbao, death was not frightening, but she also remembered what Pei Yuru had said.

After a person dies, they go to the underworld, and those left on earth can never see each other again, which is indeed unpleasant.

Just like now, seeing Pei Yuru cry, she also wanted to cry.

"Mother." Renbao tugged at Pei Yuru's trouser leg, looked up at her, his eyes brimming with tears, "Mother, hug Renbao."

Pei Yuru quickly wiped her eyes, squatted down and picked up Renbao, feeling a pang of guilt. She shouldn't have lost her composure in front of the child.

"Renbao, don't cry." Pei Yuru gently patted Renbao's back, soothing him softly.

Renbao pouted, her eyes reddening, and she hugged Pei Yuru's neck tightly: "Is Mother's mother sick?"

She nodded: "It's Renbao's maternal grandmother. She's been bedridden, so she couldn't come to see you before."

"Then Mother, please take me to see Grandma!" Renbao urged. "Renbao will know whether Grandma can be saved just by taking one look."

Pei Yuru met Renbao's clear, bright eyes and nodded as if possessed. When they arrived at the Pei residence, she hesitated for a moment.

She never brought Renbao back to her parents' home because she was afraid that the innocent Renbao would save her mother but diminish her own good fortune.

"Mother, we've arrived!" Renbao grabbed Pei Yuru's hand, eager to jump off the carriage.

Pei Yuru hugged her, leaned down to look Renbao in the eye, and said with difficulty, "Renbao, if saving your grandmother will come at a price, please don't save her, okay?"

Renbao nodded as if he understood, then thought for a moment and said, "Mother, if Grandmother's time comes, I can't save her. Uncle Black and Uncle White will come to take her away. Once she's in the underworld, there won't be any more pain!"

She gently touched Pei Yuru's brow and rubbed it.

Hearing Renbao's response, Pei Yuru felt a little relieved, restrained her emotions, and kissed Renbao's forehead.

Tao Xiang first helped Ren Bao off the carriage, and Pei Yuru followed. The mother and daughter then entered the Pei residence.

The backyard was filled with a strong smell of medicine.

The Pei family produces military generals.

Pei Yuru has two older brothers, both of whom are stationed on the frontier. Her father, Pei Mu, is old and retired to live at home, taking care of his wife, Fang.

Fang lay on the couch with her eyes closed, looking extremely weak.

Pei Mu stayed by her side, and the two young women sitting in front of the bed were her daughter-in-law Zhao and Liu.

"Open your mouth and drink some medicine." Pei Mu scooped up a spoonful of medicine and brought it to her lips. Fang Shi didn't react at all. His heart skipped a beat, and tears streamed down his face as he gently coaxed her, "You'll feel better if you drink it."

Fang and he had been together for most of their lives, and they had a very good relationship.

She was bedridden and attended to by maids, and Pei Mu insisted on staying by her side.

"Yaoyao, it's time to take your medicine." Pei Mu called out Fang's nickname, his voice choked with emotion.

"Father," Zhao said softly, exchanging a glance with Liu, "Let Mother rest well."

Fang was gentle and kind, and never acted like a mother-in-law. Now, seeing her mother hanging by a thread, she felt extremely sad.

"Father, I'm back." Pei Yuru led Renbao into the backyard. Hearing suppressed sobs coming from inside the house, her expression tightened, and she quickened her pace to push open the door and enter.

"Yu Ru is back! Come see your mother, your two brothers couldn't make it back in time." Pei Mu wiped away his tears, his voice hoarse. Seeing Ren Bao, whom his daughter was holding, he forced a smile. "This must be Ren Bao. He's grown up so well."

"This is your maternal grandfather. The box of gold in your room was a gift from him. And here are your eldest and second aunts." Pei Yuru introduced them to Renbao one by one, then anxiously sat down to observe Fang's current state.

Zhao and Liu instinctively took off their bracelets and put them into Renbao's hands.

I should have gone to see Renbao earlier, but unfortunately there were many things to do at home.

Our formal meeting today was rather rushed, and we didn't have time to prepare any gifts.

"Grandfather, eldest aunt, second aunt," Renbao called out sweetly.

Pei Mu's gloomy mood dissipated somewhat due to Renbao's arrival. He picked her up and placed her on his lap, saying to Madam Fang, "Yaoyao, this is our granddaughter Renbao. She's very cute. Open your eyes and look at her."

Renbao looked closely at Fang's face. She was not shrouded in deathly aura, nor was she destined to die. She used her little hand to wipe away the tears streaming from Pei Mu's eyes: "Grandpa, don't cry. Grandma will be alright."

Pei Mu took it as a comforting gesture from the milk ball and forced a bitter smile.

"Miss, the imperial physicians have also examined him, and they all say there's nothing they can do to save him." Doctor Zhang entered the room and whispered to Pei Yuru, "The only chance of survival is probably to find the miracle doctor who cured the young master's leg ailment and beg him to help."

Pei Yuru's gaze fell on Renbao. She took a deep breath and said to Pei Mu, "Father, I have something to say to Mother alone."

Pei Mu nodded, telling Zhao and Liu to go back to their rooms. He was about to leave when Pei Yuru called him back.

"Renbao, can he be saved?" Pei Yuru spoke only after everyone had left. Seeing Pei Mu's shocked expression, she explained, "Renbao is the renowned little miracle doctor in the capital."

Pei Mu's previously gloomy eyes lit up with a glimmer of hope. He was both excited and afraid of frightening Renbao, so he carefully squatted down and asked her, "Renbao, your grandmother's illness..."

Before he could finish speaking, Renbao nodded, "Sure! Renbao is a little devil! No one in the world can take a life from me, Grandfather, don't worry!"

After Renbao finished speaking, he took off his shoes, quickly got into bed, rummaged in his pocket for a while, and pulled out a small porcelain bottle, from which he poured out a black pill.

Before Pei Yuru and Pei Mu could react, Renbao had already stuffed the medicine into Fang Shi's mouth and pulled out a peach wood sword, waving it around on Fang Shi's body.

Pei Mu hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped.

"Dad, Renbao likes to act like a little devil all the time, please don't mind."

Pei Yuru explained awkwardly that she had witnessed Renbao's medical skills; they were a bit strange, but the results were truly amazing.

Just as Pei Mu was about to speak, he saw Fang Shi, who had been unconscious on the bed all day, open her eyes.

Fang's departed soul was summoned back by Renbao and slowly merged with her body. She opened her eyes and saw Renbao, who was about three feet tall, wearing a black dress with gold trim and dark eyes. She was still a little dazed and could not distinguish reality.

When her soul left her body, she wandered aimlessly in the human world and encountered several kind-hearted ghosts who told her that the Little Yama King was a three-year-old baby and that she must be treated with utmost respect in the underworld.

This must be it.

"Fang has met Little Yama."

Pei Mu and Pei Yuru watched as Fang Shi, who had been bedridden and paralyzed for half a year, got up from her bed and bowed deeply to three-year-old Renbao!
