Amateur talent show? Top mentors are my students.
Chapter 29: The Secret Revealed 1.0
"...He Xu?" The director was the first to react, his brows furrowing. "What are you doing here?"
"Choreography," He Xu said.
The meeting room fell silent for a second.
"He Xu, this is an emergency meeting of the mentor team, not a place for you." His voice was low, his tone clearly displeased. "PD, what—what are you doing bringing the contestants here?"
Shen Yiheng didn't say anything, but simply turned to the side and let He Xu into the conference room.
He Xu didn't wait for anyone to invite him; he went straight to the empty chair at the conference table, pulled it out, and sat down.
His movements were fluid and natural, without the slightest hint of awkwardness.
Jung Jae-won looked at him, opened his mouth, and then closed it again.
Jin Xian picked up her coffee cup, her gaze shifting back and forth between He Xu and Shen Yiheng twice, without saying a word.
Zhou Wei leaned back in his chair, expressionless, and tapped his fingers unconsciously twice on the table.
"PD," the director's voice rose slightly, "I need an explanation."
All eyes were on Shen Yiheng.
Shen Yiheng didn't look at the director, but walked to the head of the conference table, placed a document in his hand on the table, and opened it.
"The solution is simple." His voice was steady, and his pace was neither fast nor slow. "Use my song, 'Blade'."
The director frowned even more deeply: "Your song?"
"Yes." Shen Yiheng pushed the documents to the center of the table. "The copyright is in my own hands, so there's no licensing issue. Choreography—"
He paused for a moment, then turned his gaze to He Xu.
"Edited by He Xulai."
The moment those words were spoken, the air in the conference room seemed to freeze.
Zheng Zaiyuan dropped his cigarette, his expression a mix of shock and confusion: "He made it up?"
"Yes," Shen Yiheng said.
The director finally couldn't hold back any longer and slammed his pen on the table with a soft thud.
"PD, I don't know what you're thinking." His voice was low, but the dissatisfaction in his tone was almost overflowing. "This is an emergency meeting for the first performance, not a time for jokes. You bring in a contestant and say you want to use your song and have him choreograph it—"
"He's no ordinary player," Shen Yiheng interrupted him.
The director's words stuck in his throat.
Shen Yiheng took a deep breath.
He turned his head and glanced at He Xu.
He Xu raised an eyebrow slightly, his expression conveying a clear message: Are you sure?
Shen Yiheng ignored him.
"He Xu." Shen Yiheng's voice wasn't loud, but it was clearly heard in the quiet conference room. "He's not an amateur."
The director's expression changed from dissatisfaction to confusion, and then from confusion to absurdity.
"Not an amateur?" He repeated, his voice clearly distrustful. "PD, you personally reviewed his information—an independent trainee, no company, no resume. You're telling me he's not an amateur?"
"The information is correct." Shen Yiheng's voice remained steady, but his speech was a little faster than usual. "But that's because he didn't fill in his actual resume at all."
"What do you mean?"
Shen Yiheng took a deep breath and faced everyone in the conference room.
The director, producer, publicity director, Jung Jae-won, Kim Hyun, Joo Wei—all eyes were on him.
On the other end of the phone, Xu Shutong's breathing suddenly became lighter, as if she was holding her breath and waiting.
"He Xu." Shen Yiheng's voice wasn't loud, but he pronounced each word very clearly. "Twenty-four years old. He started teaching dance at eighteen and has been in the profession for six years."
"He's a specially appointed dance instructor at Banxing Entertainment. In other words—"
He paused.
"He is my dance teacher."
"He was involved in 80% of the choreography for all my stage performances, from my debut song to my tours."
"...Are you kidding me?" The director's voice was a little dry.
"I'm not joking."
Jung Jae-won finally reacted, his voice tinged with disbelief and amusement: "Your dance teacher? Him?"
"Um."
"A specially appointed dance instructor for Banxing Entertainment." Jin Xian repeated Shen Yiheng's words, her tone neither too loud nor too soft. "This position isn't one anyone can sit in. You got it when you were only eighteen?"
"I officially signed the contract when I was twenty," He Xu corrected. "Before that, I was a freelancer."
Jin Xian nodded and didn't ask any more questions.
On the other end of the phone, Xu Shutong's breathing was very soft.
She didn't say a word from beginning to end, but everyone knew she was listening.
At this moment, she finally couldn't hold back any longer: "Um... can I say something?"
The director glanced at the phone and said, "Speak."
"Teacher He Xu... he is truly the best dance teacher I have ever met."
"I attended his class once, just once, but I still remember it to this day."
The director's lips twitched.
He wanted to say, "This is illogical," and "You're kidding me, an eighteen-year-old becoming a dance teacher for a big company," but he swallowed the words back.
Because he suddenly remembered that He Xu had said on his first stage performance that he was a choreographer and "occasionally taught children to dance."
At the time, everyone thought he was being modest.
In retrospect, he genuinely felt that he was "just teaching kids."
"Okay, let's put aside your identity issue for now." He rubbed his temples, his voice weary. "You said you'd choreograph the dance—can you choreograph the whole thing by tomorrow?"
"Yes," He Xu said.
"how long?"
"If I were using my own team, tonight."
The director's finger paused for a moment.
"Tonight?" Jung Jae-won asked first. "A complete boy group dance, from choreography to demo, usually takes a team at least three to five days."
"That's usually the case," He Xu said. "I'm not usually the case."
Jung Jae-won wanted to argue, but when he met He Xu's overly calm eyes, he suddenly couldn't say "no."
Because he had seen He Xu dance.
A dancer of that level who says, "I can choreograph it tonight," most likely really can.
The director took a deep breath, as if he had made a great decision, before swallowing back the words "Are you sure?"
"Okay," he said, his voice carrying a desperate, almost reckless tone. "Then tell me, what do you need?"
He Xu leaned back in his chair and tapped his fingers lightly twice on the table.
"First, give me back my phone." His voice was hoarse and low. "The production team took it away, and I need to contact my contact."
The director glanced at the producer, who nodded, picked up the walkie-talkie on the table, and whispered a few words.
"Secondly, I need a dance studio with uninterrupted electricity and water 24 hours a day. It would be best if Teacher Zheng Zaiyuan could also be there."
Jung Jae-won was taken aback: "Me?"
"You help me with the positioning and camera angles," He Xu said matter-of-factly. "And also, you need to control the difficulty of the choreography to keep it consistent with the other seven songs."
Jung Jae-won opened his mouth, wanting to say something like "I'm your mentor, not your assistant," but when he met He Xu's "You have a problem with that?" face, the words that came out were: "...Fine."
"Third," He Xu turned to Shen Yiheng, "I need both the original instrumental version and the individual track files for your song."
Shen Yiheng nodded: "I'll have someone send it to you."
"That's all." He Xu stood up, pushed his chair back under the table, and said, "I'll start as soon as the phone arrives."
After saying that, he walked out of the conference room.
In the corridor, a staff member jogged up to me, holding a mobile phone in his hand—the screen still had a label that read "He Xu".
"He Xu, your phone."
He Xu took it and pressed the power button.
He walked while flipping through his contacts, his fingers swiping rapidly across the screen, finally stopping at a name labeled "Da Zhou".
The call connected, and a gruff male voice came from the other end: "Oh? Teacher He? Aren't you participating in some kind of talent show? How come you can make a phone call?"
"Stop talking nonsense." He Xu walked into the dance studio, closed the door, and plopped down on the floor. "I have an urgent job. Help me get a few people."
"What kind of work?"
"Choreography. Boy group, a six-person choreography." He Xu spoke quickly, "I need you, Xiao Fei, A Kun, and Lao Yuan. We'll work through the night tonight, and the demo is ready by noon tomorrow."
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone.
"One day? You want a demo? Are you sure?"
"Sure."
"Okay... what song?"
"Shen Yiheng's 'Blade'".
Da Zhou was visibly taken aback: "Didn't that song already have a choreography? The version from last year's tour—I remember you choreographed it?"
"That version was too difficult; the trainees couldn't dance it. We need to create a simplified version."
"Okay, I'll ask them what time it is. What time?"
"Now. The dance studio is at the production team's base. I'll send you the location."
"Alright."
After hanging up, He Xu dialed the second, third, and fourth phone numbers.
Xiao Fei cursed at him over the phone, "Are you crazy choreographing a dance in the middle of the night?" but still agreed.
Ah Kun was even more straightforward: "Teacher He, whatever time you say, that's it."
Old Yuan was the most honest: "I'll bring my own midnight snack."
My phone vibrated again.
Shen Yiheng's message: "The backing track and individual tracks have been sent to your email. Also, that dance is a six-person dance; have you gathered enough people on your end?"
He Xu stared at the screen for two seconds, and the corners of his mouth slowly curved into a smile.
He typed back: "Didn't you say you didn't have any commitments?"
Shen Yiheng replied instantly: "???"
"It's a good opportunity to see if you've regressed recently."
There was a silence on the other end for about five seconds.
Then Shen Yiheng sent a voice message, which He Xu answered: "You want me to jump?"
He Xu also replied with a voice message: "What, can't top stars dance in a group? Back when you were dancing in a group under my tutelage, you didn't talk this much nonsense."
Another five seconds of silence.
Then Shen Yiheng sent a single word: "Okay".
This was followed by a question: "What time does it start?"
"Now."
