The car door slammed shut.

The taxi started smoothly and disappeared into the neon lights of Shanghai late at night.

The carriage was eerily quiet, with only the roar of the engine echoing in the enclosed space.

The light and shadow of the streetlights shone through the car windows, alternately sweeping across the faces of the three people in the back seat.

Gu Yuxuan sat in the passenger seat.

Instead of looking out the window, she slightly turned her head, her gaze fixed intently on the rearview mirror, as if guided by a GPS.

Ye Chen's face was reflected in the mirror as he leaned back in his chair.

His eyes were closed, his arms were crossed over his chest, his breathing was steady, and his posture was extremely relaxed.

Gu Yuxuan's gaze lingered on the mirror for a long time.

Sun Haoyu, sitting in the middle of the back row, was practically burning out of his CPU.

He glanced at Ye Chen, who was resting with his eyes closed on his left, and then at the rearview mirror in front of him.

His gaze swept back and forth between the two of them three times; even a fool could see that something was wrong!

That intense, almost sticky look in his eyes is practically glued to Old Ye's face!

Sun Haoyu's pupils dilated, and his mouth opened slightly.

He quietly turned his head, his left elbow tentatively bending outwards, as if trying to nudge Ye Chen to tip him off.

As a result, Ye Chen didn't even lift his eyelids. He simply shifted his body half an inch to the side of the car door and dodged the attack.

Sun Haoyu gasped and quickly covered his mouth with both hands, afraid that he would scream.

He leaned tightly against Chen Zhiqiang, his eyes wide open like copper bells in the darkness.

The taxi came to a smooth stop outside the south gate of Jiaotong University.

The car ahead had arrived, and Wang Yao, Xu Jiao, and Li Meng were standing under the streetlights, chatting and laughing.

Ye Chen pushed open the car door and got out of the car with a swift motion.

Sun Haoyu and Chen Zhiqiang quickly followed suit and crawled out of the carriage.

The passenger door opened, and Gu Yuxuan stepped out in her canvas shoes, her pure white skirt fluttering gently in the night breeze.

Instead of walking towards Wang Yao, she turned around and walked straight to Ye Chen.

The two were less than half a meter apart, and the atmosphere instantly became awkward.

"See you tomorrow," Gu Yuxuan said softly.

The sound wasn't loud, but in the quiet of the night, it reached the ears of the people around.

Wang Yao's hand, which was about to grab Lu Wenbo's arm, froze in mid-air.

Xu Jiao, who was standing next to her, had just taken out her phone when the cold light from the screen shone on her face.

She glanced casually at Gu Yuxuan and Ye Chen.

They assumed Gu Yuxuan was simply thanking Ye Chen for treating them to dinner, completely unaware of the unusual atmosphere.

Ye Chen had his hands in his pockets, his expression completely calm.

"See you tomorrow." He nodded without making any unnecessary movements, maintaining a steady and reliable demeanor.

Gu Yuxuan then turned around and walked towards Wang Yao and the others.

……

The wooden door to dormitory 417 was pushed open.

Chen Zhiqiang was the last to enter, and casually pushed the door panel shut, the latch making a crisp "click" sound.

Sun Haoyu strode up to Ye Chen, placed his large, fan-like hands on Ye Chen's shoulders, and pressed down hard.

Ye Chen sat down in the chair in front of the desk.

Lu Wenbo pulled over another chair, straddled it, and sat down with the back of the chair directly blocking Ye Chen's view, assuming a posture of conducting a joint trial.

"Tell me the truth!" Sun Haoyu lowered his voice, his large face shoving directly at him. "What exactly did you and the beautiful Gu do?"

Ye Chen raised his hand in disgust, pushed the guy's arm away, picked up the plastic basin on the table, and threw a dry towel into it.

"No, we didn't do anything!" Sun Haoyu slapped his thigh, making a crisp sound.

"I saw it all clearly from the car! She was in the passenger seat, and she glanced at you in the rearview mirror at least five times the whole way! Her eyes were practically smirking!"

Lu Wenbo gripped the back of the chair with both hands and nodded frantically.

"Wang Yao just texted me saying that Gu Yuxuan is usually very aloof and won't even accept water from boys."

"It's definitely not normal for her to say goodbye to you today!"

Ye Chen stood up, picked up the washbasin, and said matter-of-factly, "She looked at me purely because I'm handsome."

After saying that, Ye Chen bypassed Lu Wenbo and went straight to the balcony.

The sliding door to the balcony was opened, the faucet was turned on, and water flowed onto the bottom of the plastic basin, making a gurgling sound.

Sun Haoyu followed him to the balcony door, scratched his head, and looked completely bewildered: "Being handsome doesn't make someone change their personality."

Ye Chen turned off the tap, squeezed out toothpaste, and started brushing his teeth.

After spitting out the foam, he picked up a glass of water and rinsed his mouth.

Sun Haoyu leaned against the door frame, his thick neck flushed red. He rubbed his hands together, his knuckles cracking.

"Old Ye, Old Lu, I have something to announce."

Lu Wenbo turned his head, holding the hairspray can.

"I've got my eye on Li Meng." Sun Haoyu grinned, revealing two rows of white teeth. "A Northeastern man should be paired with a Southern softie! Give me some advice on how to win her over!"

Lu Wenbo put down the hairspray can, strode over to Sun Haoyu, and patted his chest confidently: "I know how to do this!"

"Girls all love romance! Tomorrow is the end of military training, so go to the florist and order ninety-nine red roses."

"Place a heart-shaped candle outside the girls' dormitory at night, bring a guitar, and sing a love song."

"If you stand in the middle, all the girls in the building will be looking at you; you'll definitely win them over!"

Ye Chen turned on the tap, washed his face, and picked up the towel on the horizontal bar to dry the water droplets.

"If you do as he says, Li Meng will call the police that very night."

Ye Chen hung the towel back on the bar, turned to look at Sun Haoyu, and began his lesson with a devastatingly powerful approach.

"Southern girls are thoughtful and meticulous. If you come up with ninety-nine roses right away, that's not romance, that's a terrorist attack. It'll scare them away."

Sun Haoyu quickly stepped forward, gripping the balcony doorframe tightly with both hands: "What should I do?"

Ye Chen walked into the dormitory, pulled out a chair, sat down, and took a sip of warm water from his water glass.

"The contrast is endearing, plus detailed feeding."

"What do you mean?"

"You're a rough, tough guy from Northeast China, and you're big. That's both your disadvantage and your advantage," Ye Chen said, holding up a finger.

"You don't need to pretend to be refined, the rougher the better, but you must be meticulous in the details."

"During breaks in military training, while others are given room-temperature mineral water, you go to the second canteen in advance to buy chilled plum juice."

"Don't say anything, just shove it in her hand and leave."

Ye Chen lowered his hand, leaned back in his chair, and said in a lazy manner: "No need for a long confession. Just let her feel that you, this Northeastern bear, are only attentive to her."

"That's called meticulous attention to detail, you know?"

Sun Haoyu stared at Ye Chen with his mouth wide open, unable to close it for a long time.

Lu Wenbo froze on the spot, the hairspray can in his hand slipped and crashed onto the table with a "thud," then rolled to the ground.

Chen Zhiqiang sat on the edge of the lower bunk, a black-covered notebook that had somehow appeared in his hand, which he was frantically taking notes on. He nodded repeatedly, "Old Ye, your trick is brilliant!"

Sun Haoyu gave a thumbs-up, shook it vigorously, and exclaimed with admiration, "You're the ancestor of the Sea King!"

Ye Chen stood up and took off his coat: "Turn off the lights and go to sleep. We have military training tomorrow morning."

The incandescent lights on the dormitory ceiling went out, plunging the surroundings into darkness.

The streetlights outside the window cast long, narrow shadows on the floor tiles through the glass doors of the balcony.

Ye Chen lay on the lower bunk when his phone vibrated beside his pillow.

The screen lit up, and the cold white light illuminated his profile.

It's a Penguin message pop-up.

Shen Anran: Are you asleep?

Ye Chen picked up his phone and typed with one hand, his tone slightly teasing: "Just lay down. It's the start of the university semester, are there any upperclassmen lining up to pursue our beautiful Shen?"

Message sent.

The screen immediately displays "The other party is typing".

Ten seconds later, the message arrived.

Shen Anran: "No way! Don't talk nonsense." [Shy emoji]

"These past few days we've all been wearing military training uniforms. Everyone's crowded and covered in dust; nobody has time to look at anyone else."

"The thought of having to stand at attention all day tomorrow makes me anxious."

Ye Chen looked at the text on the screen and tapped his fingers rapidly.

"Drink more water during military training tomorrow, and when standing at attention, bend your knees slightly, don't stand straight."

"If you feel dizzy, report it immediately; don't try to tough it out."

Message sent.

The message "The other party is typing" appears again at the top of the dialog box.

This time it took a little longer; half a minute passed before the message arrived.

Shen Anran: "Got it. Is it hot in Shanghai?"

Ye Chen chuckled softly.

This little girl has a pretty strong pulling force.

He slowly typed out a line of text.

"It was hot, but seeing your message cooled me down."

Message sent.

There was no immediate response from the other end of the screen.

A minute passed.

Two minutes passed.

The screen's light gradually dimmed.

Ye Chen's thumb hovered above the screen.

Suddenly, the phone vibrated again, and the screen lit up again.

Shen Anran: "You...go to sleep early!"

The text was followed by an angry emoji of someone hitting their head.

A hint of a smile flashed in Ye Chen's eyes. He typed two words: "Goodnight."

After sending the message, he decisively pressed the power button.

The screen went out.

In the dormitory, only Sun Haoyu's increasingly heavy snoring could be heard.

Ye Chen closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
