Wizard: I Have a Nightmare World
Chapter 23 Tides Form, Herbs in Peril
When Lynn exited the nightmare world, the sky outside the window was still pitch black, and there was still some time before dawn.
Upon seeing this, Lynn was slightly taken aback.
He always thought that he would only leave the nightmare world when the time came, but he never expected that he would actually leave the nightmare world after he had the intention to leave.
This gave Lynn a new understanding of his own ability.
Shifting his attention away from the nightmare world, Lynn immediately sat up, took the animal hide scroll from his spatial ring, and placed it upright on the shelf in front of him.
The insights he gained from dying nineteen times in the nightmare world were still vividly imprinted in his mind. He had to recreate those feelings in the real world before they faded away.
He sat cross-legged, closed his eyes, and, following the method he used in the nightmare world, first emptied his consciousness, allowing his mental energy to flow freely in his consciousness space like water.
Then he opened his eyes, glancing at the tide pattern on the scroll out of the corner of his eye, trying to feel the rhythm of its rise and fall.
This time, he did not experience that violent information overload.
His spiritual energy seemed to have found a resonant frequency, and spontaneously began to flow in accordance with that rhythm.
A gentle wave slowly formed in the space of consciousness, followed by a second, a third...
Those lines appeared naturally in the depths of his consciousness, like marks left by the tide.
The whole process was incredibly smooth, as if his mental energy itself knew how to adapt to the rhythm of the tides.
When the first complete visualization of the tides took shape in his consciousness, Lynn felt a gentle and continuous power begin to surge.
That force was like a real tide, washing over his mental pool again and again. With each wash, he could clearly feel the gray impurities in the pool being peeled off little by little, and then swept away by the tidal force and expelled from his consciousness space.
"It's a success."
Lynn was overjoyed, but he did not stop. He continued to maintain the state of visualization, letting the tidal force wash over the spiritual liquid pool again and again.
Fifteen minutes later, he felt a slight fatigue in his mental energy, so he stopped meditating and slowly opened his eyes.
He glanced down at his hands, then immersed his consciousness back into his mental space, carefully observing the pool of spiritual fluid.
The gray spots that were clearly visible on the surface of the liquid, although not completely gone, were noticeably fewer than yesterday during the day, and the entire spiritual liquid pool looked much clearer.
"It works, and the effect is very obvious."
Lynn let out a long breath, finally feeling relieved.
At this rate of purification, he could purify more than 70% of the impurities in the spiritual liquid pool in five to seven days at most.
For the next two days, Lynn was completely immersed in the rhythm of visualization and purification.
In the morning, he would first take a [Mind-Concentrating Potion], and then spend fifteen minutes meditating on the tides, carefully cleansing the mental fluid pool once.
In the afternoon, he would go to the workbench to try to mix the "Coagulation Potion" and continue to strive for perfect quality.
He repeatedly experimented and adjusted the process. Although he had not yet succeeded, he could feel that he was just one step away from perfect quality.
At night, he would enter the Nightmare World, where he would continue to hone his proficiency in Tidal Contemplation while experimenting with even more insane methods to perfect the formula for the Breath-Gathering Potion.
On the morning of the third day, Lynn woke up in bed and, as usual, went to her work desk to look in the mirror and prepare to wash up.
When he looked up and saw himself in the mirror, he was stunned for a moment.
The face in the mirror still had the same ordinary facial contours, but the person's overall demeanor had changed significantly.
If he used to look like a somewhat gloomy young man, now he has a calm and composed demeanor.
The light in those eyes was more restrained and deeper than before.
His most striking feature is his eyes.
The color of the pupils is an extremely rare blackish-purple, a color that blends the darkness of night with violets.
Eyes of this color are extremely rare among apprentices; it is said that only those with exceptional innate mental strength or special bloodlines possess them.
Lynn stared at her eyes in the mirror for a few seconds, then looked away, quickly washed her face with water, and began preparing for today's meditation.
Just as he finished washing his face and turned around, his nose twitched slightly.
A faint, putrid smell of herbs wafted into my nostrils.
Lynn frowned, quickly walked out of the bedroom, and came to the herb garden area.
He looked down and his heart sank.
The leaves of three silver-leaved flowers had obvious black spots on their edges, the stem of one dragon's beard grass had begun to soften and turn yellow, and the roots of several blue-heart grasses had even been turned out of the soil, indicating that they were obviously dead.
Lynn crouched down and carefully examined the condition of the herbs.
The black spots on silver leaves are a symptom of fungal infection; the stems of dragon's beard grass turn yellow because of prolonged lack of water; and the roots of blue heart grass are turned upside down because the soil is compacted and not loosened in time.
These are all caused by inadequate daily care.
Lynn's brow furrowed even more.
During this period, he was frantically cultivating, meditating, and preparing potions, spending almost all his time improving himself, which greatly reduced the care of the herb garden.
He used to come back every morning and evening to check the herbs, watering them, removing pests, loosening the soil, and pruning dead leaves, leaving no stone unturned.
But since he started striving to become a second-class apprentice, he could only spare a few days to take a look at them, and in this short period of time, these delicate herbs began to have problems.
"This can't go on."
Lynn stood up and wiped the dirt off his hands.
"Although this is just a cultivation room, the herbs inside are one of my important sources of income."
"And as I begin to learn potion-making, I will not only be using herbs, but also some plants with extraordinary properties will be planted here, and there will be more and more of them."
"I need a stable and reliable supply of herbal materials."
Just as Lynn was worrying about this, there was a knock on the door.
Lynn walked over, opened the door, and stood Harvey, who was smiling, outside.
"Brother Lynn, how have things been these past few days? Is the Breath-Coagulating Potion going smoothly?"
Harvey walked towards the door as he spoke, but when he reached the herb garden area, he saw the withered herbs and paused.
"Hey, what happened?"
Lynn shook his head helplessly.
"I've been too busy with cultivation lately and haven't had time to take care of the herb garden. I'm having a headache over this. I can't possibly take care of each herb individually by myself; that would be too much of a waste of time."
Harvey stroked his chin, his eyes darting around a few times, and then suddenly clapped his hands.
"Brother Lynn, if you don't have time to tend to the herbs, I have a good suggestion."
Lynn immediately became interested.
"What suggestion?"
Harvey didn't keep anyone in suspense and just blurted out the truth.
"You can sign a garden fairy."
"A garden fairy?"
Lynn was slightly taken aback. He vaguely remembered hearing the name somewhere, but he couldn't recall exactly what it was.
"Yes, garden fairies are a small fairy race in the secondary elemental planes of the astral plane. They are only the size of a palm and have a pair of transparent wings like dragonflies."
As Harvey spoke, he gestured to Lynn to indicate the size of the name.
"They are naturally very compatible with plants and are very good at caring for herbs, cultivating new varieties, and controlling pests and diseases."
"A garden fairy can take care of hundreds of square meters of medicinal fields all by herself, and the quality of the herbs she takes care of is often better than those cultivated by humans."
Lynn's eyes lit up.
"Can they also help cultivate new species?"
The variety of herbs he cultivates is limited. If a garden fairy could help cultivate new species, his source of medicinal herbs could be greatly expanded.
"It didn't pass, but..." Harvey changed the subject, "Garden fairies aren't so easy to invite."
"They are astral beings. To summon them, you need to contact them through a dimensional portal. Otherwise, you won't find them even if you search every pet shop in White Raven Tower."
Lynn pressed further, "How exactly do I do it?"
Harvey shrugged helplessly.
"I'm not really sure about that either. After all, I'm just the manager of a potion shop, and my knowledge of astral creatures is limited to hearsay."
"But you can go to Lord Bloodvine. He is a certified wizard and definitely knows how to summon and contract garden fairies from the astral plane."
Lynn nodded, having already made up his mind.
After seeing Harvey off, Lynn didn't waste any time. He immediately put on the dark red Inheritor Badge, left the nurturing room, and headed straight for the White Raven Tower.
Using the power of spatial folding, Lynn arrived at the twelfth floor and knocked on the door of the Bloodvine Wizard's study.
After receiving permission from the other party, I pushed open the door and stepped inside.
This time, the Bloodvine Wizard was preparing a bottle of pale purple potion. Upon seeing Lynn's arrival, he looked up and asked while preparing the potion.
"How's your tidal visualization practice going?"
Lynn answered truthfully.
"I have been able to complete the initial visualization, and about 30% of the impurities collected in the spiritual liquid pool have been purified."
Then, he changed the subject and asked about the main purpose of his visit.
"Teacher, I've come today to ask you something."
"explain."
"The student wants to contract a garden fairy to take care of the herbs in the nursery, but the student knows nothing about how to summon astral creatures and hopes that the teacher can give him some guidance."
The Bloodvine Wizard stopped what he was doing while preparing the potion.
He looked Lynn up and down a few times, a rare smile appearing on his lips.
"A garden fairy? You certainly have a good eye."
"Those little guys are indeed good at tending herbs. Many wizards want to contract one, but not many are successful."
He took out a bright green seed from the drawer of his desk. The seed was only the size of a peanut, with some intricate patterns on its surface, and it emitted a faint green glow.
"This is the medium for summoning the garden fairy, the fairy seed."
The Bloodvine Wizard used his mental power to deliver the Fairy Seed to Lynn.
"Drip your blood onto this."
Lynn carefully took the emerald green fairy seed. The seed felt warm to the touch, and the patterns on its surface seemed to pulsate slightly as if they were alive.
He examined it carefully for a moment, then looked up and asked:
"Teacher, what do we need to do after the blood is dripped?"
How do you form a contract with a garden fairy? Are there any taboos or restrictions?
The Bloodvine Wizard picked up the potion bottle again and answered casually as he continued mixing the potion.
"After the blood is dripped, the seed will resonate with your spiritual power, guiding you to sense the coordinates of the secondary elemental plane of the astral plane."
"At that time, you will need to perform a summoning ritual next to the dimensional well on the third floor beneath the White Raven Tower. Once the Garden Fairy senses your presence, if she is willing to respond, she will project herself through the dimensional portal."
"Remember, a contract is not about coercion, but about mutual choice. If the other party is unwilling, you can't force them to stay."
