The pain is dull and muffled when you first hit it, like someone punched you. After that initial pain, it's not so noticeable anymore.

While taking a shower, steam filled the small bathroom, and a thin layer of white mist covered the mirror.

She squeezed out a pump of shower gel, rose-scented, pink lotion, lathered it in her palm, and applied it to her body. It felt smooth and had a sweet, cloying fragrance.

When she applied the ointment to her chest, her fingers paused for a moment.

The spot where I was hit hurts a bit, not on the surface of the skin, but somewhere inside, between the bone and the flesh. It hurts when I touch it, like someone has buried a tiny pebble there.

Bai Tao frowned, pressed down with her finger, and slowly increased the pressure little by little.

It hurts, but I can bear it.

She pressed it again, this time with a bit more force than before. Her fingertip touched something hard, small, round, hidden deep within her softness.

Bai Tao's hand stopped.

She squeezed hard, squeezing both sides at the same time.

She pinched the hard lump in her left breast with her fingers; it felt rough. Her right breast didn't have it.

The two sides feel different; the left side has an extra thing compared to the right side.

Could it be a blood clot?

It's probably a blood clot. Blood clots look like this; they feel hard to the touch and hurt when pressed.

She pinched herself in front of the mirror, pinching both breasts, but felt that the left and right sides were asymmetrical.

There's something on the left that shouldn't be there compared to the right. It's round, and it hurts when you press it. It also feels slightly swollen when you don't press it.

Could it be a nodule?

Bai Tao was so frightened that she almost burst into tears.

She turned off the shower, and water droplets fell onto the tiles.

She grabbed a towel, wiped her body haphazardly, and then hastily put on her pajamas.

She cried out.

"Pei Jin!"

Pei Jin had just received a reply email from the school.

The other party said that the process of reissuing the graduation certificate has been started and will take about a few weeks. Please wait patiently.

He also added his previous class group and alumni group. There were a lot of messages in the groups, so he set them to "Do Not Disturb" and only checked them occasionally.

He also went to the school's online forum and found posts offering high prices for essay writing services. Some posts had been deleted, while others were still up. He selected a few that seemed reliable and was about to contact them via private message.

When he heard Bai Tao call him, his finger was still hovering above the screen, ready to type the first line of text.

He placed his phone face down on the coffee table, stood up, and walked to the bathroom door.

"What's wrong?"

Bai Tao's voice came from behind the door, muffled, damp, and tearful. Her voice wasn't its usual sweet and gentle tone; instead, it was tense and trembling.

"Pei Jin, I think I've broken a bone—"

Bai Tao's voice paused for a moment, then rang out again, sounding even more panicked than before, "Waaah, my chest hurts so much!"

A look of surprise flashed across Pei Jin's face.

His eyebrows rose slightly, and then he realized that the place where he had been hit was starting to hurt, and the aftereffects were kicking in.

Sometimes bumps and knocks are like that; you don't feel anything when you first bump into someone, but it starts to hurt after a while.

This kind of pain is more persistent and more agonizing than the initial impact, like a fine needle slowly pricking under the skin.

"What?"

Pei Jin's voice sounded relatively calm, but his hand was already on the toilet doorknob.

He tightened his fingers slightly, trying to open the door, then stopped.

Bai Tao was taking a shower, and had just finished. It probably wasn't the right time for him to push the door open and come in.

His fingers loosened from the doorknob, withdrew, and hung at his sides.

"It's okay, it shouldn't be broken, don't be afraid."

Pei Jin spoke very softly, as if coaxing a frightened kitten, "If it were broken, you probably wouldn't be able to move right now."

"It broke!"

Bai Tao's voice came from behind the door, carrying a mixture of pain and irrationality.

"I touched it, and I feel that the bones on both sides of my body are asymmetrical!"

Pei Jin stood at the toilet door, his head tilted slightly back.

"It's so asymmetrical, waaaaaah." Bai Tao cried inside.

He actually knew.

The bones in a person's left and right ribcages are not perfectly symmetrical. Most people's left ribs are slightly higher than their right ribs, or their right ribs are slightly wider than their left ribs. Sometimes you can feel a slight difference when you touch them.

Bai Tao had probably never compared her left and right breasts so carefully before. Today, she was bumped and it hurt. When she touched it, she felt the already existing, inconspicuous, and normal difference, and then she assumed it was a problem caused by the bump.

Pei Jin tried his best to educate Bai Tao, but when she was emotional, reasoning with her was useless; she needed someone who could understand her emotions.

The door was opened from the inside.

Bai Tao stood at the door, her hair still wet, a few strands clinging to her cheeks, water droplets dripping down her hair and onto the shoulders of her nightgown, leaving a few dark dots.

Her whole little face was scrunched up, her eyebrows were downturned, her nose was red, and her mouth was pouting, making her look pitiful.

A tear hangs on her face, about to fall, reflecting light under the lamp.

Her hands were still on her chest, fingers spread, resting on the two soft hemispheres, groping anxiously as if to confirm whether the lump was still there, whether it had grown bigger, or whether there had increased in number.

Pei Jin bit down hard on the flesh on both sides of his mouth.

My teeth have sunk even deeper, and I feel a clearer, slightly aching pain in my cheek muscles.

He began to feel grateful for the dim yellow chandelier in the basement; the light wasn't bright enough to illuminate the subtle, less-than-respectable changes on his face.

He was also glad that he was wearing those black shorts; the black fabric absorbed all shadows and undulations under the dim light, and his jaw ached from biting so hard.

"It's so asymmetrical, waaaaaah." Bai Tao's voice was soft and weak.

Her tears finally fell, dripping onto the neckline of her nightgown.

I really couldn't help it.

Pei Jin watched her hand stroking his chest, saw the redness on her nose, and noticed the teardrops still clinging to her eyelashes. Each image gently tickled a certain part of his heart.

His hands were itchy.

He looked at Bai Tao's wrinkled little face from crying, reached out, and pinched Bai Tao's face hard with his index finger and thumb, pulling it outwards forcefully.

He pinched Bai Tao's cheeks until they were deformed, and his mouth was pulled crooked, revealing half a row of neat teeth.

She hissed, baring her teeth and furrowing her brows. "What are you doing!"

Pei Jin released his grip.

Two faint, red finger marks were left on Bai Tao's cheek, exactly the shape of his fingers, and he felt a strange sense of satisfaction.

His impulse was somewhat relieved by this, and he withdrew his hand, letting it hang at his side, his fingertips still retaining the warmth and softness of Bai Tao's cheek.

"Let's go, I'll take you to the clinic. You should be fine."

Pei Jin's voice returned to its usual tone, unhurried and calm.

He turned around, took the key from the coffee table, and glanced back at Bai Tao, who was rubbing her face.

so cute.

Bai Tao blinked, and two tears fell down her cheeks.

She wiped her face with the back of her hand, wiping away the tear stains and revealing a glistening face.

She nodded and obediently followed him to change her clothes.

Pei Jin leaned against the doorway, his back to the room, and heard the sound of fabric rubbing behind him.

Bai Tao changed and stood behind him, gently tugging at the corner of his clothes.

"Alright, Pei Jin, let's go."
