From Alchemy Apprentice to All-Powerful God King
Chapter 19: A Trio's Journey, Full of Gains
"Damn those dire wolves, how can they be so troublesome!"
In the dense forest, a guild member was caught off guard and bitten on the arm by a dire wolf. The wound spread rapidly due to the corrosive venom and burst into green flames.
Before he could retaliate, a second, long-lurking wolf suddenly burst out of the bushes, its bloody maw wide open, sharp fangs exposed in the air, and lunged at his neck.
At the critical moment, a self-destructing bug accurately struck the wolf's abdomen, and an explosion instantly erupted in the air.
The sudden attack caused the wolf to lose its balance and fall to the side.
The ability user was equally surprised, and after surviving the ordeal, looked in the direction from which the exploding bugs had come.
It was Matthew and Luca.
"Don't just stand there like an idiot, there's still one left!"
It wasn't until Matthew reminded him that he realized what was happening, and he quickly conjured a wind blade, slashing it at the demonic wolf that was already pouncing on him.
With the help of the exploding bugs, the three of them clumsily dealt with the two demon wolves.
Thank you.
Isaac sat on the ground, clutching his arm in pain. The wolfsbane was spreading upwards, and if it wasn't treated promptly, his arm could become completely necrotic.
As a member of the Hunter Guild, he naturally recognized Luca and Matthew.
And coincidentally, it was Isaac who helped Matthew cut stones at the jade market last time.
However, he had no time to chat with the two of them at the moment. He took out a magic potion and frantically poured it into his mouth. Then he poured the rest on his arm, trying to extinguish the flames produced by the wolfsbane.
But it didn't seem to work very well; under the suppression of the magic potion, the wolfsbane became even more potent.
Seeing this, Luca stepped forward, observed for a moment with a serious expression, and said, "How about I give it a try?"
Isaac had no other choice but to let Luca try. If that didn't work, he would have to end the expedition and rush back to town for treatment.
As Luca channeled his magic, a semi-transparent droplet gathered in his palm and dripped onto the wound on Isaac's arm.
The next moment, the wolfsbane, which had been slowly spreading, wilted as if it had encountered its nemesis.
No longer powerful.
"It works!" Isaac exclaimed with delight, not expecting that Luca possessed a water worm, which just solved his immediate problem.
The excruciating pain gradually subsided only after Luca completely extinguished the wolfsbane on his arm.
The surface wounds also slowly healed under the treatment of the water droplets.
"Kid, you're really something!"
"That's right, don't you know who I am?" Luca said arrogantly, but after Matthew's prompting look, he changed his tone.
"You can't compete with us for the demonic insects inside the beast's corpse this time."
Upon hearing this, Isaac burst out laughing.
"You brats, do you think I'm that stingy? Here you go!"
If it weren't for Matthew and his companion, even if he managed to escape, he would have basically failed in this campaign.
Logically, we should thank the two of them.
After the treatment was over, Luca went off to dissect the alien beast.
Matthew then spoke briefly with Isaac to learn about the current situation at the border.
"The knights led the main force forward. My magic power is not strong, so I didn't have many opportunities to kill monsters while following them. Therefore, we moved a little slower and dealt with the monsters that were left behind."
"I just didn't expect the wolves to be so cunning. Not only do they attack from the shadows, but they also always travel in pairs. If it weren't for the two of you, I'm afraid I really wouldn't know what would have happened."
Isaac smiled wryly, "If I had known it would be like this, I would have been better off sticking with the main group."
From him, Matthew also learned that there seemed to be quite a few forgotten beasts near this dense forest.
"Why don't the three of us work together to clear this dense forest clean?"
"No! I'm already in danger alone, and if I take both of you with me..."
Isaac had intended to reject Matthew's suggestion, but when he saw that the other party had taken out two whole cans of exploding bugs, he was speechless and somewhat taken aback.
There are more than thirty in the two cans. Even if you sell them for one gold coin each, you could buy a slightly weaker demon insect.
These are all things that Matthew secretly refined and hid over the past few days, just in case.
"With these self-destructing bugs, plus Luca's and my abilities, it doesn't seem like a bad idea."
Seeing this, Isaac changed his tune.
He joined the campaign to save money, and naturally he wouldn't pass up the opportunity.
Explosions continued to ring out in the dense forest.
The three had a clear division of labor: Isaac was responsible for holding off the enemy, Matthew was responsible for attacking with exploding bugs, and Luca was responsible for healing and supporting from the rear by casting water droplets.
As night deepened, the dense forest fell completely silent.
After counting their spoils, all three of them had smiles on their faces.
"There are thirty-three in total. I'll take ten, and you two can share the rest." Isaac was very satisfied after collecting the ten Death Demon Insects.
This number far exceeded his expectations. If he had been with the main group or had been alone, he would have been grateful to have five.
"I only need ten, you can have the rest." Luca also took ten. He hadn't done much work today except for providing support in the back.
Matthew didn't stand on ceremony and collected the remaining thirteen. The Otherworld Record didn't pop up any new recipes, so it seems that the dead first-tier magical insects won't be captured.
Then, he looked thoughtfully at the area in the distance where explosions were still occurring.
"Alright, it's getting late, you two should head back soon."
Luca and Isaac were surprised; what did they mean by being told to go back?
"Matthew, aren't you coming back with us?"
"No, it's too dangerous for an alchemist like you who doesn't even have a magic insect to be alone on the border."
Hearing their advice, Matthew felt a surge of warmth in his heart, but he didn't want to miss the night.
"Don't worry, I won't provoke any monsters. Besides, there's a large force and knights ahead."
Seeing that the two were still determined to go together, Matthew had no choice but to take out and display the various disposable magical insects he was wearing.
"Holy crap! Matthew, which store did you rob? There are so many!"
"Since you don't want to leave, then be careful."
Isaac knew they couldn't persuade Matthew, so he handed him the last bottle of magic potion he had on him.
"Take it, stop hesitating. You don't have many magic potions left to activate the magic insects, do you?"
Matthew took the magic potion with surprise. This stuff wasn't cheap; even alchemists like them only had two bottles a month.
Luca awkwardly reached into his pocket; he hadn't brought anything with him and could only offer a verbal promise.
"In a couple of days, I'll take you to the jade gambling market for some fun! Be careful, okay?"
After watching the two figures walk away and confirming that they were far away, Matthew took out the set of knight's armor.
After studying it for a while, I put it on and used pebbles and magic to patch up the hole in my abdomen.
"I have to say, it fits quite well."
Matthew stretched himself a bit and realized that if he covered his face, he didn't seem much different from a real knight. He then headed towards the main force.
Tonight is destined to be a crazy night.
