From Alchemy Apprentice to All-Powerful God King
Chapter 23 Flynn's Furious
"Who made it?"
"I made it!"
Inside the room, Brandon picked up the demonic insect on the table and examined it closely, his face showing disbelief.
He didn't attend the alchemist assessment that day, but he heard about this demonic insect. It was even more powerful than the self-destructing insect and could explode twice. But wasn't the recipe in the hands of an alchemist named Matthew?
"You stole their formula?"
Brandon looked at Flynn, his expression gradually becoming serious. He put the demonic insect back in his hand. This thing was a good thing, but he wouldn't dare to sell it without a legitimate source.
After all, both the Alchemist Bishop and the Goddess have repeatedly expressed their anticipation for Matthew's formula.
If Flynn really does something wicked, then he has no intention of getting involved.
"Don't worry, Matthew is my student. He personally told me this recipe and refined it right in front of me. You can sell it openly and honestly!"
After agreeing on the price, Flynn walked out of the tavern with a big smile: "Five gold coins for one, and the materials are only one gold coin, so I made a net profit of four." He then quickened his pace toward the guild, as he would have to work all night.
......
The next morning, Flynn, who had stayed up all night, looked at the twenty swarms of exploding bugs laid out in front of him and couldn't help but yawn.
"Twenty of them, a hundred gold coins, is more than what you'd make working hard in the guild for half a year."
Even though drowsiness was overwhelming him, the joy of making money kept Flynn excited.
Just as he put away the demonic insects, there was a series of urgent knocks on the door outside the alchemy workshop.
"Which apprentice is so diligent this early in the morning?"
However, as soon as he opened the door, he saw Brandon standing outside with a furious expression, his beard splitting in anger.
"Flynn! You dare open the door for me?"
"Brandon? What's wrong?"
When the tavern owner came knocking, Flynn initially thought that they didn't have enough magic insects to sell, but looking at the other man's expression, he realized that it wasn't what he had imagined.
"What's wrong? You have the nerve to ask!" Brandon strode into the room, slammed the door shut, and angrily threw the swarm of exploding bugs from last night onto the table: "Look at this garbage you've created!"
Flynn picked up the swarm of worms with a puzzled look and examined it: "No problem, this is a swarm of worms."
The next moment, Brandon snatched the magical insect from his hand, magic power appeared in his hand, he activated the insect, and threw it at Flynn.
"Are you crazy?!"
Startled, Flynn immediately retreated, gathering wind blades in his hand in an attempt to cut the already activated swarm of exploding bugs in half.
However, the swarm of exploding insects activated faster than he had expected. After rapidly expanding, there was only a "pop" sound before the insects' bodies split open without actually exploding.
The larva that sprang from its body was rapidly expanding, but it still did not explode.
It looks impressive, but it's actually completely ineffective.
"Look at what you've produced! A whole bunch of duds!"
"This... how could this be? How could I sell you a dud! You must have used the wrong one!"
Flynn stared in disbelief at the swarm of exploding bugs that hadn't exploded at all. He quickly leaned down to check, but the result was hard for him to accept.
This demonic insect was indeed refined by him yesterday, and no one else could have refined it without the recipe.
"Hmph, I knew you'd say that. Just you wait and see!"
Brandon activated all the remaining swarms of exploding bugs from last night and then threw them on the ground, but none of them exploded.
"Last night I sent one of the tavern's underlings to test it out. The beast wasn't killed, but he almost didn't make it back from deep in the border region." Brandon's anger remained undiminished; he was extremely dissatisfied with Flynn's deception.
"I don't want your 'tenfold compensation' anymore. Just give me double the money from yesterday, and we'll call it even. Otherwise, you know how fast news spreads through my tavern!"
Clearly, if the compensation is not satisfactory, news of Flynn's fake swarm of exploding bugs and his deception of Matthew's recipe will spread like wildfire throughout Val Town and the Hunter's Guild, and even the Knights and the Goddess will find out.
Seeing this, Flynn could only swallow his anger and pay double the compensation to send Brandon away.
Looking at the deflated demonic insects on the ground, and then thinking of the twenty he had refined overnight, the expression on his face was no less than that of someone who had eaten a stale bun that had been sitting out for half a year.
"Matthew! This kid must be playing a trick on me!"
Thinking about who was behind this, Flynn picked up the corpses of the demonic insects on the ground and strode menacingly toward Matthew's house!
......
At this moment, Matthew had called Luca over early in the morning, and the two of them were sitting in the yard eating the pancakes that Jimmy had brought.
"Matthew, why did you call me over so early? Ah~~" Luca yawned sleepily, his eyes vacant, holding a waffle in his hand, looking like he might fall asleep again at any moment. He had never gotten up this early before.
"Do you want to make money?" Matthew asked, taking a bite of his muffin.
"I miss it. Now that I'm an alchemist, my uncle doesn't subsidize my materials anymore. Otherwise, I wouldn't be gambling on stones to make quick money." Luca suddenly came to his senses when he heard about making money.
Alchemists like them are in the most awkward stage.
Apprentices at least get free materials, while higher-level mages can help people refine first-tier magical insects and earn gold coins in the process.
As for alchemists like them, they have no other source of income except for crafting disposable magical insects for ability users and earning a small processing fee.
Of course, Luca is not in this category; if he wanted to make money, it would be easy for him.
"I'm going to open an alchemy workshop in Val Town, and then sell swarms of exploding bugs in your name," Matthew explained to Luca as he stood up after finishing his waffle.
"The recipe will spread sooner or later, so we need to sell swarm bugs and make a quick buck before everyone learns it!"
Listening to Matthew's thoughts, Luca's brain felt as if it had been stroked by a great mage, the wrinkles in its cortex smoothed out.
"Your idea is amazing!"
Although Luca had never experienced the harsh realities of society, he was clearly not a fool, having been trained by the Alchemist Bishop. He quickly realized that this matter had great potential.
The two hit it off immediately and were about to begin preparations.
They made a fortune on materials a few days ago and don't need them now. The main problem is finding a good location, but Luca has taken on that task; he can get a storefront in a good location.
Just as the two were discussing the details, the door to Matthew's house was suddenly pushed open.
"Matthew! Get out here!" Flynn stormed in, his face contorted with rage.
But when he saw the two people sitting in the courtyard, his expression immediately turned into a smile, but he secretly thought that the other party had come to steal his formula.
"Luca, what are you doing here? Where's your uncle?"
"Huh? It's Instructor Flynn. My uncle is at the guild. If you're looking for him, you've probably come to the wrong place," Luca muttered as he ate his pancake.
Clearly, Flynn wasn't looking for his uncle, and he breathed a sigh of relief after hearing that he wasn't there.
He then pulled Matthew aside to a corner, asked him in a low voice with dissatisfaction, while magic appeared in his hand and he pressed it on Matthew's shoulder, the threat obvious.
"Matthew, why did you give me a fake formula!"
Feeling the pain in his shoulder, Matthew immediately cried out, attracting the attention of Luca, who was standing nearby.
"Fake recipe! Instructor Flynn, you can make whatever you want with insects, but you can't just spout nonsense!"
