From Alchemy Apprentice to All-Powerful God King
Chapter 34 The Ruggs Family
"Thump! Thump! Thump!"
Outside the Hunter's Guild guest room, Matthew hesitated for a long time before knocking on the door after mentally preparing himself.
He had already asked Luca, and this was the room Lucia was staying in at the guild.
After a short wait, footsteps were heard inside the house, and the door was then opened.
Lucia had her wet hair down and was wearing a white tank top, showing off the scar on her chest without any hesitation. The water droplets on her shoulders hadn't been dried yet, so she had obviously just finished washing up.
Upon seeing that it was Matthew, his delicate face furrowed with some confusion.
"Why are you here again?"
Matthew admitted that he was drawn to the sudden appearance of the white jade, but he quickly adjusted his gaze, trying to appear respectful.
"Lady Lucia, I have something important to report to you... It's about Leon."
Upon hearing that the other party had news of Leon, Lucia swallowed back the words she was about to say to send them away.
She peered around and, after not seeing Seth or any of the Knights, opened the door and spoke.
"Come in and talk."
As soon as Matthew entered the room, he was drawn to the inner armor hanging to the side.
It wasn't because it was anything special, but because it was completely unsuitable for Lucia's figure. It was far too small; it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say it was meant for a child. He found it hard to imagine how she had managed to fit into it.
"This is a type of knight's armor that can adjust its size using magic."
Lucia took it off, and with the transfer of magic, it quickly grew larger. She then put it on, blocking out the only view in the room.
Matthew felt a little disappointed about this. He could have just explained how to use it without demonstrating it, but he still had some doubts.
"Knight's armor? You're also from the Knights' Guild?"
Lucia shook her head upon hearing this: "It's just called Knight's Armor. I'm not a member of the Knights' Guild. You just said you had news of Leon, but there are no members of the Knights' Guild here right now. You can speak now."
She noticed Matthew's resistance to the Knights.
Now that Flynn has escaped and they haven't caught him, they're stuck in a dead end, frozen in place.
They wanted to go back and report, but they hadn't even caught the murderer, and the identity of the murderer remained a mystery.
Based on the information gathered from the visits, Matthew certainly had the motive and the ability to do it, but the evidence in the most crucial places all pointed to Flynn.
Even now, she doesn't completely trust Matthew.
"If I told you... that Leon was actually killed by the goddess, would you believe me?"
The already quiet room fell into a deathly silence as Matthew spoke.
Watching Lucia's chest heave violently and her breath, which was tinged with blue light and scorched the tabletop, Matthew could clearly sense her strength.
This has completely surpassed human existence; compared to myself, it is far superior.
However, Lucia quickly suppressed her emotions and asked in return.
Do you have any evidence?
"no."
Matthew's crisp and decisive answer made Lucia feel that he was playing her for a fool. Magic immediately appeared in her hands, and she looked at him with displeasure.
But the next moment, Matthew's words instantly calmed her down.
"I did go out with Leon that night, but he said he was ordered by the goddess to ask me for the magic insect formula. I had no choice but to give it to him and leave. Then he disappeared the next day."
Lucia kept her eyes on Matthew the whole time, but she couldn't detect any flaws in his expression or tone.
But if this is true, then everything becomes clear.
Leon took it upon himself to ask for the formula on behalf of the goddess. After obtaining it, he encountered Flynn, who had always coveted the formula. Flynn launched a sneak attack, intending to completely eliminate Leon and Matthew, who had both seen and knew the formula.
They could even use someone else to do their dirty work, so that they could become the only person who knew the recipe for the demonic insect!
This is tantamount to the goddess Elena killing Leon. If it weren't for helping her obtain the formula, none of the subsequent events would have occurred.
If Matthew had mind-reading abilities, he would truly admire Lucia's thought process.
He just wanted to make up a reason to make her fight with Elena so that he would have time to mediate, but he didn't expect her to cover up the whole thing.
"Why are you telling me all this? Aren't you afraid the goddess and the knight will cause you trouble?"
She also noticed that Dougareth and the other members of the Knights were very perfunctory tonight and did not take any action to avenge Leon.
After a moment of silence, Matthew looked up, his expression serious and earnest, and said, "I just feel that we should stand on the right side."
Upon hearing this, Lucia's attitude towards Matthew immediately changed.
Seth's initial obstructive attitude led her to believe that Matthew was also a member of the Knights.
It was only now that she realized that this was because they didn't want her to uncover the truth.
Just as she was thinking, Matthew pulled out another trump card.
He took out the token Elena had given him, placed it on the table, and then spoke.
"This was also given to me by the goddess. She told me to either leave here and join the Knights in the Empire, or work for her. I came to see you tonight to ask for your advice."
Upon seeing that knight's token, which was enough to drive all the young people in the empire mad, Lucia couldn't help but feel curious about Matthew.
How could an alchemist from a small town win the favor of a goddess? He must have something extraordinary about him.
On her way back, she had heard other ability users mention the origin of the swarm of exploding insects, and now she believed it completely.
The young man in front of you is the alchemist who developed the new formula, and he is an alchemist comparable to a second-tier ability user!
However, she didn't ask any questions. After thinking for a moment, she slowly raised the corners of her mouth and gave her suggestion.
"This is your chance. I shouldn't really say much, but since you've come to me, it means there's still hope... Are you interested in joining our Rogers family?"
"What Elena can give you, we can give you too!"
Inside the room, Lucia leaned forward and suddenly extended an olive branch. Even her inner armor couldn't completely conceal her proud breasts, which startled Matthew.
Wait... what's wrong with you people from big cities? Why are you asking for favors from everyone you see?
However, Matthew did not refuse, but instead pretended to hesitate, showing an unsure expression.
......
Half an hour later, Matthew left Lucia's room, but he now carried a token from the Rogers family.
Looking at the two tokens in his hand, recalling the trick Lucia had just given him, he felt a sense of helplessness on his face. This had completely deviated from his expectations.
After putting away the token and sighing, he headed back towards the knights' camp at the border.
