From Alchemy Apprentice to All-Powerful God King
Chapter 7 The Greedy Mentor Flynn
For several days, Matthew barely left the house, and apart from Jimmy, no one else came to visit him.
"It seems the warning did have an effect."
Of course, it's also possible that he threw all the magic stone scraps outside the town, making it impossible for the tractor bugs to find him.
Matthew snapped out of his reverie and focused his attention on the Chronicles of Another World.
Alchemy Maniac Lv.1: 470/2000 experience points, 15% success rate
[Do a good deed every day: 40/100 experience points, +4 luck]
He hasn't been idle these past few days. After completing the task of crafting ten exploding bugs, he began researching the 2.0 recipe.
Unfortunately, the success rate is only 50% at present.
The Alchemy Maniac's tag experience points only increased by 170.
"The experience gained from one-time use magic insects is too little, and we can't afford the recipe for a first-tier magic insect. It's a tough situation."
He did try to refine the explosive bugs again, exploiting a loophole in the alternate world record.
However, once a first-tier magical insect has been crafted, it will no longer gain any experience.
Unless he could craft an advanced version, an upgraded version of the exploding bug, but unfortunately he didn't have the recipe or the materials.
Matthew pondered that if he wanted to improve quickly, he would have to become an alchemist in the guild, or even a mentor.
"That way, I can openly use the guild's resources to improve my proficiency and experience."
Boom...boom...boom...
While Matthew was thinking, there was a sudden knock on the door.
"Matthew, are you home? Instructor Flynn wants to see you at the Guild Alchemy Workshop."
Hearing the apprentice's announcement from outside the door, Matthew responded.
"Okay, then hurry up and go, I still need to notify the next person."
After everyone had walked away, Matthew leisurely went out the door.
Today is the day to hand in homework, but usually it's at the same time. Why are we being called over one by one?
Although I had some doubts, I still guessed the general reason.
Be careful when a mentor or company leader asks to meet with you privately.
Having lived two lives, if you still don't understand, then you've lived in vain.
The alchemy workshop was unusually quiet today. Before Matthew even got close, he saw an apprentice come out of the room with a complicated expression on his face.
The apprentice left the guild in a hurry without saying goodbye, as if he had something urgent to attend to.
Seeing this, Matthew's suspicions became even more certain.
As I pushed open the door, I saw Professor Flynn lounging in a recliner with his legs crossed.
"Oh, it's Matthew. Have you finished your homework?"
Flynn turned his head to look at him, his face bearing the expression of a kind teacher.
Seeing this, Matthew took out a culture jar containing twelve exploding bugs from his pocket and handed it to Flynn.
"Mentor, there are twelve in total, they're all here."
As for why there were twelve, Matthew didn't explain, and Flynn didn't ask further.
The latter simply took out seven and put them into his jar, then nodded in satisfaction.
"Matthew, you're very good. Actually, among this batch of apprentices, you're the one I have the most faith in, and you're also the one with the best chance of passing the alchemist exam, but... well..."
Flynn looked up at Matthew halfway through his sentence.
He remained respectful to the latter, which made him feel even more satisfied.
After a moment of silence, he continued.
"As you know, there are many alchemy workshops in the guild, and there are more than just your batch of apprentices. The competition to qualify for the assessment is quite fierce."
Flynn looked somewhat embarrassed, and spread out his palms, gesturing to the five alchemy workshops in the famous guild.
But the next moment, two gold coins were placed in his palm.
"What do you mean by this? Are you trying to bribe me?"
While Flynn questioned Matthew, his smile grew wider and wider.
Matthew immediately closed his hand and said.
"I know you're in a difficult position, Professor. I can't really help you much, but this is just a small token of my appreciation. Calling it a bribe is too harsh. It's just what I mean."
Flynn looked at Matthew, increasingly satisfied. It had been a long time since he had encountered such an aptitude apprentice.
"Oh, there's no need. You're the best apprentice in my batch. If I don't recommend you, who else can I recommend?"
He then put the gold coins away, telling Matthew to focus on preparing for the upcoming assessment, assuring him that he would take care of everything.
The two tugged back and forth in the alchemy workshop for a long time before Matthew finally left the guild, citing the need to go back and prepare for the assessment.
"You little brat, I'll show you what I'm made of."
Having been a professor in his previous life, these kinds of interpersonal skills were practically no different from an open-book exam for him.
Fortunately, I sold the demonic insects beforehand, otherwise I really wouldn't have been able to come up with these few gold coins.
……
Just as Matthew left the guild.
Carter, looking bitter, also entered the guild, passing by the former.
Today, he not only failed to complete his task of killing twenty exploding insects, but he also lost all the recommendation fee he had given to his mentor at the jade gambling market.
He had hoarded materials for half a year, and the five gold coins he earned in return were all gone.
"It's all Matthew's fault. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be in this situation now."
He originally thought that if he could gamble on the magic insect, he could not only turn his life around, but also become an ability user, join a guild, and no longer be exploited by his mentor Flynn.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned; he messed everything up and lost everything.
Carter didn't dare go directly to the alchemy workshop, but instead headed towards the other side, to the place where apprentices often gathered.
"Hey, how much do you have left? Can I borrow some?"
Why should I lend you money? I don't even have enough for myself, why won't you lend me some?
At this moment, a large number of apprentices gathered here, and all of them were asking for money.
Clearly, Matthew wasn't the only one the mentor favored.
Seeing this, Carter had completely lost hope and had no choice but to grit his teeth and head towards the Alchemy Workshop.
As soon as I entered, I saw Professor Flynn playing with two gold coins in his hand.
However, upon seeing someone enter, he immediately put it away, his expression displeased.
"Didn't you know to knock before coming in?"
Carter quickly apologized, adopting the most condescending attitude.
"How's your homework coming along?"
Flynn looked at Carter, who was standing silently with his head down, and knew without a doubt that he hadn't finished.
Dissatisfaction gradually appeared on his face.
But instead of getting angry immediately, he patiently repeated the same lines he had already said several times.
However, the next moment, Carter was kicked to the ground, and before he could get up, a foot stepped on his head.
"Not only did you not finish your homework, but you also want to take out a loan from me? Do you think I'm a missionary who distributes porridge every morning?"
Flynn's eyes were full of disdain, and he was just about to teach the other man a lesson he would never forget.
Carter hugged his feet, knelt on the ground and pressed his head against the floor, his mind flashing back to Matthew, whom he had just met, and the news he had overheard at the back door of the jade gambling ground a few days ago.
With a look of panic, he blurted out, "It's Matthew! Yes, I know Matthew's secret! Professor Flynn, please spare my life! I'll tell you Matthew's secret!"
Looking at Carter, who was trembling like a leaf at my feet, and at what he had just said.
Flynn touched the gold coin he was holding to his chest, his expression gradually becoming playful.
