From Alchemy Apprentice to All-Powerful God King
Chapter 70 Grace's Love Letters
"A big man? Just now... Ugh..."
Matthew shoved the food on the table into Luca's mouth, silencing him, and then spoke himself.
"Can't you see? There are so many big men here. Which one are you talking about?"
The leading knight, though somewhat displeased, couldn't do anything since all the ability users in the inn were looking at them.
We could only search briefly within the inn.
However, before leaving, Matthew overheard the whispers among the knights.
"Damn Hart, if it weren't for him spreading the word everywhere, we wouldn't be running around all the time."
"Instead of complaining, you should ask around. The news has already spread far and wide. Almost everyone coming to Moore City now is here for the ruins."
"You think they arrested him to stop the spread of information? They don't even know his location yet. Why did the higher-ups arrest him? To extract information from him."
Matthew sensed something fishy about it and immediately became interested in the ruins of the Angelic Church.
Since the next airship to the Empire won't arrive for another month, and there's nowhere to go in the meantime, I might as well research this.
The original plan was to break through the swarm of exploding insects in Moore City, make a fortune, and upgrade all the magical insects in his body to the second tier.
But now there's a conflict with the Chamber of Commerce, plus the new situation I just learned about.
The entire city of Moore is no longer dominated by a single entity; instead, various forces are dividing up this territory.
It's too difficult for him to get a share of the profits.
After the knights left, Luca swallowed the food in his mouth and looked at Matthew with a puzzled expression.
"Brother Ma, why didn't you tell me just now? You didn't actually believe that big man's nonsense, did you?"
"Angelic Church? I've never even heard of it. What kind of legacy is this?" Luca scoffed.
After thinking for a moment, Matthew lowered his voice and reminded him, "Whether you have it or not, don't create trouble for yourself when you're out and about."
"Besides, we'll be staying here for at least another month, so even if something does happen, it's not a bad thing to go and see what's going on."
Matthew watched the knights' departing figures, feeling that something was amiss.
If it's just about finding a location, there's absolutely no need to make a big fuss and search all over the city.
Instead of wasting time, why not go outside and sweep along the way? They must have other motives for capturing Hart, but the key question is, why did Hart, whom they're talking about, suddenly strike up a conversation with me?
"Yeah, how are we going to get through a month? I should have stayed in Val Town a little longer, then none of this trouble would have happened."
Luca interrupted Matthew's thoughts and then went upstairs to rest.
Matthew also returned to his room. There were fewer restrictions at the inn, making it more relaxing.
Looking out the window at Moore City, even late at night, there are still vendors and passersby everywhere on the streets.
The lights were on, and there was no feeling of it being late at night.
Actually, even without the matter of escorting Luca to the Empire, he would have been quite willing to participate in the site.
With limited resources and no expert guidance, one must rely entirely on oneself; in such cases, secluded ruins become the best option.
After activating the ability to do one good deed a day, Matthew observed his recent luck.
Amidst the not-so-dense white mist, a few wisps of black mist were faintly visible.
"Looks like I'm pretty lucky; at least it's not completely black."
In the last few days, he discovered the true meaning of doing a good deed every day. The white mist on his head did not appear out of nowhere, but was accumulated through his daily good deeds.
The same principle applies to negative energy; it increases based on the bad deeds one does.
[Daily Good Deed Lv.1: Experience Points 460/1000, Luck +10]
Looking at the tag above his head, this was the experience he had accumulated along the way; one item a day was still too slow.
It will take at least two more months to reach level 2.
However, considering that Level 1 abilities are already so monstrous, Level 2 shouldn't be much worse.
Just as Matthew was pondering his next move, there was a sudden knock on the door.
This instantly triggered him, who had been attacked once that night, causing him to react and begin to generate magic.
"I don't recall ordering any service?"
Being knocked on the door in the middle of the night is usually not a good thing.
Matthew cautiously approached, and after observing two figures standing outside the door, he slowly pushed it open a crack.
Then I saw Grace's slightly nervous, blushing face.
The two exchanged a glance, and her eyes immediately showed a hint of panic. She lowered her voice and asked softly.
"Matthew, why are you staying here? Are you not comfortable at the Chamber of Commerce?"
When Grace asked the question, Matthew was taken aback, then looked up at Holly, who had a helpless expression, and instantly understood.
It's likely that Gleason didn't tell her the truth.
"Well, it's more convenient to stay here, so I won't trouble you."
Grace pushed open the door and walked in. Looking at the cramped little room, she looked puzzled but didn't ask any questions.
How did you find me?
After closing the door, Matthew turned to Grace, who didn't know where to sit, and questioned her.
Grace felt a little embarrassed upon hearing this. After confirming that Holly outside the door was not eavesdropping, she spoke in a voice so soft that only Matthew could hear her.
"I used a messenger insect."
Upon hearing this, Grace's neck even turned slightly red.
Matthew was also taken aback. This works too?
However, Grace immediately explained, "But we only have a general location. We're not that precise yet. I had to ask someone from the Chamber of Commerce to find out your exact location."
Matthew rubbed his forehead, leaning against the headboard, somewhat speechless.
In other words, at this moment, that old devil Gleason must be nearby as well.
If it weren't for his instructions, Grace wouldn't have had the opportunity to come to him.
Then he got straight to the point and asked her.
"Speak, what did the president send you here for?"
"ah?!"
Grace looked surprised; she hadn't even said anything yet, and Matthew had already guessed it.
A hint of apology immediately appeared on his face, and he quickly offered an explanation.
"Matthew...it's not what you think. I offered to come find you, but I was told you had left, so I came out...and here I am...of course, my father also entrusted me with something..."
Grace's explanations became increasingly confusing, prompting Matthew to quickly stop her.
"Alright, you don't need to explain so much. Just tell me what's wrong. If there's nothing else, you can leave now. I'm going to rest."
He didn't really want to get entangled with the Chamber of Commerce; he preferred dealing with people with special abilities to businessmen.
Seeing Matthew trying to get rid of her, Grace became dejected, her eyes reddening as she pulled out a letter and a magic ring.
"The Lord of the Rings is my father's reward for taking care of me all this way. The letter is what I wrote to you, so you must remember to read it."
After handing the items to Matthew, Grace rushed out the door and hurriedly left the inn. Holly, completely bewildered, had no idea what had happened inside and could only catch up with her mistress.
However, even after they had walked away, Matthew could still faintly hear a curse coming from the street.
"Matthew, you big idiot!"
Upon hearing this, Matthew shook his head helplessly and then began to examine the magic ring.
The room was spacious, but there weren't many things inside.
More than three hundred gold coins and one thousand magic crystals.
"Tsk tsk tsk, quite a generous gesture, no wonder he's the president of the chamber of commerce."
After accepting the bribe, Matthew turned his attention back to the letter.
Looking at the heart drawn on the envelope, and recalling Grace's shout just now, Matthew suddenly had a bad feeling and felt a headache coming on.
"This...it can't be a love letter, can it?"
