Physical mage, challenge me to a solo duel!
Chapter 39 Insufficient Resources and Strategies
If you ask an ordinary person what they most admire about monks.
You might get answers like "high income," "great power," "respect from others," or "the opportunity to see different scenery."
However, if you ask this question to an average high school student, the answer you'll likely get is: easy.
Yes, easy!
Admittedly, the soldiers stationed in the Abyss of Demons, who shed their blood on the battlefield, had no easy task.
Forming a team and traversing the passage between the two worlds is no easy task for adventurers;
Even for a medical mage, choosing to be a magical doctor in a hospital, when the hospital is overcrowded, might not be an easy task.
However, being a magic high school student is generally easy.
Students attend school from 8 am to 6 pm every day, with no evening self-study sessions, full weekends, and no shortage of winter and summer vacations. They don't need to go to war, and their safety is guaranteed.
Even high school seniors are no exception.
After all, as long as academic grades are above average, a mage's focus should be on magic.
Therefore, Lanling Magic High School is naturally deserted on weekends.
But today is different.
Today is the day for a duel between two famous figures among the first-year students of Lanling Magic High School: Wang Yi, the top student of Class 3, Grade 1, and Wu Guan, the top student of Class 1, Grade 1.
Who wouldn't want to hear about the gossip happening around them?
The reason for the duel, in particular, was a cliché love story—an ignorant simp challenging the goddess's god!
It's all about a clear-eyed stupidity.
Although the stands on the playground weren't exactly packed with people, there were still a few dozen students scattered around, some sitting and some standing.
For a class of only twenty-odd first-year high school students, this was already a major event that caused a sensation throughout the grade.
Although the people in the stands did not queue, they were still clearly divided into three groups, roughly according to their classes, as well as a few lone wolves.
At the very top of the stands, a pair of black and white figures stood side by side, one tall and heroic, the other gentle and handsome, attracting the attention of some female students in the front row who would occasionally turn around to glance at them.
"Why did we have to come and join in this fun?" Although Wang Jiang stood up straight, he felt very relaxed inside because it was just too boring.
"Don't you want to care about the soldiers under your command?" Jiang Yue joked.
Wang Jiang trained Wang Yi for a whole week, showing utmost dedication and without holding back. It wouldn't be unreasonable to consider Wang Yi as one of his soldiers.
"Boring." Wang Jiang glanced at his watch. "It's almost eight o'clock, why isn't Wang Yi here yet?"
"We agreed on eight o'clock, and we'll definitely be entering at the last second." Jiang Yue shrugged and added, "Both sides will."
"Naive," the king scoffed.
"You've been teaching Wang Yi for a week, what do you think his chances of winning are?"
Wang frowned slightly: "What percentage? Do you not believe him, or do you not believe me?"
"Of course I believe you, don't be so serious." Jiang Yue shrugged. "You know, I just prefer to do things I'm sure of."
"Unless Wang Yi wants to lose, he's guaranteed to win. And the whole process will be incredibly boring." Wang generously gave Jiang Yue the assurance.
"Even if Wu Guan starts by unleashing a rare-grade spell?"
"Even if Wu Guan starts by casting a rare-grade spell."
"That's good." Jiang Yue breathed a sigh of relief exaggeratedly, his expression affected and slightly over-the-top.
What kind of person do you think Wang Yi is?
Wang thought for a moment: "Before, I was just a ruthless fool who loved to show off, all bark and no bite. Now..."
Reflecting on his time with Wang Yi over the past week, Wang Jiang said, "He's a ruthless, resilient, perceptive, and mentally strong idiot."
"Although the essence hasn't changed, it's been a complete transformation, isn't it?" Jiang Yue said with radiant eyes. "Compared to before, it's like he's a completely different person."
"After all, he has died once, and transformation is most likely to occur between life and death." Wang Jiang nodded, acknowledging Jiang Yue's statement.
"Perhaps," Jiang Yue said noncommittally, only asking, "Do you think he can be our teammate?"
"Their strength is too weak," the king said bluntly.
"But he can now take down Wu Guan, the top student in Class One," Jiang Yue argued.
"Heh." The king glanced at him sideways, expressing his disdain.
It's unclear whether this disdain was directed at Wu Guan, Wang Yi, or Jiang Yue.
"Alright, strength can be improved, but some qualities are innate." Jiang Yue smiled lightly: "Every strong person started out as a weakling."
After a moment of silence, Wang Jiang finally couldn't help but ask, "You asked me to teach Wang Yi because you've discovered Wang Yi's qualities, or do you really just want to relieve Sister Yu's pressure?"
I don't think Sister Yu is the type to care about other teachers gossiping. With Sister Yu's abilities, these rumors are nothing to her.
"Half and half," Jiang Yue said ambiguously, adding, "My sister doesn't care, but I can't not care, and the principal can't not care either. Although the other teachers are talking about my sister, they are ultimately questioning the principal's decision."
My sister is quite strong, but this is China, not the Abyss of Demons. What we have to face here is not monsters, but people's hearts, which is much more complicated and troublesome than monsters. It's not like you can just rush through with strength... unless your strength is strong enough to negate the rules and order of the entire society.
My sister became a homeroom teacher right after graduation. The principal transferred you and me to her class just to get her to achieve some results and gain some seniority. But my sister had a much crazier idea in mind: to subvert the existing rules.
However, this idea is difficult to realize, and it would require her to achieve significant results. It's only been a month since the start of the semester, and we can't just start clearing out the entire school; that wouldn't demonstrate her effectiveness.
However, the combined reputation of the two of us can't offset Wang Yi's terrible performance before. As a homeroom teacher, students' grades are the most important thing. Who would have thought that Wang Yi's negative reputation could be worth ten fans?
Of course, with my sister's incredibly simple-minded nature, she wouldn't understand any of this, and she wouldn't care what others say. But she's young, and doesn't have the power to suppress all criticism, plus the education system isn't like the military; individual ability isn't that important.
At this point, Jiang Yue sighed: "Actually, with her intelligence, she's more suited to be a common soldier, a scout, or even just to charge into battle. The army is where you really only look at strength; there aren't so many shady dealings. It's a pity that my second uncle only has this one precious daughter, and he can't bear to throw her into the army."
"You're just a high school freshman, yet you're thinking about so many things." Wang Jiang sneered, because he didn't understand these things either and felt offended.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yue raised his hand and tapped his temple, his tone full of melancholy: "Wisdom has nothing to do with age. I have no common language with you idiots."
The king mocked, "If only your strength were as impressive as your smooth talk."
Jiang Yue scoffed, "This man is short-sighted and not worth discussing things with."
The king will be patient.
Ultimately, there were too many classmates around and the venue wasn't suitable; otherwise, Wang Jiang guaranteed that Jiang Yue would have already been lying on the ground convulsing before Wu Guan.
