Chapter 91 Rolling Over
The next morning, just as dawn broke.
Ye Xunhuan, with a lollipop in his mouth, grabbed Su Qingyuan's arm and started walking out: "Come on, come with me to check out the venue for the Divine Physician Conference. We can also take a stroll around the capital; I've heard that the candied hawthorns and tripe here are quite famous."
Su Qingyuan was pulled along by him, and said helplessly, "Do you know where the venue is?"
"Of course!" Ye Xunhuan patted his chest, pulled out a smartphone and waved it. "High-tech gadget, a quick navigation search will get you there. Don't worry, follow me, you won't get lost."
Half an hour later.
In the old hutongs of Beijing, the cobblestone paths meandered, flanked by gray-walled courtyard houses. Ye Xunhuan held his phone, his brow furrowed, his fingers tapping the screen, growing increasingly confused with each step.
"Wait a minute, the intersection said to turn left, but why is it a dead end?"
"Is this navigation system broken? Why is the arrow just spinning?"
Su Qingyuan stood behind him, watching him study his phone for ten minutes without leaving the alley. Finally, she couldn't help but ask, "You... don't you know how to use navigation?"
"How could that be!" Ye Xunhuan retorted stubbornly. "I'm scouting the terrain! In case the Chu family tries anything funny, we need to have a backup plan, understand?"
He had barely finished speaking when he turned a corner and crashed head-on into a wall.
Su Qingyuan: "..."
Ye Xunhuan stepped back without changing his expression, put his phone back in his pocket, and said seriously, "Hmm, this way won't work, let's try another route."
They wandered around in circles for two whole hours, and even the vegetable vendor at the alley entrance glanced at them three times. Ye Xunhuan's legs were aching from walking, and he squatted against the wall with a lollipop in his mouth, looking utterly hopeless.
"The roads in this capital are so winding, like intestines," he muttered. "It's better up in the mountains; there's a straight path from one end to the other, and you'll never get lost."
Su Qingyuan was both annoyed and amused. She took out her phone and made a call. In less than ten minutes, the driver arrived in his car.
As he got into the car, Ye Xunhuan still stubbornly insisted, "I was about to find it, but you insisted on calling a car."
Su Qingyuan rolled her eyes at him but didn't expose him.
The car had barely driven out of the alley when a commotion suddenly broke out on the roadside.
An old man carrying a shopping basket collapsed to the ground, clutching his chest. His face was bluish-purple and his lips were turning blue. A crowd of people surrounded him, shouting, "His old ailment has flared up again!" and "Call an ambulance!" But no one dared to touch him.
Just as the driver was about to slow down and go around, Ye Xunhuan suddenly spoke up: "Stop the car."
He pushed open the car door, jumped out, squeezed into the crowd with a lollipop in his mouth, squatted down, glanced at the old man, and pulled out a few silver needles from his pocket without saying a word.
"Move aside, you're blocking the light."
Those around him were taken aback. Seeing that he was so young, yet still had a lollipop in his mouth and acted so nonchalantly, they were all a little suspicious.
"Young man, are you sure you're okay? This is a heart attack, you can't delay!"
"Exactly, don't treat it haphazardly. Can you afford the consequences if something goes wrong?"
Ye Xunhuan ignored him, his fingertips holding the silver needle, and flicked his wrist.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh—"
Three silver needles were precisely inserted into three major acupoints on the old man's chest, so fast that only afterimages remained.
He twirled the silver needles between his fingers, and in just over ten seconds, the old man suddenly groaned, let out a long breath, and his bluish-purple complexion visibly improved.
Half a minute later, the old man actually sat up on his own, supporting himself on the ground. He touched his chest, looking bewildered: "I...I'm all better now?"
The surroundings fell silent instantly.
Everyone stared at Ye Xunhuan with wide eyes, as if he were a god.
This was a potentially fatal heart attack, and a few needle pricks and it was all over? That's incredible!
"Young man, which hospital do you work for? You're amazing!"
"A miracle doctor! He's practically a divine healer descended to earth!"
The old man also held Ye Xunhuan's hand, thanking him repeatedly and trying to give him money.
Ye Xunhuan waved his hand, put away the silver needles, and casually asked, "Which way is the venue for the Divine Physician Conference?"
The old man quickly gave him directions, explaining everything clearly.
Ye Xunhuan nodded, turned around and got into the car, waving his hand: "Thanks, see you later."
The car drove away, but the people on the roadside were still talking about it, all wondering who this young miracle doctor was.
In the car, Su Qingyuan looked at him and said, "Weren't you afraid of getting into trouble just now?"
"Just one life, nothing more than a trivial matter," Ye Xunhuan said casually, unwrapping a candy. "Besides, anyone daring to have someone die in front of me, did they even ask the needle in my hand?"
His tone was light and airy, yet it carried an indescribable air of confidence.
Su Qingyuan looked at his profile, and her heart skipped a beat for no reason.
After another twenty minutes of driving, the car finally stopped in front of the registration point for the Divine Doctor Conference.
This is an impressive three-story medical clinic with upturned eaves and a vermilion gate. A gold-plated plaque reading "Chu Family Medical Clinic" hangs above the entrance. Two tables are set up at the entrance, where two Chu family disciples dressed in short blue jackets sit and are in charge of registration.
Ye Xunhuan pushed open the car door, a lollipop dangling from his mouth, and walked over. He casually picked up the registration form on the table, filled it out in a couple of quick strokes, and handed it over: "Register for the Divine Doctor Conference."
The tall, thin disciple on the left lazily took the form, glanced at the name, and then looked up to sized up Ye Xunhuan.
Seeing that he was dressed plainly, had a lollipop in his mouth, and acted nonchalantly, with a stunningly beautiful woman beside him, the disciple's eyes immediately revealed a hint of disdain and jealousy.
When he looked again at the place of origin column, which read "Jiangcheng", he suddenly seemed to remember something and chuckled.
"Ye Xunhuan? From Jiangcheng?" He held the application form in his hand, shook it, and said in a sarcastic tone, "So you're that live-in son-in-law of the Su family? You've come all the way to the capital to live off your wife?"
Another short, stout disciple also came over for a look and immediately chuckled: "Oh! Is that the quack doctor who married into the family in the rumors? I was wondering why he was dressed so poorly and had a candy in his mouth, acting like he hadn't grown up yet."
The tall, thin man chuckled and loosened his grip.
"Clatter".
The completed registration form fell to the ground, and he even lifted his foot and stomped on it twice, instantly making the paper crumpled and covered in dust.
"You think you're worthy to participate in the Divine Physician Conference hosted by the Chu family?"
The tall, thin man crossed his arms, glanced at Ye Xunhuan sideways, and spoke with utter disdain.
"A country bumpkin quack dares to embarrass himself in the capital? Get out of here! Don't defile this place and affect other renowned doctors' applications!"
The short, stout disciple joined in the commotion, reaching out to shove Ye Xunhuan: "Didn't you hear me? Get out of here! If you don't leave, don't blame us for being impolite!"
Su Qingyuan's face turned cold, and she took a step forward to speak.
A hand gently rested on her shoulder.
Ye Xunhuan, with a lollipop in his mouth, slowly took a step forward.
He still had a smile on his face, his lips curved, and he looked harmless.
Only the fingertips resting on Su Qingyuan's shoulder tightened slightly.
He glanced down at the trampled registration form on the ground, then looked up at the two Chu family disciples, slowly twirling the candy stick in his mouth.
"You just said...who was rolling over?"
