From humble beginnings to the pinnacle of life
Chapter 189 Shopping
I stared at her, my brow furrowing. "You're still feeling weak. Are you sure you really want to go for a walk?"
Su Qing gritted her teeth and forced herself to sit up in bed.
He deliberately put on a cheerful expression and waved his hand.
"Let's go, let's stop talking nonsense. We've come all this way to Lhasa, and if we're just going to stay in the hotel and lie around, what's the point of all this trip?"
A wave of helplessness washed over me, and I sighed inwardly.
That's Su Qing for you, she'll always be the same.
Even if you feel terribly unwell, you can't suppress your playful and adventurous spirit.
But I couldn't shake my worry, so I asked again, "Are you really okay? Does your stomach still hurt?"
"It doesn't hurt anymore! I just had diarrhea and was exhausted, so I'm a little weak. It's not as serious as you think."
Hearing her say that, I finally felt a little relieved.
On second thought, going out for a walk and getting some fresh air might actually make her feel better.
And so, we walked out of the guesthouse together and strolled leisurely along the stone-paved streets of Barkhor Street.
The entire old street retains the most original features of Lhasa. The stone slabs underfoot have been polished smooth and warm by countless pedestrians over the years.
Rows of old-style Tibetan houses stand side by side along the road, simple and dignified.
A huge incense burner stands in the center of the street, with wisps of incense slowly rising and a faint aroma of smoke lingering in the air.
The shops on both sides of the street are lined up one after another, and it is very lively with people coming and going.
Locals dressed in Tibetan costumes can be seen everywhere, as well as tourists from all over the country. It's bustling yet full of life.
Su Qing and I walked slowly side by side. After a while, she suddenly grabbed my arm and pulled me into a small shop selling Tibetan-style ornaments.
The counter was filled with all sorts of dazzling items, each carrying a rich and unique Tibetan style.
Upon seeing these pretty little gadgets, Su Qing's previously tired spirits instantly lifted considerably.
Her eyes were bright and sparkling as she leaned over the counter, picking and choosing, looking at this and that with obvious delight.
Just then, my gaze inadvertently swept to the other side of the counter.
Three or four boys, who looked to be around high school age, were crowded in front of the beaded jewelry counter, busily picking out gifts for one of their girlfriends.
One of the boys muttered in a low voice, "Can you hurry up and choose? So many people have come with you to skip evening self-study, stop dawdling."
Upon hearing this, I was taken aback, and a strange sense of emotion welled up inside me.
How wonderful, this is the unbridled spirit of youth.
I looked away and started browsing around the shop.
As I walked, a beautifully crafted red handmade scarf caught my eye.
Almost subconsciously, the image of Su Qing wearing it immediately popped into my mind.
I'm pretty sure this scarf will look great on her.
While she was still engrossed in picking out accessories at the counter, I called the shop owner over, bought the scarf, put it in a bag, and quietly carried it in my hand.
When I walked over to her with the bag, she was still struggling with her decision, comparing the two pieces of jewelry back and forth, unable to make up her mind.
"You've been looking for so long, and you still haven't made a choice?" I walked up to her and asked.
Su Qing looked up and glanced at me, her lips slightly pursed: "There are too many beautiful things, I want them all, what do you suggest?"
I was amused by her and joked, "Why don't you just be generous and buy the whole store outright?"
She quickly shook her head like a rattle-drum: "That's not the case. Buying too many things and seeing too many will just lead to aesthetic fatigue."
As she spoke, she picked up a string of wooden beads and hung it around her neck.
With her other hand, she picked up a pendant made from the same type of wood and turned to look at me.
"Take a look, don't you think these two look good together?"
I couldn't help but be a little surprised: "I didn't expect you to like this style?"
"Hey, stop changing the subject and just tell me if it looks good or not."
"They look nice. Shall we buy these two?"
She turned around in front of the mirror a few more times, scrutinizing herself for a while, before nodding in satisfaction and turning to the cashier to pay.
We walked out of the jewelry store one after the other. I was clutching the bag containing the scarf, ready to take out the gift and hand it to her.
Unexpectedly, Su Qing was faster than me, and handed me the wooden pendant she had just bought.
"Here, this is for you."
"Give it to me?"
I stood there, stunned, completely taken aback.
"Yeah, do you like it?" Su Qing blinked.
I couldn't help but laugh: "Why did you suddenly decide to give me a gift?"
"It's for your safety." She explained to me in a serious tone, "We're heading into the no-man's-land in a few days. Hang it on the car and let it protect us on our journey."
After hearing her words, I felt a warmth in my heart. So that was what she was planning.
I reached out and took the heavy wooden pendant, saying solemnly, "Alright, I'll accept this token of my appreciation. I hope it will truly protect us and ensure a smooth journey."
"There's definitely no problem!" Su Qing said confidently.
As soon as she finished speaking, her gaze fell on the shopping bag I was carrying.
She tilted her head curiously: "Hey? You just bought something too? What's in your bag?"
I handed the bag directly to her: "Open it and take a look."
Su Qing took the bag with a puzzled look, glanced inside, and her eyes lit up instantly.
She reached out and took out the bright red scarf, looking at me with a puzzled expression:
"Why did you buy a red scarf? You're a grown man, do you like red? I really didn't see that coming."
"Don't worry about whether I like it or not, just try it on and see if it looks good on you," I said with a smile.
Su Qing didn't refuse and immediately raised her hand to wrap the scarf around her slender neck.
The moment she looked up, my breath caught in my throat.
Today she wore a neat bun hairstyle, paired with this vibrant red scarf.
When she stands on the side of the street, the passersby all seem to become her background.
"Does it look good?" Su Qing asked softly, a hint of uncertainty in her voice.
I nodded vigorously, immediately took out my phone, pointed it at her, and pressed the shutter to take a picture.
Su Qing has never had any idol baggage.
Even though her body had not fully recovered, she still went out without makeup.
But as soon as the camera is pointed at her, she immediately radiates energy.
After taking the photos, I handed my phone to her and said, "Take a look at the results for yourself."
Su Qing leaned closer to the screen, her eyes crinkling as she smiled happily, nodding repeatedly.
Wow, that's amazing! Even though I'm sick now, I'm still incredibly good-looking.
