From humble beginnings to the pinnacle of life
Chapter 329 A Serious Question
Seeing her cautious, mischievous look, as if she was secretly planning to "break the rules," I couldn't help but chuckle.
"I think I've figured it out. When you were in school, you were definitely the most mischievous and restless student in the class."
Su Qing not only didn't deny it, but also proudly raised her chin, saying smugly, "Of course! How did you figure it out at a glance?"
I smiled without saying a word, my heart filled with doting affection.
This girl looks gentle and quiet, but she is exceptionally lively and mischievous at heart. She must have done a lot of naughty things since she was a child.
Despite her lively and playful nature, she easily gained admission to Fudan University, and her older sister was even recommended to Tsinghua University.
Sometimes I really marvel at what an amazing family they are.
The two sisters are exceptionally beautiful, come from wealthy families, and possess intelligence that surpasses that of ordinary people; they excel in everything they do.
I really can't understand which window God closed for them.
After paying the hospital deposit, we successfully completed the admission procedures and went to the inpatient department to meet with Dr. Su Qing's attending physician.
The doctor was very responsible and explained all the preoperative contraindications, dietary requirements, and daily routines to us in detail.
Then, the list of examinations that needed to be completed in the next two days was presented, along with instructions on the need for pre-operative intravenous infusions to prepare the body and ensure a smooth procedure.
Upon hearing the words "IV drip," Su Qing's complexion, which had just improved, instantly fell again.
Even though she was scared, she didn't resist or act recklessly. She obediently followed me into the ward and sat quietly by the bed waiting for the nurse to come and administer the IV.
I sat beside her the whole time, holding her hand tightly. I could clearly feel that her muscles were taut and she was in a state of high tension.
To help her completely relax, I deliberately started chatting about lighthearted topics:
"You were such a troublemaker in school, how did you even get into Fudan University? Share some of your academic success tips with me so I can benefit from it too."
Su Qing rolled her eyes at me and said irritably, "What time is it? You still have the mind to ask these things?"
"We were just chatting casually, but I really think you're amazing." I smiled sheepishly and offered my sincere praise.
She was most susceptible to praise, and instantly became interested, raising her little face proudly as she said:
"That's for sure! I don't need to memorize anything; I can pass the exam with just a little study. It's talent; you can't learn it even if you envy me."
I touched the tip of my nose and joked with a smile, "That would be wonderful. I hope our future children will perfectly inherit your intelligence and be as smart and outstanding as you."
Su Qing chuckled: "You're already planning for a child? Who told you I was going to have a child with you?"
I teased her, saying, "If you don't have children with me, who else can you have them with?"
She immediately pouted and retorted earnestly, "I don't want children! I'm still a child myself, carefree and without worries. How could I possibly be a mother and take care of a child?"
"I was just saying it casually, I'm not asking you to have the baby now."
But at this moment, Su Qing suddenly stopped all her playfulness and her expression became extremely serious.
She looked up at me intently and asked softly, "Lin Ye, I have a serious question for you."
"Hmm?" I looked at her in confusion, wondering what this girl had remembered again.
Her expression remained serious as she asked, "If—and I mean if—I never wanted children in my life, how would you feel? Would you mind?"
Su Qing's sudden question left me speechless.
To be honest, I had never seriously thought about being childless or having children before.
In my understanding from childhood, the trajectory of life has always been predetermined.
Marriage, children, and a stable life—this is the most ordinary and fulfilling destiny for most people.
I'm not a stubborn or conservative person, and I've seen a lot about the lifestyles of young people today.
More and more people are choosing to be childless and live a life of just the two of them, while many others only date and do not get married.
I understand this way of life; everyone has the right to choose their own path in life.
But if it came down to me, I probably couldn't do it.
Perhaps it's my inherent traditional values, but I've always felt that a stable and lasting love ultimately needs some kind of bond.
Children are never tools for carrying on the family line or inheriting the family business.
Rather, it is the lingering thoughts left behind by two people who truly love each other and go their separate ways; it is the most vibrant crystallization of love.
Of course, I am also very clear in my heart that if there is not enough sincere love and genuine trust between each other, then there is no need to force the creation of a new life.
As I was pondering how to answer Su Qing, I suddenly heard the soft sound of a cart wheel outside the ward door.
A nurse pushed a medical cart in, on which were neatly arranged IV bags, needles, disinfectant wipes, and other equipment.
Su Qing, who had been chatting with me, tensed up instantly when her eyes fell on the gleaming medical equipment.
This was a timidity ingrained in her bones. She immediately turned her head away, avoiding eye contact, and even her breathing became soft, her whole body radiating tension.
The nurses skillfully checked the names and medical records, their movements professional and efficient, preparing the infusion supplies in an orderly manner.
I was afraid she would become more frightened the more she looked, so I quickly took the initiative to change the subject and started chatting softly:
"By the way, after your surgery and full recovery, I'm planning to take you on a trip along the Terra Line. Are you interested?"
"Terra Line?"
Su Qing's attention was immediately diverted, and she said with surprise, "Is that the one that's been all over the outdoor community lately, the one touted as one of the top high-risk hiking routes in China?"
I nodded slightly: "Yes, I've taken the time these past two days to carefully study the route guide and weather conditions. It is indeed difficult, but it's worth a try. We can livestream the whole thing, which will be a powerful way to put an end to the previous public opinion."
Su Qing answered almost without hesitation, "Yes! Of course I'll go! Will it just be the two of us?"
"Yes, just the two of us." I nodded.
She pondered for two seconds, then frowned slightly and said, "But I remember that route is now off-limits to private individuals, right? If we sneak off and even livestream it, wouldn't that be against the rules, wouldn't it be inappropriate?"
"I don't plan to go secretly. I'm already going through the formal application process, but everyone online says that the approval process is very difficult, and I'm not entirely sure if I can get it approved smoothly."
While we were chatting, the nurse had already completed all the preparations and performed the puncture with extremely gentle movements.
She put away the extra equipment and gently reminded, "Okay, after these three sets of IV drips are finished, rest for half an hour. There is still one routine preoperative examination to be done."
It was only then that Su Qing suddenly came to her senses.
She looked down at the needle firmly fixed in the back of her hand, her face filled with disbelief: "That's it? That's it? I didn't feel a thing!"
Seeing her delighted expression, I chuckled and said, "Isn't it best if it doesn't hurt? You're terrified of injections and IV drips, so this is just what you wanted."
Su Qing instantly relaxed, looking up at the nurse and sincerely thanking her, "Nurse, your technique is amazing! I couldn't feel any pain at all. Thank you so much!"
The nurse looked up upon hearing this, and her normally professional and calm expression suddenly froze the moment she saw my face.
A flash of shock crossed her eyes, and she exclaimed excitedly, "You...you're that outdoor blogger who's recently become incredibly popular?!"
