From humble beginnings to the pinnacle of life

I was completely convinced, but just then, a traffic police car suddenly drove up, waved at me, and signaled me to pull over.

I was stunned on the spot, but Su Qing hadn't noticed anything was wrong and was still excitedly shouting behind me:

"Faster, faster! This is so relaxing!"

I quickly reminded them, "Stop shouting, calm down, the traffic police are watching us."

Su Qing finally calmed down and turned to look at the police car next to her.

"Seriously? There were no cars on this road. When did the traffic police arrive?"

I didn't have time to explain to her, so I obediently slowed down and parked the electric scooter steadily on the side of the road.

The police car came to a stop, and two traffic police officers got out and walked towards us with serious expressions.

Su Qing and I immediately lowered our heads and shrank our shoulders, like two elementary school students who had done something wrong, standing obediently without daring to move.

"What's wrong with you two young people? Do you know how dangerous it was to ride your bike like that? You were swerving and speeding on the road, playing with your own safety!"

The traffic police officer began to criticize him seriously, his tone full of severity.

I was mortified and quickly put on a smile, apologizing, "I'm so sorry, officer. We were just being silly. We promise we won't do it again!"

The traffic police officer probably saw that I had a good attitude and that it was an electric bike, so he raised his hand to prepare to issue a ticket and a warning.

Seeing this, Su Qing panicked instantly, immediately stepped forward, clasped her hands together, and pitifully begged for mercy:

"Officer, please, please don't give us a ticket! We really know we were wrong, and we'll never do anything like this again!"

"How old are you? You're still acting like a spoiled teenager. You won't learn your lesson unless you're punished!" The traffic police officer remained firm in his stance.

Seeing the ticket about to be issued, Su Qing immediately switched to acting mode, her eyes instantly reddening, and her tone pitiful:

"It's really my fault. I was just being playful and made him shake the car. It has nothing to do with him!"

"We're just ordinary workers, earning money is really hard for us. He's usually very reliable and never rides his bike illegally, but today I led him astray... Officer, we really know we were wrong and repent!"

As she spoke, she actually squeezed out a few tears, adding with a pitiful expression:

"Besides... my boyfriend is really honest, please, please be lenient this time and let us go!"

I was shocked by what she said. This girl really just blurted it out without hesitation, immediately assuming I was her boyfriend!

But the traffic police still issued me a ticket, handed it to me, and said with a serious expression:

"A ticket will be issued, but since this is your first time, I'll give you a warning! If there's a next time, it won't be a warning!"

I quickly accepted the ticket with both hands, my attitude extremely respectful: "Thank you for the reminder, officer. We will definitely keep it in mind and ride properly from now on, never violating the rules again!"

Su Qing's expression immediately changed. She instantly dropped her aggrieved look, smiled, bowed, and thanked him, "Thank you, Uncle! We won't misbehave anymore!"

Upon seeing this, the two traffic police officers gave a few words of advice, then turned and got into their car and left.

Su Qing immediately returned to normal, turned her head and playfully stuck out her tongue at me, and even made a smug face, as if showing off her amazing move.

I stared at her, both amused and exasperated, and said helplessly, "What nonsense were you spouting to the traffic cop? Who's your boyfriend?"

"It was just a made-up excuse, and you actually took it seriously?"

Su Qing waved her hand dismissively, turned around, and climbed back onto the back of the electric scooter.

Looking at her nonchalant expression, I was both annoyed and amused: "I'm not taking it seriously, but you just casually labeled me your boyfriend, at least asked my opinion, right?"

She glanced at me lazily, with a hint of smugness and impatience: "Oh dear, I was clearly trying to help you out! Otherwise, you would have gotten a ticket. I was so clever in saving you money, and instead of thanking me, you dare to argue?"

I was instantly rendered speechless by her retort, unable to utter a single word, and could only shake my head and smile wryly in resignation.

This girl always has a point, and she comes up with one ridiculous argument after another.

I lifted my feet to brace myself, sat back down, started the electric scooter, and slowly drove forward.

The car slowed down, and a gentle evening breeze blew in, sweeping away the night's heat and calming the restlessness from the earlier commotion.

But it really gave me a sense of disorientation, as if she and I were really a couple.

One evening after I finished working overtime, I rode my electric scooter with her to find a place to eat.

Simple, yet incredibly soothing.

To be honest, Su Qing, a young lady who has been pampered since childhood, should be used to riding in luxury cars, but tonight she rode in my cheap electric scooter the whole way, bumping and being exposed to the wind, but she didn't complain at all.

He's still sharp-tongued, but his actions tell a different story.

After a bumpy ride of more than twenty minutes, we finally arrived at our destination.

This is a hidden gem of a barbecue restaurant, not located on a busy street, and without any eye-catching sign. Very few people know about it.

It was on the rooftop of a self-built house in an urban village.

After I parked the electric scooter, Su Qing jumped off first and subconsciously looked around.

The area was surrounded by densely packed old houses, with narrow alleys and mottled walls, making it look nothing like a restaurant.

She looked at me blankly, her brows furrowed slightly. "Weren't you going to take me out to eat? There aren't any restaurants in this dump! You're not deliberately trying to scam me, are you?"

I pointed to the rooftop above, gesturing for her to look up.

Su Qing looked up and was even more confused: "Why are you looking at the sky? Lin Ye, are you serious? You're not just teasing me!"

I was too lazy to explain to her, so I turned around and went into a small shop next door and bought two lollipops.

Seeing this, Su Qing asked, puzzled, "Why are you selling lollipops? I don't eat these."

I rolled my eyes at her and said, "Who told you I bought it for you?"

Su Qing pouted and said disdainfully, "Aren't you ashamed to eat this, you're a grown man?"

I was speechless. I didn't argue with her anymore and walked into the stairwell.

"Stop talking nonsense, just follow me."

Su Qing stood there and muttered a couple of things under her breath, probably complaining that I was being deliberately mysterious.

But the dark and unfamiliar alleyway made her afraid to linger alone, so she could only obediently take small, quick steps to catch up.

This old-fashioned self-built house doesn't even have motion-activated lights. The hallways are dimly lit, the steps are old, and the walls are covered with densely packed posters for things like unclogging drains, unlocking locks, and renting rooms. It looks messy.

Before we'd gone two flights of stairs, Su Qing couldn't help but tug at my sleeve, her tone tinged with wariness:

"Wait a minute! Something's not right here. You're not up to no good, are you? Where am I?"

I turned around and teased, "What? Scared now? Weren't you pretty bold when you were fooling around on the street? Now you're afraid I'll sell you off?"

"Don't change the subject!" She glared at me. "This place is creepy and doesn't look right. I seriously suspect you're up to no good."

I smiled helplessly and explained in a gentle tone, "What are you thinking? The restaurant is on the rooftop. Just follow me up and you'll see. Don't be so paranoid."

"Can there really be a proper restaurant in this old, dilapidated building?" Su Qing still looked doubtful and unconvinced.

"Come if you believe me, or wait downstairs if you don't." I didn't explain further and turned to continue walking upstairs.
