Chapter 216 Helping to repel the enemy, Kumu leaves!
The Heluo Fang family is located in a river valley on the edge of the desert.
It's called a valley, but it's actually a flat area formed at the bend of a semi-dried riverbed.
The terrain is lower than the surrounding area, and it is sheltered from the wind by low mountains on all sides, giving it a more vibrant feel than other places.
When Luo Tian followed the woman to the edge of the valley, he could see the commotion below from afar.
Below, figures overlapped, and the glint of swords and magic flickered in the rising dust.
There should have been traces of defensive formations around the Fang family's residence, but the light barrier of the formations has now completely disappeared.
Only a ring of broken base remains, buried in the soil beneath the wall, as if destroyed from the inside.
"The protective formation has been breached?"
The woman's voice was strained, and her face was pale.
Luo Tian did not respond. He hovered in the air at the edge of the valley, his gaze sweeping across the entire battlefield.
The Fang family members were retreating rapidly, and nearly half of the people lying on the ground were from the Fang family.
There were many people on the other side, and the attackers were pressing in from three directions at the same time. The group at the front had almost pushed to the gate of the mansion.
The woman couldn't wait any longer and rushed into the battlefield as soon as she landed.
Her injury hadn't fully healed yet; the small, closed wound still had a light pink tinge, but she didn't care.
After rushing into the crowd, he pushed aside a cultivator who was besieging the Fang family elder with a palm strike, snatched the man's sword, and blocked the next blow with his backhand.
As she parried, she shouted towards the rear of the formation:
"Fang Ming! What have you done?!"
A slender figure in the crowd behind the lines paused for a moment, but did not turn around.
At the main gate of the Fang family compound, an elderly man with gray hair was single-handedly blocking the attack of three cultivators.
His cultivation level was around the early Mahayana stage, and his movements were already disjointed. Several times when he was forced back, his calves were trembling.
Each time he retreated, he bumped into the threshold behind him, and the gash on his knee was getting deeper and deeper.
Luo Tian hovered in mid-air, quietly observing.
His gaze moved slowly across the battlefield, lingering briefly at each spot before moving on to the next.
Niannian landed behind him and stood next to him, craning her neck to look down:
"Dad, there are so many of them! Shouldn't we go up and help?"
"Wait a little longer."
Niannian pulled her head back and glanced at the battlefield again.
Several more players from the Fang family fell, and the opposing team had already pushed past the center line.
She rubbed her hands together and asked, "So when are we going to go on?"
Luo Tian turned his head to look at her, then nodded.
Niannian gave a sweet smile, then rushed downstairs.
She landed on the battlefield from the air, and with her small hands, she first patted the chest of the first cultivator who rushed over, knocking him back three steps.
Then, he sidestepped the slash from the right, and with his other hand, he reached up from below and chopped the man's wrist with a hand chop.
The blade flew out of his hand, bounced off, and stuck into the ground, wobbling incessantly.
She landed on a slightly elevated spot, her palms facing down on the ground.
Emerald green light seeped from her fingertips into the soil, then spread out beneath the surface along the edge of the Fang family's defensive line.
The bleeding from the edges of the wounds of the injured Fang family disciples slowed down after being affected by the green light.
They are slowly closing together, as if a layer of extremely fine thread is stitching them together from the inside.
After landing, Xiao Jin didn't act immediately; instead, he dusted himself off.
Then, he used the back of his hand to deflect a cultivator's blade, sidestepped, and pushed the cultivator's lower back, sending him to the sword of a Fang family disciple nearby.
Luo Nannan cut in from the other side, without using the Phoenix Flame, relying only on speed and strength to open up gaps in the encirclement one by one.
Qiqi squatted at the broken section of the Fang family's courtyard wall and pulled a cultivator who was trying to ambush her from behind into the ground.
A yellowish-brown light seeped from the gravel beneath her feet, and the cultivator's ankle was immobilized by the gravel.
Qianqian stood at the back, and the silvery-white light slowly spread out like a spider web, confusing the sense of direction of the people at the rear of the enemy formation.
Luo Tian's gaze fell on the white-haired old man in the center of the battlefield, who remained motionless.
Niannian pushed her way forward through the crowd, moving at an incredible speed, like a line gliding across water, without stopping.
Her fighting style was very casual. When she saw someone coming at her, she would just sidestep and dodge. When she saw someone surrounded, she would casually slap one away. Occasionally, she would pat someone on the back and send them to the Fang family.
"Stop always hitting head-on, just sideways a bit and you'll be able to hit it!"
She squeezed between the two people as she spoke, without turning her head.
Among the cultivators besieging the Fang family, some noticed that her line was advancing rapidly and began to split up to intercept her.
Two cultivators at the mid-stage of Mahayana Buddhism simultaneously surrounded her from both sides, attempting to trap her in the middle.
Instead of colliding head-on, at the last moment before they met, Niannian suddenly crouched down and emerged from the side.
The two bumped into each other, each staggering half a step before regaining their balance.
"You reacted pretty quickly!"
Niannian glanced back at them, then slashed horizontally from below with her hand, striking one of the men's hands and causing his weapon to drop half an inch.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Nian Nian squeezed through the gap between them and continued pushing forward.
The two Mahayana stage cultivators were briefly broken when a child of about ten years old cut through them head-on.
During their brief hesitation, the Fang family quickly seized the opportunity to try and pull their previously pushed-back lines back to their original positions.
Just then, a loud shout came from the rear of the opposing formation: "Stop!"
The sound, imbued with spiritual power, reverberated across the valley.
The actions on the battlefield were a beat slower; some people stopped what they were doing.
A middle-aged man in a dark purple robe emerged from behind the enemy lines.
After he stopped, he didn't look at the Fang family. Instead, his gaze fell on the direction of Nian Nian and Xiao Jin, and then he looked up at the floating figure at the edge of the valley.
He spoke up: "Gentlemen, our matter with the Fang family is a personal grudge."
"You're helping them fight this battle, but in the end, it won't do you any good."
He paused for a moment, then continued, "We are backed by the Tianyuan Sect."
Luo Tian did not respond. His gaze swept over the middle-aged man's face and then slowly moved away.
His expression didn't even change; it was as if he had heard something insignificant and didn't take it to heart at all.
Niannian ran back and stood not far from the middle-aged man, looking up at him:
"Tianyuan Sect? Is it that powerful?"
The middle-aged man was surprised by her question:
"...One of the ten major sects in the southeastern region of the cultivation world."
Niannian turned to look at Luo Tian: "Dad, he said the Tianyuan Sect is very big, did you hear that?"
"I heard you!" Luo Tian nodded calmly.
Niannian turned back again, nodded her little head, and said in a childish voice, "Then you guys are pretty amazing."
The middle-aged man's expression softened slightly.
"But... my father is the sect leader of the Battle God Sect, and I'm the little princess of the Battle God Sect. Who's stronger than whom?"
The middle-aged man's expression froze after Xiao Nian Nian uttered her next sentence.
His lips moved slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but he didn't say anything and silently turned around and retreated back into the group.
The withered tree venerable descended from the edge of the valley. He crossed the edge of the battlefield, stopped beside Luo Tian, paused for a moment on the retreating figures, and then looked away.
"Sect Master, I have a request."
His voice was not loud, as if he had been thinking for a while before speaking.
"I still have family descendants in this cultivation world, and I want to go back and take a look."
Luo Tian looked at him carefully, his expression not changing much:
"Can!"
He took out a communication jade talisman from his storage ring and handed it over, saying solemnly:
"If you encounter any problems you can't solve, contact me through this."
Venerable Kumu took the jade talisman, weighed it in his hand, and then put it into his robes.
He glanced in Niannian's direction again, then looked away after a moment. Without saying goodbye, he turned and walked in the opposite direction from the valley.
When Niannian ran back from the battlefield, she saw his figure receding into the distance, and she paused for a moment in surprise:
"Why did Grandpa Kumu leave?"
"He wants to go back to see his people."
After thinking for a moment, she didn't ask any more questions, but her gaze lingered for a moment longer in the direction where Venerable Kumu had gone before she looked away.
Just as the battle was about to end, a person appeared in the sky.
Without any warning or fluctuation of spiritual energy, he appeared in the sky above the battlefield.
He wore a gray robe without any markings, had an ordinary face, and his age was impossible to tell.
He hovered above the valley, right in the center of the battlefield.
He didn't look at the people from Tianyuan Sect, nor at the Fang family. His gaze fell directly on the direction of Niannian, stopping along that line and not moving any further.
Niannian stood at the edge of the battlefield. She had just brushed the dust off her hands when she felt a gaze fall on her from above. She looked up and saw the person.
The distance between them was about fifty feet, and she could see his eyes were watching her with a hint of scrutiny.
A moment later, the gaze did not move away, remaining fixed above her.
Luo Tian slowly straightened up at the edge of the valley, his gaze lingering between Nian Nian and the gray-robed figure in the air for a moment before he looked up.
The figure finally spoke, his voice carrying an undeniable authority:
"Who are you people? I advise you all to stay out of this mess, lest you bring utter destruction upon yourselves and your sect!"
Luo Tian chuckled, his tone devoid of any emotion.
"You're not qualified to say such things, and neither are the forces behind you!"
