Lin Zhilan rushed to the hospital as soon as she got off the train, without even having time to wash up.

Deng Jing then realized what was happening and took her home directly.

When Lin Zhilan came out of the shower, Deng Jing had already cooked noodles for her, with two poached eggs on top.

Lin Zhilan dried her hair with a towel while looking around the room. "Where are Peipei and Yaoyao? Why aren't they here?"

Deng Jing shook her head, her voice hoarse, "I sent them to my maternal grandmother's house."

Lin Zhilan understood, sat down to eat her noodles, and suddenly realized, "Second sister-in-law, have you eaten yet?"

I have no appetite.

Lin Zhilan frowned, took a bowl from the kitchen cabinet, and said, "Have some with me. I can't finish all this by myself."

Deng Jing really had no appetite.

Lin Zhilan reminded her, "If you collapse, what will happen to your second brother and the two children?"

Deng Jing remained silent for a moment before reluctantly finishing the small bowl of noodles.

After finishing her meal, Deng Jing wanted to go to the hospital to stay with her.

Lin Zhilan stopped her, "Second brother won't wake up for the time being, so you should stay home and rest with me."

"But……"

Lin Zhilan looked at her, "Second sister-in-law, do you believe me?"

Deng Jing nodded, her eyes blurry with tears, "I believe you, I believe you."

"That's good. Now our task is to get some rest and visit Second Brother tomorrow morning."

Even when Su Jue was unconscious, someone was watching over him. Lin Zhilan felt that Deng Jing needed more care at this moment.

While Deng Jing was taking a shower, Lin Zhilan went to the post office and made a phone call to Su Lang's workplace.

The phone is on.

"Zhilan, have you arrived in the capital?"

Lin Zhilan held the phone cord. "We've arrived. I went to the hospital to see my second brother, and his condition is indeed not good."

Su Lang asked in a deep voice, "Is there any danger to his life?"

Lin Zhilan shook her head. "No, but there will definitely be aftereffects that may affect his lifespan and quality of life. However, he hasn't woken up yet, so it's hard to say how well he will recover."

Su Lang was silent for a moment, then said, "I'll ask for leave now and go to the capital."

"Never mind," Lin Zhilan said, "Second Brother has someone to take care of him, I'll just stay with Second Sister-in-law. You should stay home and take good care of the child. Has Su Li caused any trouble while I'm gone?"

How could they not make a fuss?

Su Li has been cared for by many people since birth, and Lin Zhilan has not interfered much.

But she is still her mother. Although Su Li doesn't cling to her, she still searches everywhere for her when she goes missing.

I've been crying myself to sleep these past few nights.

The couple exchanged a few words about the child, and Lin Zhilan, seeing that it was getting late and worried that Deng Jing wouldn't be able to find her after taking a shower, quickly hung up the phone and went back.

When Su Lang got home from get off work, Jiang Chengzhou and Linlin were doing their homework at home, while Su Li sat next to them, doodling on a piece of paper with a pencil.

Seeing her father return, Su Li quickly slid off the stool, ran over, and hugged his leg, "Daddy!"

Su Lang picked him up and held him in her arms, then walked to the chair where he had been sitting and sat down.

Linlin put down her pen and walked over, her brow slightly furrowed. "Daddy, why isn't Mommy back yet?"

Su Lang patted her daughter's head. "Mom is away on a business trip and won't be back for a few more days."

Linlin pouted, looking somewhat unhappy.

Su Lang comforted her, "Daddy will take you to call Mommy tomorrow, okay?"

Linlin reluctantly nodded.

"Let's go!" Su Li pointed outside.

Su Lang looked at him coldly, "Where are you going?"

"Walk!"

Su Li currently has a very limited vocabulary, but he is stubborn and keeps insisting on going out.

Su Lang was still thinking about his second brother, so he put him on the ground. Su Li took off running, but tripped and fell before he even reached the door.

No one came to help him. He paused for a moment, glanced in the direction of his father and older siblings, and then opened his mouth wide and started to cry.

Su Lang shook his head at the two children and mouthed, "Ignore him."

Seeing that no one was paying attention to him, Su Li cried even louder.

Su Lang seemed to only hear him then, and asked, "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"

Su Li slapped the ground.

"You fell?" Su Lang said, "Come here and let Dad take a look."

Su Li used her hands to push herself up from the ground and patted her knees to signal her father to look.

Su Lang rubbed his knee. "Alright, it's okay. Go play."

Su Li nodded, insisting on squeezing in between her older brother and sister to sit.

Linlin patted her younger brother's head. This time, Jiang Chengzhou didn't take him away, afraid that he would cry again.

Lin Zhilan gave Su Jue acupuncture for three consecutive days before Su Jue finally regained consciousness.

Deng Jing cried for a long time by the bedside. Su Jue placed his hand on hers, his eyes filled with heartache. "Don't cry, I'm fine, aren't I?"

Lin Zhilan put away the needles and prepared to leave, leaving her second brother and sister-in-law some time to talk alone.

Before she could even leave, doctors and leaders who had learned that Su Jue had woken up rushed into the ward, pushing Deng Jing aside as well.

Su Jue stared at his wife until she was out of sight.

Lin Zhilan pulled Deng Jing over and patted her back reassuringly.

Deng Jing smiled at her, "It's alright as long as your second brother is awake."

Lin Zhilan put her arm around her shoulder and listened carefully to what Su Jue's superiors and doctors were saying on the other end of the line.

Su Jue's superiors asked many questions about Su Jue's health, but in the end, they all came down to when Su Jue would be able to return to work.

Deng Jing frowned as she listened.

Su Jue has just returned from the brink of death, how can she go to work?

Lin Zhilan pushed her way through the crowd and said coldly, "Leaders, do you think my second brother has lived too long?"

The leader paused, then looked at the person beside him, "Who is this?"

"I am Lin Zhilan from the military hospital on the island, and I am also Su Jue's sister-in-law."

Lin Zhilan pulled Deng Jing over, "This is Deng Jing, Su Jue's lover."

The leaders were momentarily speechless. They naturally wanted Su Jue to recover as soon as possible, but Su Jue's work could not be delayed.

Su Jue had been lying in bed for several days, and his body was stiff. He raised his hand with difficulty and beckoned to Deng Jing.

Deng Jing didn't care that there were so many people present, and quickly stepped forward to hold his hand tightly.

Lin Zhilan said, "It's no use urging my second brother. Both of his eardrums are ruptured, and it's hard to say how well they will recover. Right now, he definitely has hearing problems, so he can't hear anything you say."

Su Jue's superior looked at the doctor.

The doctor swallowed hard and nodded.

"Is surgery possible?"

The doctor said, "It can be done. We had been planning to wait until his condition stabilized before considering surgery."

"When will he be able to go back to work?"

"This..." The doctor hesitated, looking at Lin Zhilan for help.

Lin Zhilan found paper and pen on the table next to her and wrote: Second brother, do you want to go back to work?

She handed the notebook to Su Jue.

Su Jue glanced at Deng Jing hesitantly, then said in a daze, "I want to."

His work had reached a critical stage, and everyone was working hard on it; he couldn't give up halfway.
