Wizard: Starting with Symbiosis with Algae
Chapter 48 The Giant Wave I've Waited For My Life
Ruby did not hesitate.
She leaned over the car door, half her body out, and with her wizard's hand, unscrewed the wheel's axle. The moment the wheel detached from the axle, it was swept away by the wind and waves, and the experimental station was transformed into a boat.
Lynn opened the valve of the insulated box. Worms poured out, crashing into the water one after another.
"You are free! Just for one last thing for me. Forward, forward in the waves!"
They obeyed the commands, dragging slender ropes as they swam forward.
The experimental station began to accelerate. A wave crashed in, but the worms, under Ruby and Lynn's taming, remained surprisingly calm. They ate the wave, rising and falling in a neat and rhythmic manner, resembling a well-organized army.
The seawater was grayish-green, and the waves lapped against the bottom of the ship.
With the combined action of the worm and the engine, the test station was lifted off the water and bounced up and down on the crest of the waves.
They were flung into the air.
Lynn felt a strong push against his back. For tens of meters, for hundreds of meters.
For a fleeting moment, Lynn saw the entire sea.
The grey clouds, grey-green sea, and vast expanses of white foam—simple color blocks—possess an impressionistic power that stirs the soul. In the distance, white columns of steam erupt from hot springs, propelling the waves even higher into the sky.
Lynn took a deep breath; feeling the lack of oxygen, she immediately switched the two of them to oxygen tanks.
"Watch your breathing."
The test station crashed back into the water, and the splashing waves drenched Lynn completely.
Waves are higher than waves.
Soaked to the bone, Lynn no longer needed an oxygen tank and looked around.
The flying sticks landed on the beach and piled up on the mudflats, their fear of the cold preventing any of them from going any further.
They bounced restlessly, like stray dogs.
Only a few fragile worms tried to approach; they weren't so afraid of the cold, but it was to no avail—they were too weak. This was true not only for Lynn but also for the worms that the two had tamed.
Lynn followed the wave and seized the opportunity.
A counterintuitive truth is that even with the aid of magical environments, the highest point of a wave is still its lowest point of speed. The crest of a wave is a moment of stillness, while the true speed lies beneath the surface.
He chose a very high wave. The test station was swept up and tossed about in the seawater, its hull tilting and its metal shell groaning under the weight.
"We're still a little short; we need to put in a bit more effort."
The three channeled magic into the ship while simultaneously adding fuel.
Ruby also poured out the mineral oil that had accompanied Lynn through the most desolate years.
Dark green foam covered the barrier, sometimes obscuring the view with seawater, and sometimes leaving no seawater at all.
Thus, at the lowest point, the experimental station reached its peak speed.
A clap of thunder sounded in the sky, followed by a light, gentle drizzle. But the sound of the waves was too chaotic. Thunder, surging waves, the roar of engines—a tremendous cacophony of noise filled the air. Lynn couldn't hear anything.
Lynn shouted at the two of them:
"Let's load more fuel now and take off!"
Joe turned his head and looked at Lynn.
His hair was soaking wet, and his groin area, stained an unnatural bluish-purple from being submerged in the icy seawater. He already knew Lynn planned to fly directly into the sky. But it wasn't enough. The speed wasn't enough; their fuel would run out.
"Not enough, Lynn. We don't have enough fuel. We need to hurry, we need to go faster."
Lynn was startled.
That's still not enough.
They did not hide their energy.
What should we do?
Ruby's hand swayed on the joystick.
She panicked.
If it can't fly
How can they get out of this predicament?
The scaled pike could strike at any moment; how can they escape?
Is it more dignified to be half-flying into the air and shattered into pieces, or to be dismembered by worms and die?
In the midst of wind and waves, nothing can compare to the roar of the sea.
Joe was still shouting something, but no sound came through.
Lynn took a step to Ruby's side and put her hands on Ruby's shoulders.
Seawater soaked through his sleeves, the cold fabric clinging to Ruby's shoulders.
In the cold rain, he leaned close to her ear, breathed warm air into her ear, and shouted:
"Ruby—see that gushing hot spring?—Let's move over there—"
"What?!"
"We—with the power of the waves—will make our way!"
"Use its power to take off."
She did not answer.
But she gripped the joystick again.
Then let's take a gamble!
To die and then to live.
The experimental station suddenly turned in the trough of the wave, and the vines forcibly adjusted the direction in which the worms were being dragged.
The giant wave carried the oddly shaped iron-hulled ship toward the white column of steam in the distance.
Lynn was a rational person most of the time.
But there will always be someone who wants to be Don Quixote. There will always be someone who wants to charge at windmills, spread their wings against giant waves, and say no to all rational voices.
They were moving incredibly fast. The dark green seawater rushed past the hull, the waves pushed the stern forward, and the steam from the hot spring became increasingly clear ahead, with the white pillar standing tall against the leaden sky.
They're getting closer.
closer.
Very close.
Hot springs gushed forth directly beneath the ship's hull. Boiling water columns, carrying high-pressure steam, shot skyward from the depths of the sea, and the scalding white plumes of gas, upon contact with the frigid air, engulfed the entire experimental station.
All that remained in my field of vision was a white expanse of steam, all I could hear was a deafening roar, and my hands were covered in scalding steam.
The engine is running at full speed.
The wing surfaces unfold in the steam.
It's almost there.
Lynn made her choice.
"Burn everything, burn the worm's metabolites."
Joe shouted:
"receive!"
"High-energy soil, burn it all!"
Ruby shouted
"receive!"
"Worm cilia! Burn them all!"
"receive!"
"Potato!"
...
"Received! Received! Received!"
"Burn it all, burn it all!"
"Marching towards the sky!"
The next moment, the test station slid diagonally upwards into the sky.
It moves extremely fast and flows extremely smoothly.
Joe clutched his groin in delight.
They took off successfully!
The white column of steam was left at their feet. The dark green sea and leaden clouds could no longer hold them back.
The experimental station was a success!
The moment the test station broke through the clouds, the sky cleared.
In the gilded sky, magnificent mackerel clouds burned like wildfire.
The setting sun casts a sea of light, and the green mountains gleam with blood.
It all felt like the beginning of a legendary adventure.
Lynn leaned his back against the cold metal bulkhead, closed his eyes, and let out a long breath.
Ruby hugged Lynn, tears welling in her eyes; she could hardly contain herself.
"It's a success!"
The threat of pike still seems imminent.
But Lynn just wanted to rest for a bit, so he patted Ruby to signal her to let go and get him some food.
For example, dear worm powder and potato starch or something.
Ruby smiled, wiping her eyelids, tears of relief glistening on her face.
"But all our food has been burned."
Lynn exhaled.
This.
Ok.
Ruby isn't to blame.
Although the food was very inefficient at burning, it did make a tiny contribution to Lynn's flight.
Joe swayed as he crawled out of the test station.
It seems he wanted to celebrate with the two of them.
Lynn helped Joe up and looked out at the vast sky outside the test station.
"Joe, come take a look."
"You will feel insignificant."
Joe reached out his hand, looked at Lynn with a puzzled expression, and wheeled his wheelchair to the edge of the testing station.
Insignificant?
No, he didn't feel that way.
He felt only hunger, a hunger he had never felt before.
Lynn just wanted to eat something.
So Lynn seems to be just as hungry as he is?
He looked at the fiery red and golden yellow before him and spoke softly.
"Lynn, I see so many cotton candies, do you want some?"
"Golden, like fire, do you want it?"
Lynn turned around in shock.
Two large, red, scaled pike were right beside me.
Joe suddenly realized he was being affected by the dogfish. He propped himself up in his wheelchair and used magic to spread his elbows, causing blood to flow freely. He regained some clarity.
However, his current combat strength is approximately zero.
Now, it's time for Lynn and Ruby to face off against the Scaled Pike in a 2v2 match.
