Wizard: Starting with Symbiosis with Algae

Chapter 66 Torrents and Spell Interference

On the desert, flash floods poured down without warning, rushing from south to north along the dried-up river valley.

Having endured the torrential rains of the Sand Dune Planet, Lynn's heart began to race as soon as he heard the sound, and as he entered the zone, he subconsciously lashed out with vines to entwine it.

Sure enough, the next second, the floodwaters swept past his feet, and the muddy torrent of mud and sand tugged at his trouser legs like a vicious dog biting him relentlessly.

The vines contracted and pulled him out of the water, dragging him roughly to the shore.

He coughed twice, supporting himself on the ground, and looked back at the roaring torrent rushing through the valley.

He spat out a mouthful of saliva mixed with sand.

Really satisfied.

That wizard is truly ruthless!

If I hadn't reacted quickly enough, I would have been swept away!

As Lynn took a deep breath, the Wild Dog River rushed past his feet. According to an outdoor study, more people die each year in the desert from flash floods than from drought. Flash floods are nothing unusual in the desert.

Under prolonged drought and intense sun exposure, a hard crust forms on the surface of the sandy soil. Combined with the presence of clay and minerals, this results in extremely poor permeability. Most rainwater fails to seep in and instead flows and accumulates on the surface. Furthermore, the sparse vegetation in the desert naturally makes it prone to flash floods.

The flood came so fiercely, which is normal according to the laws of nature.

But damn it, this isn't a natural flash flood at all.

Lynn looked up; the dark clouds were thinning at the edge of the meadow, and the rain was still falling.

The boundaries are too neat, and the exit speed is uniform.

This was done by human intervention!

To create this perfect desert environment, do they even need to simulate flash floods?

The Wizarding World, you're something else.

And the rain was getting heavier and heavier.

Lynn pulled himself ashore; the murky water level was rising at a visible speed.

The river washed away the debris on the banks: withered branches, broken leaves, worm carcasses, and some small, unidentifiable creatures struggling to climb higher, while those that were slow were swept away by the current.

However, after a while, as he stood on the shore watching all this, he suddenly felt no fear.

Although the flood was raging, this amount of water was not enough to stop it.

Whether you treat it as a learning experience or a minor incident during your journey, it doesn't pose any real threat.

The same applies to well-prepared second-level wizard apprentices.

He stood up, brushed the dirt off his knees, and was about to recalculate the route when suddenly his body stiffened. The Edranor grass was pricking his body again. That familiar pain came from his fingertips, flickering and tugging at his mind and stomach.

Lynn snorted and glanced down at the two Edranor plants attached to his wristband, which were trembling slightly in the rain.

Immediately afterwards, a notification appeared.

[Through the combined effects of the Edranorian grass and the lamb, their bodies became stronger.]

Agility +0.01.

It’s weird.

Do the edranor plants love the wind and sand? They thrive in the scorching sun, their roots growing wildly, their leaves turning a vibrant green, as if they've been injected with adrenaline. Yet, they begin to suffer in the rain, a stark contrast to their condition in the bedroom.

Lynn just couldn't understand it.

If it weren't for the fact that his purpose for this trip included observing the Edranor grass,

He's definitely going to collect the grass.

However, there is not much direct danger in the current environment, so we can bear this pain.

So Lynn adjusted his breathing, looked at the troublesome Edranor grass, and sighed softly.

I'll leave you here until we reach the homeland of the Iron Man.

He pulled his rain-soaked coat tighter around himself and prepared to continue walking westward along the riverbank.

Agility +0.01.

He took a step with his left foot, and another notification popped up.

[The Edranor grass is growing rapidly due to magical interference.]

The lamb's growth has been stunted due to the interference of magic.

Lynn stopped moving.

Immediately afterwards, a strange tremor surged towards me along the direction of the river.

Lynn turned around abruptly, his gaze sweeping across the river.

The river continued its roaring northward rush, its surface dotted only with splashes of raindrops and churning mud and sand.

But his perception doesn't lie.

The sand beneath my feet is loosening, and the feeling of stepping on it has changed from firm to soft; the ground is quietly becoming hollow.

In the distance of the desert, towards the homeland of the Iron Man, a bright light shimmered in the rain, looking like crystals or metal.

Lynn narrowed his eyes, stretched out his hand, and activated the spell again.

"Entwined by vines."

Vines flew out from the palm of the hand.

But this time, it was only a little over nineteen meters long.

The 30-meter section has shrunk by nearly a third, and the vines become less solid towards the top, with the tips beginning to blur.

It's similar to the vines created by someone who hasn't learned magic.

Tu

Not only living things, but even magic has been affected.

Lynn's mind raced.

Where are the clues?

He suddenly grasped a much bigger possibility.

Magic. Yes, magic.

This level of desert environment had little effect on him because his magic reserves were sufficient.

But what if it were an ordinary level two apprentice? The spell's effect would be reduced by a third, physical strength and perception would be simultaneously interfered with, not to mention mountain torrents, sandstorms, and monsters that could appear at any time.

It certainly has a good training effect.

So, is magical disruption the theme of this environment?

The reason this desert was built on the homeland of the Iron Man was to create this magical, disruptive effect.

He still can't piece together the complete answer.

Edranor grass grows rapidly under magical disturbances, while lambs are inhibited in the same environment.

What's even stranger is that the body fluid worms haven't changed at all. As for Lynn himself, his magic level is probably too high, so he hasn't felt any direct effects yet.

"Interesting," he muttered, shaking his head.

The most important thing right now is to keep moving forward.

Continue westward.

He crossed a high ground, a low valley, and then stepped into the plain.

As expected, a sandstorm swept in.

The sandstorm was mixed with fine sand particles.

The Edranor grass thrived even more during the sandstorm, its leaves unfurling and its roots clinging powerfully to his wrist, growing incredibly lush.

The edranor plant grew longer and longer, even exceeding the recorded limits.

The storm swept across the ground from east to west, pushing layer upon layer of yellow sand.

A sound came through the storm.

"Help! Anyone will do! Help us!"

Lynn's senses were instantly triggered, and he subconsciously lowered his body and looked in the direction of the sound.

In the distance, several figures were engaged in a fierce battle with some enormous worms.

One of them had already fallen to the ground, motionless, while the others were desperately trying to maintain the defensive line.

The colorful spells reminded Lynn that everyone standing there knew at least two spells.

If nothing unexpected happens, the people here are at least second-level wizard apprentices.

However, due to magical interference, they were no match for the several giant worms.

"But it's a bit far," Lynn sighed.

The sandstorm was so strong that even with a tailwind, it hampered his movements.

He was at least 3km away from the apprentices, and if he didn't find a way to get there, he wouldn't make it in time.
