Wizard: Starting with Symbiosis with Algae
Chapter 7 High-Energy Soils
"A flying stick?"
Lynn clutched his right arm; the wound wasn't deep, but it was bleeding quite a bit. His stamina was below 1, placing him in the category of the weak and sickly, so even a small amount of blood loss was dangerous. Fortunately, the filaments of the blue-light algae had covered the wound, reducing some of the blood loss.
Ruby is a second-level wizard apprentice, whose magic and perception are far superior to his.
So
Ruby said it was a stick, so the monster was probably shaped like a stick.
Lynn was ready to unleash his spell at any moment.
But he didn't act blindly. The problem now was how to see the flying stick, survive, and then fight back.
The torrential rain pounded against the bulkhead, the splashes overlapping each other, the sound so dense that it was impossible to tell which way was which.
Lynn and Ruby pressed their backs against the rock wall to reduce the chance of being attacked from behind.
Ruby, the only one on the scene who could notice the flying stick, was now intently staring at the light spot bouncing back and forth in the center of the room.
Her pupils constricted, her limbs tensed, and she leaned against the wall, trying to steady her breathing, not daring to relax for a moment.
"To your left front. It should attack your left arm."
Lynn took a step back the moment he heard the sound.
A blue-white light grazed the outside of his left arm.
The light streaked across the wall, leaving a light gray mark, before veering to the upper right and disappearing into the shadow of the roof beam.
Lynn understood.
The building materials of the experimental station can block the attack of the flying rods.
He probably wouldn't have died immediately if his brain hadn't been pierced.
"Left knee, Lynn, be careful."
Lynn took another step back.
The flying stick once again darted close to Lynn's body.
"Thank you, Ruby. I think I can see a little better!"
Ruby replied with dissatisfaction.
"You're welcome."
"I'm wondering why it only attacks you."
"Am I not tempting enough?"
Lynn hadn't thought about that.
But the recent attacks have indeed all been directed at him.
Could it be because of the symbiotic relationship with blue-green algae?
"Madam, please focus."
They didn't have time to think.
The third and fourth attacks came in succession, rushing up from the lower right corner, targeting his calves.
He stepped aside, and the light smeared past his ankles before hitting the iron cage behind him.
Lynn noticed that there seemed to be some pattern.
After dodging five or six times, with the rain no longer obscuring the view and the room now bright enough, both of them were able to clearly see the trajectory of the flying stick.
Move forward in a winding path, from top left to bottom right.
Because indoor flight requires bursts and ejections, the movement of the flying stick becomes highly predictable.
Lynn shielded his head with his hands and stepped forward slightly.
Lynn noticed that the flying rod had once again sprang out from the corner of the roof beam, this time veered to the left, aiming for his left shoulder.
He dodged to the left, and the spot of light grazed his shoulder.
"The next target is the chest; its action logic is very fixed."
"In other words, there is a chance."
Lynn focused his attention, preparing to receive the next attack from the flying stick.
Just then, the lid of the insulated box was slowly pushed open from the inside.
The incubator was placed under the experimental platform, where Ruby was catalyzing worm eggs.
And the worms that were put in this morning, the heads of two small worms poked out from the crack.
This is the last remaining worm.
Ruby's gaze swept over the insulated box.
He strode forward, then, half a second later, withdrew his hand and shouted.
"My worm!"
..
Contrary to their expectations, the flying stick did not head towards the insulated box.
It was ejected and landed on the oxygen cylinder rack at the other end of the room.
They changed rooms and launched an attack on Lynn.
Lynn was puzzled.
Why? The incubator contains newly hatched worms, which are more tender than those in the water basin and easier to penetrate.
But instead of advancing, it regressed.
It's not because I'm not hungry, and it's not because I didn't see it.
Why is that?
Lynn stared at the insulated box for two seconds.
The bottom of the box was covered with a condenser plate that had been removed from the refrigeration unit, and a thin layer of frost had formed on the plate.
The white color is very eye-catching.
When Ruby was catalyzing the insect eggs, she used a freezing spell to reduce the temperature inside the chamber to single digits.
temperature?
cold?
freeze?
Lynn suddenly realized!
Is that creature afraid of the cold?
Then another patter of rain began.
Inside the damp experimental station
Lynn shouted to Ruby
"Freeze. Ruby, use Freeze on the front of my chest."
As he shouted, the flying stick had already completed a new round of charging and was heading straight for his chest.
Ruby is not stupid.
It only took her half a second to understand why he wanted her to put ice on his head.
The flying stick fears the cold.
She raised her right hand and murmured something.
In front of Lynn and himself, the moisture in the air instantly condensed into a cold mist.
The point of light struck the edge of the cold mist with an extremely sharp screech.
"Well done, Lynn!"
Lynn did not wait for it to recover.
"Enveloped in blue light."
Magic gathers, a flash of green.
The vines shot out, and the creature, which had just sprung up from the iron frame and hadn't even reached full speed, crashed headfirst into the vines.
Lynn tightened, and it bounced violently inside, but the vines were resilient enough to absorb the impact of each bounce. It bounced several times but failed to break free, and finally calmed down inside the vines.
"Is it over?"
"Let me see."
Lynn tightened the vines, pulling the thing down from mid-air and onto the ground.
He crouched down, about to part the vines to see its full appearance.
A beam of extremely bright light shot out from the vines.
The creature gathered a burst of power, rushed through the curtain of water at the cave entrance, and disappeared into the rain.
Lynn looked down at the vines and froze.
A small hole was drilled right in the middle of the vine.
Ran?
Ruby was also stunned.
Is this the end?
...
Huff. Huff.
The two, dressed in their finery, closed the door and moved closer.
This encounter with the anomalous creature resulted in almost a complete loss.
Six oxygen-producing worms were lost, and a new wound appeared on his arm. The thing escaped, leaving no trace.
"What should we do?" Ruby squatted down next to the insulated box and put the lid back on.
Lynn shook his head and began cleaning up the battle damage.
He gathered up the vines, then squatted down by the basin, picked out the dead worms and set them aside, while taking out the few that were still moving and setting them aside separately.
When he picked up the third one, his finger touched something.
That was retrieved from the vines.
It is hard, granular, and emits a faint blue glow.
It's a little hot to the touch.
After the spell was stopped, these strange stones went directly into Lynn's palm.
He picked it up and held it up to his eyes. It was an irregularly shaped particle, about three millimeters in diameter, with a rough surface and a color that was somewhere between fluorescent blue and light green.
He opened his palm; there were eight in total.
Ruby saw it too.
She walked over, picked one up from Lynn's hand, and looked at it against the light of the gas lamp on the experimental table.
"This stuff seems to have pretty good fertilizing properties..."
Lynn tried soaking the stone in water.
The grains feel cool to the touch, and the surface has many small pores, making it similar to cheese.
Suddenly a notification appeared before his eyes.
