Soul Returns to Hong Kong: From Tailor Shop to Richest Woman
Chapter 238 From Shenzhen to Hong Kong, she can finally write stories in peace.
Lin Ying made a note of the script, then went to the third floor of the R&D building. Tanaka Masaki's office door was open, and inside, besides him, was Chen Zhiyuan. The two were discussing something in front of a computer.
Lin Ying knocked on the door: "Mr. Tanaka, are you still writing your project proposal?"
Tanaka stood up: "Yes, the general framework is in place, and we are now refining the budget."
"Keep writing the report, no rush." Lin Ying pulled up a chair and sat down. "I have another idea to share with you. Big-budget games are for later; for now, I'd like to test the waters with a few smaller-scale products."
Tanaka adjusted his glasses: "What do you mean by 'small size'?"
"Board games and casual management games," Lin Ying said. "Games like Dou Dizhu, Mahjong, and those restaurant management mini-games; they have low development costs, short development cycles, and low barriers to user acceptance."
Chen Zhiyuan chimed in from the side, "These kinds of simple games don't require much technical skill; my people can make them."
"You focus on the enterprise system, don't get distracted; these small games will have Tanaka's team come up with the plans, and once his team has set it up, we'll assign people to develop them."
Tanaka thought for a few seconds: "Mr. Lin, this type of product is indeed easy to develop, and a version can be released in two or three months; but do you want to make a PC version or an arcade version?"
"PC," Lin Ying said. "The rate of computer adoption is accelerating. There's a real demand for computers in the office, where people can play a couple of rounds of Dou Dizhu during their lunch break and a couple of rounds of mahjong when they get home."
After hearing this, Chen Zhiyuan got itchy again: "Boss, I can really make this Dou Dizhu game, the logic isn't complicated..."
Lin Ying looked at him and smiled, saying, "Chen Zhiyuan, you take good care of your ERP system. If it's not online by the end of the year, you'll be tightening screws in the workshop."
Chen Zhiyuan quickly shut up.
Tanaka jotted down a few notes in his notebook: "I understand. We'll start with small games to practice and figure out the preferences and habits of domestic players. Once the team is more cohesive, we can move on to larger projects."
"Yes, that's exactly what I mean." Lin Ying stood up. "In the project proposal, include these mini-games in a separate chapter, clearly stating the budget, manpower, and launch date."
Tanaka agreed, "Okay."
After leaving the R&D building, Lin Ying went to see Chen Guodong again and went over several recent matters: the production schedule for the fourth batch, the delivery timetable for Claire, the construction progress of the second phase factory, and the on-duty status of the security team. She checked everything one by one.
After finishing the handover, Chen Guodong sensed that his boss was about to leave again, so he asked, "Ms. Lin, how long will you be staying in Shenzhen this time?"
Lin Ying: "I'm leaving tomorrow."
Chen Guodong was somewhat surprised: "So soon?"
"My mom's about to explode." Lin Ying closed the file. "I've been away for almost a month. If I don't go back soon, she's going to call the factory and yell at me."
Chen Guodong smiled but didn't say anything. That night, Lin Ying finished explaining everything she could, and the next morning she packed her suitcase and took a car across Luohu.
There weren't many people at the border. Lin Ying bought a newspaper to pass the time, and her mind was already working out the outline for Su Zhihao's film.
At 2 p.m., the car was parked in front of the Kadoorie Hill villa.
Lin Ying pushed open the door with her suitcase. The living room was quiet. Pusen was wiping the floor. When he saw her, he immediately smiled and came to take her luggage.
"The lady is upstairs," Pusen said.
Lin Ying changed her shoes and went upstairs. Before she even reached the corner on the second floor, she heard Lin Lanying's voice: "Zaozao, come here, look over here..."
Lin Ying pushed open the door, and Lin Lanying was sitting on the edge of the bed playing with the child, who was already lying in the crib, kicking his arms and legs and making cooing noises.
Lin Ying took a closer look and was stunned. The child had changed so much! The little thing that was wrinkled and red a month ago was now white and chubby, with plump cheeks, fleshy dimples on its wrists, and legs that looked like small lotus root segments.
"Huh?" Lin Ying leaned closer to look for a while. "How did she get so fat?"
Lin Lanying picked up Zaozao and turned around: "How dare you ask? You've been gone for a month, and the child doesn't even recognize you anymore!"
Lin Ying reached out to touch Zaozao's face. The little one stared at her for two seconds, neither crying nor laughing, her expression blank.
"...Does she not remember me?" Lin Ying asked, a little embarrassed.
"Nonsense!" Lin Lanying shoved Zaozao into her arms. "You only come back once a month, of course she won't remember you. Look at Wen Xu, he calls every day to ask how the kids are doing, and what about you?"
Lin Ying took the baby from her arms and looked down at her daughter. She admitted that the baby was indeed very cute and much prettier than when she was born.
She carried the child around the room a few times, and the child cooperated well by not crying or fussing. Lin Ying thought the child was relatively easy to take care of.
After playing for about twenty minutes, I started yawning very early.
Lin Ying handed the child back to Lin Lanying: "Mommy, she's sleepy, you can put her to sleep. I'm going to the study to do some work."
Lin Lanying took Zaozao and watched Lin Ying walk away into the study without turning her head, but in the end she didn't say anything.
She looked down at her granddaughter, who had already closed her eyes in her arms, and muttered softly, "Your mother still hasn't gotten into motherhood mode."
Despite her words, Lin Lanying knew what kind of personality her daughter had. From childhood to adulthood, Lin Ying had her own rhythm in everything she did, and she couldn't be rushed or forced. If you said too much, she would only become more unhappy. With someone to take care of the child, ensuring she wasn't hungry or cold, Lin Ying could just go about her business.
After she fell asleep early, Lin Lanying put her back in her crib and quietly went downstairs.
As she passed the study door, she saw Lin Ying already sitting at the table, with a notebook open in front of her and a pen in her hand writing something.
Lin Lanying pushed open the door and entered: "What are you writing?"
Lin Ying didn't even look up: "The script."
Lin Lanying asked, somewhat puzzled, "Script? What script?"
"Uncle Su asked me to write it for a movie." Lin Ying turned a page and continued writing the outline. "I've been staying in Hong Kong for a while now, not going anywhere else, just focusing on writing the script."
Lin Lanying had almost forgotten when Lin Ying last wrote a script. After "Qin Guan", Lin Ying had never touched a script again, and all her energy was focused on doing business.
Lin Lanying thought her daughter had stopped writing.
"You... why are you writing again?" Lin Lanying walked in and sat down on the chair next to her. "I thought you were leaving this line of work."
Lin Ying stopped writing and glanced at her: "Why aren't you doing it? You have a story in your head, why don't you write it down?"
"But you're so busy right now..."
"Being busy is one thing, but it's another." Lin Ying pushed the notebook towards Lin Lanying. "Look, I've already finished half of the outline."
Lin Lanying glanced down at it; it was covered with dense writing, characters, plot lines, and scene structure, all clearly organized like a report.
"What did you write?"
"A business war," Lin Ying said succinctly, "the story of a woman who rises from the bottom to the top."
Lin Lanying subconsciously looked at Lin Ying: "Isn't this just like you?"
Lin Ying smiled and said, "It's different. She's in a much worse situation than me."
Lin Lanying snorted: "You're not much better."
She stood up and walked out, but turned back at the door: "Since you're going to stay home and write, you have to hold the baby for at least an hour every day. You can't leave it all to me and Pusen."
"understood."
"Also, you must be in bed before 11 p.m., no staying up late; I'm going to the shop tomorrow, have Meiling heat up your lunch for you, there's soup in the fridge..."
Lin Ying said helplessly, "Mommy! I'm not a three-year-old. You go and do your thing, I can take care of myself."
Lin Lanying then left the study, muttering as she went downstairs, "Making money, making money, all I think about all day is making money..."
He Dazhu happened to be returning from buying snacks when he heard this and asked, "Wife, what's wrong with Aying?"
Lin Lanying took the groceries and walked into the kitchen: "Your daughter has started writing a script again."
He Dazhu didn't care: "Let her write. She's loved writing since she was little, it's not a bad thing."
Lin Lanying glared at him: "I dislike her for not taking care of the children!"
He Dazhu laughed and said, "Isn't it enough that you've been taking care of things all along? You're more enthusiastic about being a grandma than anyone else."
-------
Upstairs in the study, Lin Ying picked up her pen again and continued writing the outline; Zao Zao was fast asleep in the next room. The whole villa was quiet and peaceful; it had been a long time since she had been in such a state.
No need to go to factories, sign documents, or answer phones and deal with all sorts of people; all she needed was a pen and a notebook to unfold the stories in her mind. Lin Ying wrote for over an hour until her wrists started to ache, so she put down her pen and stretched them out.
The phone on the table rang. It was He Fangqin calling: "Boss, are you home yet? Mr. Tanaka said he started writing the mini-game proposal today. He's asking if you want to make Dou Dizhu and Mahjong into two separate products, or a combined version?"
Lin Ying thought for a moment: "Let's start with independent products, one at a time, don't try to do too many."
"Okay, I'll tell him; by the way, boss, Chen Zhiyuan just asked me again, is it really true that he can't interfere with the Dou Dizhu game?"
Lin Ying was speechless: "Tell him that if the ERP system can't go online by the end of the year, I'll deduct three months' bonus from his paycheck."
