My Dongguan Love Story
Chapter 135 If You've Got the Ability, Then Pull It Out
When Tang Yan heard Lin Guilian mumble "Dazhuang's husband" in her sleep, her heart tightened and a surge of anger rose within her. She immediately wanted to rush forward and argue with her.
Two nurses were administering an IV to Lin Guilian in the ward, blocking her way, making it impossible for her to get close. Upon closer inspection, Lin Guilian's eyes were closed, and her breathing was even and slow; she was clearly unconscious.
It seems that the affectionate term she used earlier was just her unconscious murmur in her sleep.
Tang Yan suppressed the jealousy and displeasure surging in her heart, stood quietly in place, and did not go forward to argue.
The nurse, having finished administering the IV to Lin Guilian, put away the syringe, walked up to me, stopped, and spoke calmly and businesslike:
"Hello, family member. We need to arrange for the patient to be hospitalized for recuperation. Please go to the cashier to settle all relevant fees and complete the hospitalization registration procedures. After that, we can arrange a bed for the patient." I nodded as I listened to her words: "Okay, I'll go pay now."
Seeing me turn to pay the bill, Tang Yan quickly followed, her face full of surprise as she walked, and couldn't help but mutter under her breath, "How did you become Lin Guilian's family member?"
When I heard her words, I gave an awkward smile: "That's just what a nurse is called, don't overthink it."
Actually, when I had the surgery, I signed the form as my spouse. I definitely can't tell Tang Yan about this.
When I got to the payment counter, I handed over the receipt.
The staff member glanced at the form, then looked up at me: "There are two types of wards. Which one would you like to choose?"
"Two kinds?" I frowned slightly and looked at her in confusion.
"Well, one type is a regular six-person room, where the six beds are close together and the space is relatively compact; the other type is a double ward, which is spacious and has a private bathroom."
After listening to her introduction, I didn't hesitate for a second and immediately said, "Choose a double ward."
I figured to myself that the six-bed ward was already crowded, and with the family members accompanying them, there would be at least twelve people crammed into that small room. With people coming and going and making noise all the time, how could Lin Guilian possibly get proper rest?
Although a double room costs significantly more, it's worth it as long as she can sleep soundly and recover quickly.
When Tang Yan saw that I had booked an expensive double room, her expression immediately darkened. She frowned and looked at me, her tone clearly displeased:
"Dazhuang, is it really necessary to book a hospital room for such an expensive price? It's 55 yuan a day, and more than 500 yuan for ten days, which is almost a month's salary for an ordinary worker."
She said she was worried about the money, but what she really felt awkward about was that I felt sorry for Lin Guilian and worried that I had fallen for her. So no matter how I thought about it, I felt uncomfortable and unhappy from the bottom of my heart.
I listened to her words and gently waved my hand, my tone firm: "Lin Guilian was injured and hospitalized while protecting me from a knife. We can't skimp on this expense."
After settling the bill and collecting the receipt, he turned to pick up Lin Guilian and settled her into a double ward.
This double room looks quite nice. Although it's significantly more expensive, it's fully equipped. The room has air conditioning, and the bed is a foldable and height-adjustable type, which is much more comfortable than the hard iron beds in the six-person ward.
Furthermore, the other bed is unoccupied, which essentially makes it a private ward. Very good.
After the nurse wheeled Lin Guilian over, she gave her some instructions and then turned and left.
Tang Yan sat with me for a while, but got a little bored and wanted to pull me away. She pouted and looked at me, "Dazhuang, let's go back first, it's too boring staying here."
I helplessly grabbed Tang Yan's hand: "You should go back first, I have to stay here and keep watch."
The nurses said that the patient's condition has not fully improved yet and that someone needs to stay with him, so how could I dare to leave?
But Tang Yan was unwilling to leave at all, afraid that I would be alone with Lin Guilian, and was whispering to me, trying to urge me to leave together. Just then, Lin Guilian's eyelids suddenly trembled slightly, and after a moment, she slowly opened her eyes.
Seeing that she had finally woken up after being unconscious for so long, a smile immediately spread across my face. I leaned closer and asked softly, "Gui Lian, how are you feeling? Are you alright?"
When Lin Guilian heard my address, she frowned slightly and corrected me in a weak voice, "What Guilian? Call me... call me wife."
When I heard that address, I was immediately stunned and subconsciously glanced at Tang Yan beside me.
Tang Yan's face instantly darkened, and her pent-up anger erupted. She sternly rebuked the newly awakened Lin Guilian:
"Lin Guilian, have you no shame? How dare you let Dazhuang call you 'wife'?"
Her face flushed red with anger, her eyes red-rimmed with rage, almost spitting fire. In her heart, Lin Guilian was utterly shameless; how dare she let Dazhuang call her "wife" while she was still there? It was simply outrageous.
Hearing Tang Yan's angry outburst, Lin Guilian looked up at her. Far from being annoyed, a faint smile slowly curved her lips. She slightly propped herself up, her gaze meeting Tang Yan's directly, her tone confident yet tinged with provocation: "Dazhuang is my husband, why can't he call me wife?"
At that moment, she felt triumphant, no longer inferior to Tang Yan. Just kidding, you're Da Zhuang's girlfriend, I'm Da Zhuang's wife. In ancient times, I would be the first wife, why should I be afraid of you?
Upon hearing Lin Guilian's words, Tang Yan's expression instantly darkened, her eyes surging with intense anger. Her originally rosy lips pressed tightly into a cold arc, and the fire in her chest shot straight to the top of her head.
Tang Yan glared at Lin Guilian, her gaze sharp as a dagger, and questioned her with displeasure, "What did you say? You said Dazhuang is your husband?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she turned her head sharply to look at me, her eyes blazing with anger, yet also filled with a sense of grievance and resentment as she questioned me.
Lin Guilian met her gaze, chuckled softly, and nodded slowly, her tone firm: "That's right, you can ask Dazhuang if you don't believe me."
Tang Yan stared at me blankly, her face filled with disbelief, her voice trembling slightly as she murmured to herself:
"What exactly did Lin Guilian mean by that?"
I was terrified by her angry eyes, so I quickly went over and pulled her aside, explaining in a low voice, "Oh dear, she was stabbed and was dying. She asked me to be her husband, and I agreed on the spot to comfort her. Oh dear, I did it so she could hold on until the ambulance arrived."
Upon hearing my words, Tang Yan's angry eyes finally calmed down a bit. She wanted to question me: if that's the case, why did you agree to be Lin Guilian's husband?
But the words caught in her throat, and she couldn't be bothered to say them. Seeing Lin Guilian's smug expression, she felt a surge of anger. She crossed her arms, looked intently at Lin Guilian on the hospital bed, and said:
"Did you hear that? Dazhuang said he only agreed on the spot to appease you, and it doesn't count. Now that you've been saved, there's nothing between you two."
After listening to Tang Yan's words, Lin Guilian slowly turned her gaze to me, her eyes calm to the point of indifference, which sent a chill down my spine. She was still weak from just waking up, her voice light and feeble, as she softly asked:
"Dazhuang, is that really true?"
I was speechless for a moment, opening my mouth but unable to say anything. My gaze first fell on the weak Lin Guilian, then turned to Tang Yan, whose face was full of anxiety and anger. I was caught in a dilemma, completely unsure how to answer.
I inwardly groaned. Neither of these two women was easy to deal with. Now I was caught in the middle, torn between them, feeling a chill run down my spine; I was truly terrified.
Lin Guilian waited in vain for my response, then suddenly gave a bitter laugh, her face paling instantly. She weakly raised her hand to pull off the IV drip, her voice both sorrowful and resolute:
"Dazhuang, if you're lying to me, I'll kill myself."
Seeing this, I quickly reached out to stop her from pulling out the IV drip, and said anxiously, "Gui Lian, don't be impulsive."
Upon hearing my words, Lin Guilian's eyes instantly filled with tears. She looked at me with wet eyes, her voice trembling with sobs: "Dazhuang, you promised me, have you forgotten? If you don't admit it, I might as well just die."
She suddenly exerted force on her hand, as if she was really going to pull out the IV tube. My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly reached out and pressed her hand down firmly, reassuring her repeatedly, "No, no, I mean it, I promise."
I was really afraid something would happen to her. She had just come back from the brink of death. The nurses had repeatedly told me not to let her get emotional, otherwise it could easily lead to postoperative complications.
Seeing Lin Guilian treating me like this, Tang Yan was seething with anger. She immediately stepped forward and said sharply, "Lin Guilian, if you're so capable, then pull it out! Stop trying to fool me."
