My Dongguan Love Story

Now I'm completely stuck, and my biggest headache right now is finding a place to sleep tonight.

Although her relatives and elders should have left in another hour or two, we just couldn't stay still any longer.

I didn't sleep well last night, and I went out early this morning to run errands. I was exhausted and my eyelids are too heavy to keep open.

Lin Tao was also exhausted. She was so excited about going out last night that she didn't sleep a wink. During the day, she first sprained her ankle and then fell twice. Her whole body was sore and tired. She would probably fall asleep as soon as she got into bed.

There was only one small bed in the room, about 1.5 meters wide, which made it impossible to sleep properly. Besides, it was embarrassing to sleep together, and it just felt wrong for the two of us, a single man and a single woman, to spend the night in the same room.

Lin Tao was so sleepy she could barely lift her eyelids. She glanced at me and whispered, "Dazhuang, don't sleep tonight. Just sit here and stay up all night. I'll take you out tomorrow morning."

I was speechless after hearing that, thinking to myself, "So you're the only one who's sleepy, but I'm not?" I waved my hand and said, "Never mind, you lie down and rest for now. I'll sneak away when it's quiet outside."

Lin Tao panicked immediately upon hearing this and quickly reached out to stop me: "That won't do. Even if it's quiet outside, it doesn't mean my parents are sound asleep. It would be terrible if we went out and bumped into them."

I helplessly shrugged: "This won't work, that won't work either. I can't stay up all night, can I? I'm so sleepy I can't stay awake any longer."

Lin Tao looked troubled, her gaze shifting back and forth between me and the small bed. After hesitating for a long time, she finally said, "How about this, you lie down and sleep for a while, and then I'll wake you up to go when it's completely quiet and no one's around. Is that alright?"

That's a good idea. I'm so sleepy my head is practically nodding off; I can't stay awake any longer. I glanced around the small room and asked, "So, where am I going to sleep?"

Lin Tao originally planned for me to sleep on the floor, but the room was small. She was sitting in front of the dressing table, and no matter how I lay on the floor, my body would be close to hers, and it would also block the doorway, making it inconvenient to go in and out.

She pondered for a moment, sighed softly, gritted her teeth, and made up her mind: "Go to bed."

I had initially thought I'd have to sleep on the floor, so I was stunned when I heard this and quickly asked, "Really?"

After all, a girl's bed is always a private space, and she wouldn't just let a stranger lie on it. I had to ask her first to feel at ease. Actually, I didn't have any concerns at all. Since she took the initiative to ask, I was naturally quite at ease. Sleeping on a comfortable, soft bed is much better than a hard floor.

The floor was hard and cold; sleeping on it for a night would definitely make my whole body ache. In addition, the toilet had leaked earlier, and walking around made the floor wet with water stains. I would have to clean up before I could sleep, but there wasn't even a mop in the room, so there was no place to put my feet.

Lin Tao agreed after listening, sighed helplessly, and started to change the old sheets on the bed. She found a clean, unused new sheet and made it up, telling me, "Go to sleep quickly, behave yourself and don't toss and turn, especially don't drool, or you'll get the sheets dirty."

I rolled my eyes at her, secretly thinking that she was the one who drooled in her sleep. By now, I was too sleepy to argue with her, so I went to the bedside, took off my coat, and lay down on the bed without even using a pillow. I fell into a deep sleep in no time.

Lin Tao watched as I fell asleep the moment my head hit the bed and started snoring in the blink of an eye. She couldn't help but marvel at how well Da Zhuang slept, falling asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

But gradually, the snoring grew louder and louder. She panicked instantly, afraid that her family outside would hear it. She hurriedly turned to look at the door, walked quickly to the bedside, and gently covered my mouth with her hand.

She carefully covered his mouth, when she suddenly felt a dampness in her palm. Looking down, she saw that Dazhuang was sleeping so soundly that drool was dripping from the corner of his mouth. Lin Tao immediately frowned, feeling helpless. She found a clean small towel and gently placed it near his mouth, which finally stopped the noise and suppressed the loud snoring.

After finishing all these tasks, she was exhausted and picked up the doll next to her. She leaned back in her chair to rest, but soon she fell into a deep sleep with her head tilted to the side.

Two or three hours passed in the blink of an eye. Lin Tao woke up groggily, her back and neck aching all over, but her head was still foggy and unclear. She spotted the bed next to her, walked over lightly, and lay down. Her tense body relaxed instantly, feeling extremely comfortable. Before long, she fell into a deep sleep again.

After falling asleep, the air conditioner made her feel cold, so she subconsciously moved closer to a warmer spot. In her drowsy state, she mistook Dazhuang next to her for the toy she usually cuddled to sleep with, and reached out to hug him tightly.

Leaning against the warm body, the chill instantly dissipated, and she instinctively hugged herself tighter, sleeping more soundly and peacefully.

I was sleeping soundly when I was suddenly hugged tightly. Still drowsy, I barely opened my eyes, my vision too blurry to make out her face. I mistook her for Lin Huimin and instinctively reached out to hug her back. The night air was chilly, and my palms were icy cold, so I reached inside to warm them. Before long, I fell into a deep sleep again.

The next morning, the morning light streamed through the window, so bright it was hard to open my eyes, and I slowly woke up. I subconsciously moved my hand and touched something soft. I was immediately stunned. I looked down to see what was in my hand, and when I looked up to see the person so close to me, I was shocked to find that I was holding Lin Tao. I was instantly wide awake.

I stirred slightly, and Lin Tao beside me woke up as well. She felt something was wrong, looked down, and was immediately startled, exclaiming, "Ah! Dazhuang, you…!"

The scream instantly jolted me awake. I hurriedly withdrew my hand, so flustered that I couldn't speak coherently for a long time.

After a few seconds of stunned silence, I snapped out of it and immediately retorted confidently, "Didn't we agree that I'd sleep in the bed and you'd sleep in the chair? How come you're sleeping on the bed by yourself?"

Now I'm in the right.

After I reminded her, Lin Tao also remembered that she had been in a daze last night, her whole body aching, and she had unknowingly climbed into bed and fallen asleep. Thinking about what she had just done, she felt both ashamed and angry, and her whole face turned as red as if it were about to bleed.

She said, both annoyed and aggrieved, "Even if I'm sleeping here, you can't treat me like this!"

My face flushed with embarrassment, and I felt a pang of helplessness. I was half asleep and had mistaken her for someone else; it was all an unconscious act, not a deliberate attempt to take liberties with her.

I was just trying to figure out how to properly apologize and appease her when I saw her puff out her cheeks and, with a hint of embarrassment and anger, say domineeringly, "I don't care, you've bullied me, you have to be my boyfriend!"
