My Dongguan Love Story

Chapter 234 Lin Guilian's Parents Arrive

After depositing all the money into the bank, Chen Siyao held the brand-new passbook, her heart finally at ease. The money was safely stored away; she no longer had to worry about it being stolen.

"Let's go." She got on the motorcycle and urged me to head straight to the hospital, eager to tell her mother the good news.

When we arrived at the ward, Wu Lijuan took the bankbook and saw the amount on it. Her cheeks flushed slightly with excitement, and she repeatedly looked up at me to thank me, saying, "Thank you so much, Dazhuang. Without your help, we would never have gotten this money back."

I waved my hand and replied with a smile, "It's nothing, as long as the money is back. You two have a good chat, I have to go now!"

After saying that, I turned and left.

As Wu Lijuan watched my departing figure, she couldn't help but sigh to her daughter beside her, "Dazhuang is such a reliable and warm-hearted boy. It's just a pity that he already has a girlfriend. Otherwise, you could spend more time with him and see if you're compatible."

Chen Siyao's cheeks flushed as she listened, and she said shyly in a soft voice, "Mom, please don't talk nonsense."

I walked to the ward, greeted Shufen, and then pushed open the door to see Lin Guilian.

She's been in the hospital for so long and has been so bored, with nothing to do. I bought her a lot of novels to keep her entertained, and she's engrossed in reading them right now.

As soon as I reached the bedside, she saw me and immediately put down the book she was holding. Smiling, she reached out and hugged my neck, snuggling close to me affectionately for a while before softly asking, "Dazhuang, what have you been busy with these past few days? You haven't come to keep me company for quite some time."

I smiled and gently coaxed her, "There have been too many trivial matters at the factory lately, and I really couldn't find the time. As soon as I finally had some free time, I rushed over as soon as possible."

Lin Guilian responded and then looked at me, saying, "It's quite a coincidence. My parents arrived at the train station around 5 p.m., and I was worried about who would pick them up, but you just happened to arrive."

These words startled me, and I quickly asked, "What? Your aunt and uncle are coming today?"

Lin Guilian nodded, looking puzzled, and said, "My family called before, asking if I had a boyfriend in Guangdong. I told them the truth, and who knew they would buy train tickets and come over without saying a word."

Upon hearing this, my heart sank, and I couldn't help but feel secretly worried.

Judging from their demeanor, Guilian's parents have clearly come specifically to see me, and most likely to finalize our marriage. What if they suddenly bring it up on the spot and urge Guilian and me to settle the marriage? How am I supposed to handle that?

Seeing my troubled expression, Lin Guilian couldn't help but laugh and tease, "My dad's probably here to see his future son-in-law. Why don't we just get married?"

I sighed helplessly. She knew my situation, and besides, we hadn't been together for very long, so talking about marriage was too hasty.

I lit a cigarette and gazed out the window, quietly calming my mind.

At four o'clock in the afternoon, I rode my motorcycle to the train station ahead of time and successfully picked up Guilian's parents at the exit, following the location given on the phone.

The two elderly people looked rather old, which suggests that they often worked hard and traveled around all year round, exposed to the wind and sun, making them look a few years older than their actual age.

I rode my motorcycle with my parents to the hospital. They quickly entered the ward, and as soon as they saw their daughter on the bed, they rushed over anxiously to check her injuries, asking hurriedly, "Guilian, are your injuries any better? Are you feeling any better now?"

Seeing her parents' worried expressions, Lin Guilian smiled and gently comforted them, "I'm almost fully recovered. The doctor said I can be discharged in the next couple of days and go home to rest."

Her mother was relieved, then turned to me and said gently, "Dazhuang, could you please go out and buy some food? We're all a little hungry."

I readily nodded and agreed: "No problem."

After I finished speaking, I went out to buy dinner.

As soon as I left, there was no one else in the ward. Guilian's mother immediately said, "I didn't want you to be with Lin Ping back then, but you can't just date anyone."

Upon hearing this, Lin Guilian immediately felt unhappy and retorted with a frown, "What's wrong with me being with Dazhuang? He's tall and handsome, and he's always been very considerate to me. I genuinely like him."

Her mother's face darkened, her tone turning cold: "Yes, he's tall and handsome, you like him, but don't other women like him? Do you really think I don't know he has several girlfriends?"

Lin Guilian froze on the spot, staring blankly at her mother, her voice full of astonishment: "How...how did you know about these things?"

"How would I know?" the mother scoffed. "When Tang Yan went back to her hometown last time, she told me everything. If she hadn't come and told me, I would still be completely in the dark."

Upon learning the truth, Lin Guilian was both angry and annoyed, her heart filled with resentment. She had finally managed to get Tang Yan to completely leave her and Dazhuang's lives, but she never expected that the other party would secretly sow discord between them, clearly unable to bear seeing her and Dazhuang together happily.

Seeing her daughter's surprised expression, Guilian's mother immediately realized that Tang Yan was telling the truth. She said calmly, "Since the doctor said you can be discharged in the next couple of days, let's just get the paperwork done tomorrow and come back to our hometown with us."

Upon hearing this, Lin Guilian sat up abruptly in bed, shaking her head repeatedly, "Mom, I'm not going back!"

"If you insist on not leaving, then when Dazhuang comes back, I will talk to him face to face and ask him why he is still bothering you when he already has a girlfriend."

The mother's face darkened, her heart filled with anger. She learned from Tang Yan that her daughter had taken the initiative to pursue Dazhuang, knowing full well that he was entangled in complicated relationships, yet she had still fallen head over heels for him, which made her both angry and heartbroken.

Hearing her mother say this, Lin Guilian instantly lost her confidence. She didn't want to embarrass her parents and Dazhuang at all, and she was still planning to get along well with Dazhuang in the future.

Going back to her hometown to recuperate for a while wouldn't be a bad thing. After all, she could only rest after being discharged from the hospital and couldn't do heavy work. She could just find an opportunity to sneak back later. Having made up her mind, she simply nodded in agreement.

The father, standing to the side, frowned the entire time, silently smoking and not uttering a word. He was an honest and simple farmer, usually quiet, and his wife mostly made the decisions at home. At this moment, he just silently smoked and watched the mother and daughter argue.

A short while later, I carried the packed food into the ward. As soon as I entered, I could clearly sense that the atmosphere in the room was strange. I glanced at Lin Guilian, then at her parents, and silently set the food on the table, inviting everyone to eat together.

After dinner, Lin Guilian's parents said they were going downstairs for a walk to digest their food, and then they left, leaving only the two of us in the ward.

Lin Guilian suddenly threw herself into my arms, her eyes filled with reluctance to part with me. After a long silence, she finally told me that her parents were worried about her health and planned to take her back to their hometown to recuperate for a while.

After listening, I nodded and said softly, "You just had surgery, so you really should take good care of yourself. You can come back when you've fully recovered."

Lin Guilian obediently responded, looked up at me, and passionately leaned in to kiss me tightly, unwilling to let go for a long time. Because she hadn't fully recovered, she couldn't be intimate with me no matter how much she wanted to.

After a long while, she finally let go of me, leaned against me, and said in a muffled voice, "Dazhuang, I really don't want to leave."

I reached out and hugged her, gently comforting her, "If you miss me, you can come to Dongguan to see me anytime after you've recovered."

Her parents will be staying in the ward with her tonight, so it's not convenient for me to stay long. I'll prepare to leave when they return. As I reach the door, I run into Shufen, and I say with a smile, "Shufen, Guilian is being discharged tomorrow. Thank you so much for taking such good care of her these past few days."

Upon hearing this, Shufen immediately felt a little disappointed. This job was easy and comfortable; she only had to help deliver meals and look after things on weekdays, and she could earn five times the normal wage. Naturally, she was extremely reluctant to lose such a good job.
