Chapter 17: Label Overlay

Noticing the person next to Blake, Simon and the girl cast curious glances at Li En. "Blake, who is this...?"

"Oh, let me introduce you," Blake grabbed Rean's shoulder, "This is my good buddy I met this semester, his name is Rean Welsh. He's got great grades, even Eli Thorne and Cole Osborne acknowledge his talent!"

Upon hearing that both Professor Eli and Professor Osborn acknowledged Rean's talent, Simon and the girl immediately showed slightly surprised expressions.

"That's impressive, then I must get to know you," Simon said, extending his hand to Li En. "My name is Simon Byrne, the eldest son of the Earl of Byrne. Your family is...?"

"Baron," Li En said without any hesitation, shaking hands with Simon. In his opinion, all nobles were the same. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

The girl next to her smiled and extended her hand, "My name is Linda Roland, the daughter of a viscount."

Lee Eun also shook hands with her, and at the same time, chose to copy her label first.

After all, Li En wanted to figure out first whether copying the same label would cause any overlap or produce any other effects.

[Copying has begun]

"It will only take half an hour..."

Li En muttered something under his breath, but no one noticed him speaking.

While chatting, it was their turn to order. Li En wasn't very hungry, but thinking that since they were already there, it would be better to order something.

After all, he couldn't just sit there and chat with Linda and Simon for half an hour.

So he ordered a plate of ham slices and a fried egg, along with a cup of coffee with sugar.

"Coffee?" Simon asked, somewhat puzzled, when he saw what Li En had ordered. "I didn't expect you to like this kind of thing."

Li En casually replied, "I prefer this bitter taste, but of course, I usually drink tea more often."

Simon nodded slightly.

Linda was a little curious, so she also ordered a cup of coffee exactly the same as Li En's, wanting to try what it tasted like.

As the four of them were looking for a place to sit down, Li En suddenly heard a familiar voice in the cafeteria.

Estelle sat in the far corner of the dining hall, like a little squirrel, munching on a piece of black bread without even butter.

At most, she only had a cheap cup of black tea, which couldn't even be refilled, to help her swallow, which seemed rather disheartening.

"Aishie," Li En stepped forward and asked, "Is this place taken? Can we sit down?"

Estelle looked up and saw Li En and the people beside him. She nodded timidly, "Y-yes..."

Everyone sat down at the square table, and Estelle skillfully shrank to the edge, leaving the seat next to her for Li En.

"Perfect timing, I was just talking to Li En about the London serial killer." In these moments of leisure, chatting about social issues had become a daily routine for these aristocratic youths. "So, are you fans of that serial killer?"

Simon scoffed, spreading jam on the toast in his hand. "How could that be? This serial killer is causing chaos in London. I wish Scotland Yard would catch him soon and execute him in public!"

No wonder he's labeled a swordsmanship master; he has a terrible temper.

"Linda, what about you?" Blake asked.

Linda smiled and picked up her coffee cup. "I think that, to some extent, the serial killer has also solved some of the social security problems."

"After all, everyone knows how dangerous the nights in London are."

"Robbery, pickpocketing, fraud, and street fights are all dangerous factors at night, but now that this serial killer is around, the nighttime security has actually improved, and the frequency of deaths has even decreased significantly."

Blake was somewhat surprised. "So you're a fan of that serial killer?"

"No, that's not it," Linda said, bringing the coffee cup to her lips. "While we advocate for freedom, I believe that private interests should not be placed above the law."

"Even the king of this country is bound by the law. If someone is above the law, doesn't that mean he is more noble than the king?"

After saying that, Linda took a sip of coffee and almost vomited from the bitter taste.

"This tea is so...so bitter!"

Linda stuck out her tongue, clearly enjoying the bitter taste, and asked as if she'd never heard of coffee before, "What is this?"

Li En picked up a small glass of milk, poured it into Linda's coffee cup, added a sugar cube, stirred it, and said, "Why don't you try it now?"

Linda seemed to have made a great decision before picking up her coffee cup again and taking a sip.

"Um?"

Her eyes lit up slightly as she asked Li En.

"This tastes so much better! Did you use some kind of magic?"

Simon muttered, "What nonsense are you spouting among the students majoring in occultism..."

"If you find the coffee too bitter, you can try adding this," Li En said with a smile. "Milk can soften the taste of the coffee and make the flavor more layered, while sugar cubes can alleviate some of the bitterness."

Linda looked enlightened. "You know so much."

Watching Li En and Linda chat, Estelle took small bites of her black bread, glancing at them every now and then, before sitting down next to Li En.

"Do you want some?"

Li En noticed Estelle's subtle movements and pushed his plate in front of her, saying, "I've already had breakfast."

Before Estelle could even refuse, she heard Li En resume his conversation with the others.

Feeling bad for interrupting their conversation, Estelle had no choice but to accept, and quietly said thank you.

Being fed like this every day, she feels like she's being raised into a pet!

As they chatted over tea, time flew by for the leisurely rich young men.

While chatting with everyone, Li En kept an eye on the countdown for copying the labels.

Finally, half an hour passed.

[Label copied]

[Born Investigator]

[Effect: Increases sensitivity to spiritual and unusual entities by 100%]

The moment the label was copied, in addition to these three lines of text, new text appeared.

[The existence of a pre-label has been confirmed]

[The Innate Investigator has been upgraded to Lv2]

[Born Investigator Lv2]

[Effect 1: Increases sensitivity to spiritual and unusual entities by 150%]

[Effect 2: When someone tries to influence you with an anomalous object, you can vaguely sense the general direction of the attack.]

The "Born Investigator" trait has been upgraded to Lv2!

Li En observed carefully and found that not only was the original effect improved, but his ability to perceive inspiration and anomalies increased from 100% to 150%, and he also gained a new effect.

"Being able to sense general directions? That's a kind of special ability."

Li En thought this was good news, as it meant that she could replicate the same label multiple times and develop different abilities on the same label.

Next, it's time to replicate Simon's label as a master swordsman.

Just as Li En looked up, wanting to copy Simon's label.

He suddenly realized something.

The words above Linda's head suddenly changed.

The "Born Investigator" could have been copied, but it has disappeared, which is normal, since Lee Eun has already copied it.

Instead, a completely new label has been introduced.

[Copyable Label: Fraudster]

[Effect: If you are firm enough, you can get someone to believe a lie that isn't too outrageous.]

It's another label similar to "tyrant," with special effects.

However, none of these were the main reasons that attracted Li En's attention.

More importantly, the characters above Linda's head, which should have been in the name section, were obscured by the thick fog and could not be seen with the naked eye or by the investigators.

But now, Li En can see it.

The gray fog dissipated, and the true name was revealed.

The girl's real name was revealed to Li En.

Name: Ruby Frederick
