Chapter 60: The King's Theater

Wearing a brand-new, expensive custom-made evening gown, Lee Eun stood at the entrance of the King's Theater.

The towering, snow-white buildings stood behind him like mountains piled up with countless skeletons. Combined with the stench emanating from the Thames in the air, London gained an unexpected sense of dread.

Even though it was evening, the King's Theatre, being a social venue for the nobility, was still brightly lit.

Carriages sped through the streets, while male servants, attendants, and theater attendants bustled back and forth in the area in front of the theater, looking utterly overwhelmed. Meanwhile, the noble gentlemen and ladies leisurely enjoyed the conveniences provided by others.

Li En didn't speak, but instead searched his field of vision for anything that could be used to copy the label.

Feeling the collar in his pocket, which was slightly peeling, Li En had started carrying it with him, along with a box of matches, just in case.

Before long, a familiar, gentle fragrance entered his nostrils.

"Have you been waiting long?"

Li En looked in the direction of the sound and saw Ruby stepping down from a low-key black carriage. An ordinary-looking servant opened the door for her and helped her down.

Ruby was also dressed in a formal evening gown, the skirt of which was made of deep purple taffeta, which shimmered very subtly under the lights, but not glaringly, exuding a noble and understated elegance.

The neckline wasn't high, and a string of jeweled necklace hung around her neck, making her neck and collarbone stand out.

The evening gown had a wide skirt, like a cluster of flowers trailing behind her, with layers of folds hanging down, making her look like a slowly flowing stream when she walked.

Ruby tugged at her velvet-trimmed shawl, twirling its tassels, and chuckled as she asked Lee, "How is it? Doesn't it look a little different from how I usually see you at school?"

Lee smiled and nodded. "It is indeed a little different, but Miss Linda is always so eye-catching."

Even passersby couldn't help but stop and stare at Ruby's exquisite attire.

Looking at her plain features, hidden behind a hard mask, people couldn't help but sigh with regret.

It would be even better if it were prettier.

They all had this idea.

"Let's go," Ruby said, extending her hand. She wore long white gloves that fit snugly, making her fingers appear slender and delicate, like scallions. "Now is your chance to show your gentlemanly manners."

Li En responded helplessly, moved closer to her, and let her put her arm around the inside of his arm.

As soon as the two entered the King's Theatre, Li En glanced at the ticket counter, where a long queue had already formed.

He had originally intended to ask Ruby to wait for him a moment, but before he could even speak, a waiter in uniform tiptoed across the soft red carpet and quickly approached the two of them.

"Excuse me, are you Miss Linda Rowland?"

Ruby nodded slightly. "It's me."

The waiter bowed and gestured for the two to enter. "Please come with me. The private room has been prepared for you. Please let me know if you need anything."

"So you've already bought the tickets?" Li En muttered to herself.

Ruby seemed a little proud. "You're really not like a nobleman. What nobleman would squeeze in with commoners to buy tickets? You don't actually want to sit with me in the balcony section, do you?"

Li En remained silent; he had absolutely no say in this matter…

Led by a waiter, the two walked slowly to the exit.

As the name suggests, this door will separate the audience. The staff only need to take a look to know whether you are sitting in a box, the stalls, or the balcony, and will direct you to the appropriate direction.

"Please come in, Miss Linda Rowland, Mr. Lee En Wales," the staff member who was originally sitting in a chair to direct the flow of people stood up abruptly and bowed respectfully upon seeing Ruby. "I hope you two will enjoy tonight's drama."

Ruby simply nodded.

Ascending the staircase leading to the upper levels, each floor has a specific number of private boxes, which can be reserved by nobles of different statuses depending on the viewing angle.

The best angles are naturally reserved for nobles of higher status.

"There's still a little while before the show starts," the waiter said softly to Li En and Ruby as he walked ahead. "Would you like to rest in the tea area for a while, or go straight to the private room?"

Ruby looked at Li En, "So? What do you think?"

Li En thought for a moment and figured there should be quite a few people in the tea and snack area, and those who would gather in the private rooms should be a group of people of considerable status in London.

The likelihood of this group being flagged is not low.

"Then please take us to the tea and snack area first," Li En casually made up an excuse, "I suddenly feel like having a cup of coffee."

Without giving a hasty response, the waiter first glanced at Ruby discreetly, and only after receiving an affirmative answer from Ruby did he lead the two of them to the tea and snack area.

From the corridor of the rest area all the way to the bar in front of the tea and snack area, Li En saw many nobles exchanging pleasantries and business cards.

The ladies were even more direct, sizing each other up with their clothing and using fabrics and decorations to distinguish each other's status.

If someone is of high status, fawn over them; if someone is of low status, pretend you didn't see them.

Ruby clearly disdained to chat with this group of ordinary nobles, and didn't even bother to look at the fabric of their clothes; her attention was entirely on Li En.

"Hello," Li En said to the bartender, "a smoked salmon sandwich and a coffee, please, thank you..."

Before he could finish saying thank you, Li En realized what was happening and asked Ruby, "What would you like?"

"I should thank you for remembering me," Ruby remarked, then said to the waiter, "Two coffees, please."

The waiter nodded slightly and went to prepare for the two of them.

Li En knew in advance that all food and drinks in the private room's tea and snack area were free; otherwise, he wouldn't have wanted to order food in such a luxurious place.

A cup of Coke can cost ten or twenty dollars in a movie theater, so he couldn't imagine how much a cup of ordinary black tea could cost in a place like the King's Theatre.

Looking around the crowd, Li En quickly spotted what he wanted.

[Warrior of Materialism]

Sword Master

Unrequited love

Unrequited love

Four labels were clearly visible in Lee Eun's field of vision.

"It was definitely worth the trip."

Li En muttered to himself and dragged these tags into his copy field at the same time.

"Sir, Madam," the waiter said, placing two cups of coffee on the table with a silver tray and a plate of smoked salmon sandwiches. "Please enjoy."

Li En picked up her coffee and took a sip, while Ruby was just about to add evaporated milk.

"Don't you find it bitter?" Ruby asked curiously.

Li En shrugged. "You'll get used to it. Can anything be more bitter than life itself?"

Logically speaking, given Ruby's status, she shouldn't be able to understand that sentence.

After all, given her status, she is already happier than 99% of the people in London.

But after hearing this, Ruby was silent for two seconds.

She put down the condensed milk in her hand and, imitating Li En, took a sip of bitter coffee.

The bitter taste lingered on her tongue, and a complex smile appeared on Ruby's face.

"That's really true..."

The time spent copying always flies by. Savoring the bitter coffee and the smoked salmon sandwich whose taste was hard to describe, Lee En suddenly felt that taking a break was a good option.

Suddenly, a commotion arose from the crowd in the tea area. Lee Eun, who was copying labels, was drawn to the noise and looked in the direction of the sound.

Before he could even see the specific person, Li En spotted two lines of characters suspended above the crowd, surrounded by thick fog.

Strangely, the two lines of characters surrounded by thick fog were a name and an effect, respectively.

The name on the label was completely and unmistakably exposed to Lee En's view.

[Copyable label: Mephisto]

What kind of label is this?
