There weren't many people on Nanshan Old Street, with only a few secondhand shops and antique stalls scattered around.
Yun Ziang carried Xiao Jin as they looked around. There were quite a few copper coins, but Xiao Jin either thought one was too new or another didn't have enough gold to look good. She didn't find anything she liked after looking at several stores.
Just as the two were about to change streets to continue their search, they heard a commotion ahead.
A crowd had gathered at the corner of the old street, three or four deep, some taking photos with their phones, others whispering among themselves.
A loud, gruff voice rang out from the crowd, mixed with an old man's low, hoarse pleas.
"You old fool, you're blind! You set up your stall in front of my car, blocking my way and you want me to pay for it? I'll slap you across the face, you hear me?!" The speaker was a man in his forties, burly and thick-waisted, with a thick gold chain around his neck, a buzz cut, and a face full of menacing features. He was standing with one foot on an old man's secondhand stall.
Scattered on the ground were copper coins, old coins, and several strings of loose beads.
The old man squatted on the ground, his body hunched over, wiping away tears with his sleeve as he shakily picked up his belongings.
A black SUV parked next to them had a rather deep scratch on its body. The man pointed at the scratch and continued to yell and complain:
"See that? My brand new car, and this old geezer's tricycle scratched it! He's not leaving today without paying 20,000 yuan!"
The old man's lips trembled as he tried to explain, "It was clearly your car that grazed me first. I'm just a street vendor, I don't dare cause trouble..."
"You dare talk back?" The man grabbed the old man by the collar.
Yun Zi'ang's face immediately darkened.
He pulled Xiao Jin closer to his chest, strode into the crowd, and said in a voice that was not loud but loud enough for everyone present to hear clearly: "In broad daylight, a grown man bullying an old man, he really has no shame at all."
All eyes immediately turned to them.
The man, still clutching the old man's collar, turned and saw it was a young man. He sized him up, scoffed, and sneered with a crooked mouth and narrow eyes:
"Where did this living saint come from? What business is it of yours if I settle accounts with this old man? Don't try to be a hero here, get lost."
Yun Zi'ang didn't even frown, his tone light and airy:
"I wasn't trying to be a hero; I just saw injustice and stepped in. If your car is scratched, you go to your insurance company; what kind of skill is it to lay a hand on an elderly person?"
The man loosened the old man's collar, shoving him until he stumbled. He turned to face Yun Zi'ang, pointed a finger at his nose, and said viciously:
"You little brat, watch your mouth. That old bastard scratched my car, who else is going to pay for it if not him? Are you going to pay for it for him?"
Just as Yun Ziang was about to retort, he felt Xiao Jin gently pat his shoulder.
Looking down, Xiao Jin was blinking and carefully examining the man's face.
Xiao Jin's expression changed after just one glance.
The man continued to ramble on, his expression fierce and his eyes sinister; he was clearly no good person.
Xiao Jin gently tugged at Yun Ziang's collar, leaned close to his ear, and whispered, "Grand-nephew, this person seems a bit off."
Yun Zi'ang tilted his head slightly: "What's wrong?"
Xiao Jin didn't rush to answer. The fierce-looking man in front of her, with his face full of scars, looked absolutely awful.
The dark, needle-like line between the eyebrows, swirling and piercing the life palace, is an ominous sign indicating potential injury or punishment. The crooked and cracked nasolabial folds at the corners of the mouth and the drooping tip of the nose suggest imprisonment in early years.
Even more serious was the bulging eyes and prominent cheekbones, indicating a strong murderous intent. What truly alarmed her was the presence of two blue moles on either side of the person's nose.
This is one of the most ominous signs in physiognomy books.
"A hanging needle breaks the seal, a blue mole indicates bloodshed." Xiao Jin said softly, her tone no longer soft and gentle, but with a sense of certainty. "Master said that people with this kind of face have blood on their hands, and not just the kind of blood from fights, but from murder."
Yun Ziang was stunned.
He looked at the man again. The man was still cursing and had the same fierce appearance. But he was just a coward who bullied the weak and feared the strong. Yun Zi'ang never expected that he could have killed someone.
Xiao Jin whispered in his ear, "A blue mole on the bridge of the nose and a crooked philtrum with a scar indicate a history of murder."
"He killed someone, and it happened quite some time ago, at least five years ago. His eyebrows are sparse, and the dark aura between his eyebrows hasn't faded in five years. It doesn't look like self-defense; it's intentional homicide."
"Most importantly, the angry lines at the corners of the eyes are accompanied by red veins, and there is a grayish-black aura in the temples that runs straight to the life palace, faintly revealing an image of hiding and running around."
"This means he's still hiding, and is very likely still a fugitive!"
Upon hearing this, Yun Ziang's expression changed slightly, but he did not reveal any flaws on his face.
He subtly moved a step to the side, using his body to block the man's view, letting Xiao Jin hide behind his shoulder, and asked in a low voice, "Are you sure?"
"Your face can't be faked," Xiao Jin said. "Grand-nephew, hurry and find the police."
Yun Ziang didn't ask any more questions. He turned to the side, took out his phone, and dialed the police.
Seeing Yun Ziang take out his phone, the man assumed he was going to call for backup and sneered, "Calling for backup, huh? I've never been afraid of anyone around here. How many can you call?"
Yun Ziang ignored him and whispered his location and situation into the phone.
After hanging up the phone, he looked up at the man, his expression calm, and said nothing.
The man seemed to read something in his eyes, and his expression instantly became alert.
The man's cursing subsided, and his eyes began to dart left and right.
He took a step back, then another, and then suddenly turned around, shoved the crowd of onlookers, and tried to run towards the black SUV parked on the side of the road.
Just as Yun Ziang was about to give chase, he suddenly felt a lightness in his arms. Xiao Jin had already slipped off him, ran to the roadside, picked up an old copper coin that had rolled into the dust, and threw it at Yun Ziang.
"Catch it."
Yun Zi'ang took it immediately, asking in confusion, "What's this?"
As Xiao Jin spoke, she gently nudged the ground with her tiny, small foot, and an inconspicuous pebble rolled onto the man's escape route.
"Taiping Tongbao, a Song Dynasty copper coin, with a strong metallic sheen and a long history, exactly what we're looking for!" Xiao Jin patted the dust off her hands, then picked up an empty soda can that someone had thrown away by the roadside, tossed it casually, and it rolled precisely to the man's feet.
The man was sprinting when he slipped on a pebble after only a few steps. He lost his balance and before he could regain it, his left foot stepped on a round aluminum can. He slipped again and was thrown sideways in mid-air before crashing face-first to the ground with a thud.
He struggled to get up, but Xiao Jin had already walked up to him at some point, and a pair of small shoes came into his view.
Xiao Jin looked down at him, her little face serious, and said earnestly, "Xiao Jin won't let you have it."
The man winced in pain, looked up and saw a four-year-old child. Just as he was about to curse, Xiao Jin nimbly climbed onto the man and sat steadily on his back, pressing him back to the ground.
The man instantly felt as if a stone was pressing on his back, and he couldn't move a single finger.
The onlookers stared in disbelief at the scene.
The police arrived quickly, and several officers swiftly dispersed the onlookers. Xiao Jin saw a young policeman approaching, jumped off the man, and retreated to Yun Ziang's side.
Xiao Jin pointed a finger at the man: "Officer, this is a bad guy, he's killed someone!"
The man, his face pressed against the ground, struggled violently upon hearing this, shouting at the top of his lungs, "Bullshit! What murder? Don't listen to a child's nonsense!"
"I just had a few words with that old man, scratched the car, that's all. I just need to pay for it, why are you arresting me!"
His voice was loud, but he lacked confidence, and his eyes kept glancing at the black SUV parked on the side of the road.
The young policeman ignored his shouting, squatted down, and said in a businesslike tone, "Show me your ID card."
The man lay on the ground, his eyes darting around, before forcing a fawning smile: "Officer, I didn't bring my ID with me; I left it in the car. Please let me get up, I'll go get it from the car."
The young policeman looked at him but didn't move.
Seeing this, the man added, "Really, it's in the armrest box. Don't believe me? Come with me to get it."
The young policeman gave his colleague a wink, signaling him to check the car for an ID. The colleague had just turned and taken two steps toward the SUV when the man suddenly sprang to his feet, shoved aside a bystander, and ran off towards the other end of the old street.
He was fast, but the young policeman was even faster.
Almost the instant he stood up, the young policeman darted after him, taking three steps at a time, grabbing the man by the back of his collar, and using the momentum of his forward movement to pull him to the side. The man lost his balance and fell heavily to the ground.
The young policeman pressed his knee against his back, and with a click, the handcuffs were neatly fastened.
"Why are you running?" The young policeman caught his breath, pulled the man up from the ground, and said in a cold tone, "If you're not doing anything wrong, what are you feeling guilty about?"
The man, handcuffed behind his back, his face flushed red, kept shouting, "I was just nervous! You can't accuse me of murder just because I was nervous!"
At this moment, the old policeman who had been comforting the old man selling antiques heard the commotion and slowly walked over.
He was in his early fifties, with some graying temples and deep, etched wrinkles on his face.
He stopped in front of the man, squinted and looked him up and down, his brows gradually furrowing.
"You look vaguely familiar." The older policeman, with his hands behind his back, tilted his head and looked at her for a while before suddenly asking, "What's your name?"
The man turned his face away, refusing to meet his gaze: "Zhang... Zhang Wei."
"Zhang Wei?" The old policeman chuckled. "That's a common name. Where are you from?"
"Local," the man mumbled.
The older policeman didn't ask him any more questions, but turned to the younger policeman and said, "Take him aside and verify his identity first."
The young policeman nodded.
The veteran policeman watched his apprentice lead the man away, then turned and swept his gaze across the crowd of onlookers before asking in a strong, clear voice, "Who called the police just now?"
Yun Zi'ang, carrying Xiao Jin, stepped out from the edge of the crowd: "I signed up."
The old policeman looked him up and down, then glanced at the four-year-old girl in his arms. The little girl was perched on Yun Ziang's shoulder, looking completely innocent, and seemed to have nothing to do with the feat of sitting on a man like a stool just now.
"Alright, come back to the station with me to make a statement." After saying that, the old policeman turned around and waved to the old antique seller who was still picking up copper coins. "Old man, you come too, and tell me what happened earlier."
The old man straightened up, shakily stuffed the last copper coin into his pocket, and sighed, "Alright, alright, go, go."
After confirming the identity, the young policeman's expression changed drastically. He jogged over to the older policeman, his voice unconsciously rising a half-octave: "Master, it's confirmed."
"This person is a fugitive suspect in a murder case in a neighboring province seven years ago, and is wanted by an A-level warrant holder."
As soon as he finished speaking, the crowd erupted in uproar.
"A wanted criminal?! No wonder he didn't look like a good person, those eyes were so fierce..."
"A Class A wanted criminal! I was just two meters away from him, only two meters!"
The man who had been shouting moments before now looked ashen-faced and pale-lipped as he listened to the murmurs around him. His legs went weak and he almost couldn't stand up.
The young policeman grabbed his arm and led him toward the police car.
The man lowered his head, not daring to look anyone in the eye, and stopped shouting.
The old man stared in disbelief at the scene, when he suddenly felt his clothes being tugged. He looked down and was met with a fair and lovely little face.
Xiao Jin pointed to the copper coin in Yun Ziang's hand, "Grandpa, how much is this copper coin?"
The old man glanced at the copper coins, then at the little brocade in Yun Zi'ang's arms, and waved his hand:
"Take it, take it. You've helped me a lot today, so it's yours."
The old man smiled and said earnestly, "Thank you, Grandpa!"
The old man beamed at her call, his wrinkles smoothing out: "Oh, you're welcome, you're a good girl."
Yun Ziang reacted instantly, quickly put away the copper coins, and gave Xiao Jin a thumbs up.
It has to be his little aunt!
In the time it takes to find a copper coin, you can even catch a wanted criminal!
