Chapter 77 Arresting Wei Chengwen
After Yun Ziqian finished speaking, he put away his phone and turned to leave the ward.
His work style is exactly the same as Yun Mingyi's: decisive and efficient, giving no one time to react.
Yun Ziang had been used to his older brother's behavior since he was a child. He knew that if he chased after him and asked "What do you plan to do?", he would only get a scolding. So he simply shut his mouth and obediently sat back on the sofa.
But he was not idle either.
Yun Zi'ang sent the license plate number he had photographed to Yun Ziqian, and also asked a few friends with connections in the vehicle management office and traffic management department to help him check.
At 3 p.m., two black minivans were parked in the distance in front of an old residential building in the southwest of the city.
Wei Chengwen bought two bags of frozen dumplings at the supermarket and slowly walked back carrying the plastic bags.
He lived on the sixth floor, where there was no elevator. One of the motion-activated lights in the hallway was broken, so he walked to the door, fumbled for his keys in the dark, and opened it.
The living room lights came on the moment the door was pushed open.
Wei Chengwen stopped moving.
The living room wasn't very big. The sofa was an old brown leather sofa, and there were two photo frames on the coffee table. One was a family photo of the four of them, and the other was a photo of the two brothers. The edges of the photo frames were worn white, showing that they had been picked up and handled many times.
The coffee table is still in its usual spot, but someone is sitting on the sofa.
It is Yun Ziqian.
He was wearing a dark gray shirt with the cuffs rolled up to his forearms, and he was leaning back against the sofa, looking as relaxed as if he were sitting in his own living room.
Four bodyguards in black suits stood behind him, each with a blank expression and their hands behind their backs.
There was another person standing behind the door. When Wei Chengwen pushed the door open and came in, that person's hand was already on his shoulder.
Wei Chengwen's shoulder was held down by the bodyguard, and the plastic bag in his hand fell to the ground with a thud. The packaging box of frozen dumplings slid out of the bag and hit the tiles with a dull thud.
"What are you doing!" He struggled but couldn't break free; his face flushed red. "This is my house! You're trespassing!"
Yun Ziqian raised his eyelids and glanced at him, without getting up or raising his voice, his tone flat: "Trespassing? You're talking to me about the law?"
He tilted his head slightly, his gaze falling on Wei Chengwen's face, a faint, cold smile appearing on his lips: "How can a murderer be qualified to talk about the law?"
Wei Chengwen's expression changed.
It wasn't fear, but a somber feeling of something being touched.
He was held down by his bodyguard and stood in the entryway, looking at Yun Ziqian on the sofa three meters away. Suddenly, he grinned, but it was an ugly and cold smile.
"Yun Zi'ang is dead?" He paused, his smile deepening, a near-fanatical light shining in his eyes. "That's wonderful."
Before he could finish speaking, there was another knock on the door.
Yun Ziqian didn't move, but raised his chin towards the door.
The bodyguard stepped forward and opened the door.
There were three people standing outside the door.
Yun Ziang stood at the front, wearing a clean white T-shirt, with not a single scratch on his face, looking very energetic.
He held Xiao Jin's hand with his right hand. Xiao Jin had two crooked little pigtails and was standing on tiptoe, curiously peering into the house.
Qiu An stood behind the two, his bandages still on, a band-aid on his forehead, his handsome face as expressionless as ever, his gaze passing over Yun Ziang's shoulder and coldly landing on Wei Chengwen.
Wei Chengwen's smile froze.
He stared intently at Yun Ziang's perfectly intact face.
No scars, no injuries, and he even looked more energetic than when I last saw him on the track.
"You..." Wei Chengwen's lips trembled, his eyes darting rapidly between Yun Zi'ang and Yun Ziqian before finally fixing on Yun Zi'ang's face. "How could you possibly still be alive?"
His voice suddenly rose, becoming incredibly sharp:
"The embankment collapsed! Such a huge rock fell down! You should have died on the track! How could you still be alive!"
Yun Zi'ang ignored him and just kept staring at Wei Chengwen's face.
He frowned and stared at it for a long time.
"I don't know you," Yun Ziang finally spoke, his tone filled with genuine confusion. "I've never seen you before."
Yun Ziqian stood up from the sofa, bent down to pick up the two photo frames on the coffee table, and looked at them.
The first picture frame shows a family of four: a father, a mother, and two boys.
The mother smiled gently. The two children, one chubby and one thin, had their arms around the thin one's shoulders, and both were smiling brightly.
The second photo frame contains a picture of the two brothers. One is a tall, chubby boy wearing glasses with a tight smile. The other is Wei Chengwen, who was young then, with no stubble on his chin and a much cleaner look in his eyes than he does now.
"Wei Chengwen," Yun Ziqian said slowly, still holding the photo frame in his hand, "twenty-four years old, a local. Your parents divorced when you were eight, and you stayed with your father, but he remarried soon after. You had a very good relationship with your brother. Three years ago, your brother suffered a depressive episode and committed suicide in his rented apartment."
He placed the photo frame back on the coffee table, glass side down, making a crisp sound. "Am I right?"
Wei Chengwen's shoulders trembled violently.
Once the sore spot was hit, the last layer of gloomy pretense shattered, revealing the pain and ferocity beneath.
He abruptly broke free from the bodyguard's grasp, took a step forward, grabbed Yun Ziang's collar, and roared:
"My brother didn't commit suicide! You drove him to his death!"
His eyes were red-rimmed, his voice trembled with emotion, and his accusations came at him like knives:
"You forced him to drop out of school, you ruined him, you killed him! Yun Zi'ang, you're the murderer!"
Yun Zi'ang was completely bewildered by this series of accusations. He subconsciously leaned back, glanced down at Xiao Jin, then looked up at Wei Chengwen, his innocent expression almost irritating.
"Who are you talking about? I really don't remember doing anything like that..."
Yun Ziqian ignored Wei Chengwen's roar, picked up the photo frame in his hand, and threw it at Yun Ziang.
"You fucking aren't allowed to touch my brother's photos!" Wei Chengwen's roar almost lifted the ceiling.
He tried desperately to break free from the bodyguard's grip, but his shoulders were held down tightly, leaving him only able to struggle in place, his eyes red as if they were about to bleed.
Yun Ziang hurriedly caught the photo frame, looked down and saw that the two brothers were standing side by side in the photo, one fat and one thin, the fat one with his arm around the thin one's shoulder, both smiling at the camera.
He stared at the photo for a long time, his brows furrowed.
He didn't recognize Wei Chengwen, but he had a vague impression of the fat guy, as if he had seen him somewhere a long time ago, but he couldn't match the name to the face, and he couldn't even remember his name.
"This is..." He looked up blankly at Wei Chengwen, "Who is your brother?"
Qiu An, who had been silent since entering, suddenly spoke up: "Wei Chengwu."
Yun Zi'ang suddenly turned to look at Qiu An, his expression a mixture of surprise and suspicion: "You know him?"
Qiu An frowned slightly: "A college classmate. But he was expelled in his freshman year, so it's normal that you don't remember him."
Upon hearing the word "expulsion," Wei Chengwen's emotions exploded again: "He was forced into expulsion! It was Yun Ziang who pressured the school to expel my brother!"
He struggled desperately forward, but the bodyguard held him down firmly. His voice was hoarse from shouting, "My brother has such good grades! How could he drop out of school on his own? It's Yun Ziang's fault!"
Qiu An turned her gaze to Wei Chengwen, her eyes revealing a hint of coldness: "Your brother was expelled because of taking photos without permission."
The moment the air fell silent as those four words entered the living room.
Suddenly, a string in Yun Zi'ang's mind snapped.
Taking photos secretly.
His fingers tightened slightly as he gripped the photo frame, and he immediately recalled what had happened three years ago.
He paused for a few seconds, then exclaimed "Ah!" as if suddenly realizing something.
"I remember now!" He pointed to the chubby figure in the photo frame, his voice rising a half-octave, "Wei Chengwu! He's the one I caught red-handed taking pictures up girls' skirts!"
Wei Chengwen was stunned, frozen in place as if struck by lightning.
"What did you say?"
"He took photos secretly." Yun Ziang put down the photo frame, his expression a mixture of long-held anger and present injustice. He looked at Wei Chengwen and said, "He was taking photos up girls' skirts at school. I found out and reported him. Back then, this incident was widely known at the school. You could ask anyone at Huada University to tell you about it."
"Wei Chengwu not only secretly filmed up women's skirts, but also sneaked into bathrooms to film them. He is a repeat offender."
Wei Chengwen's face turned pale instantly, his lips moved as if he wanted to say something but no sound came out.
Yun Ziang looked at him and said seriously, "Your brother was expelled because he was a voyeur, not because I forced him."
"He was detained by the police before, and his counselor bailed him out. He has a criminal record with the police. You can check it yourself if you don't believe me."
"Impossible!" Wei Chengwen's voice wavered for the first time.
He shook his head, as if refusing to accept something collapsing, his voice changing from a roar to a muttered soliloquy, "Impossible... My brother isn't that kind of person, he said he was framed!"
Yun Ziqian picked up his phone again, glanced at the screen, and added the final blow with a blank expression: "Half an hour ago, Ma Xiao went to the police station to turn himself in."
Wei Chengwen suddenly looked up.
"He confessed everything," Yun Ziqian slowly turned his phone screen to show him, "the brake transfer records, chat screenshots, and the recording of the call you told him not to make a fuss."
"I have handed over all the evidence in this house to the police."
His gaze swept past the phone screen and landed on Wei Chengwen's pale face, his tone cold:
"You can investigate your own affairs with your brother. But the police will talk to you about hiring someone to commit murder."
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed in the hallway.
Soon, several uniformed police officers strode in. The one in the lead was a middle-aged officer who held his badge in his hand. He glanced around the living room and his gaze fell on Wei Chengwen.
"Wei Chengwen, you are suspected of instigating others to commit intentional injury. You are hereby summoned in accordance with the law. Please cooperate with the investigation."
Wei Chengwen did not struggle.
He seemed to have all his strength drained away, and stood there blankly as the bodyguard handed him over to the police.
With his hands cuffed behind his back, he suddenly turned his head and took one last look at Yun Ziang.
That glance seemed to be trying to find some answer in Yun Ziang's face, but he himself might never find that answer.
Yun Ziang stood there, watching the police lead Wei Chengwen out of the room.
The clanging of handcuffs in the corridor grew fainter and fainter, and the footsteps gradually disappeared in the stairwell.
Xiao Jin tugged at Yun Ziang's sleeve, looked up at him, and asked cautiously, "Grand-nephew, are you alright?"
Yun Ziang looked down at Xiao Jin, his expression complex, and his voice was much softer than before:
"I'm fine."
"I just feel like... he was lied to by his brother for three years."
Qiu An looked away without replying.
Yun Ziqian stood up from the sofa, straightened his cuffs, walked up to Yun Ziang, and said coldly, "Can you please stop causing trouble?"
After saying that, he lifted his foot to leave, but stopped at the door and added without turning his head:
"Treat me to a meal."
Yun Ziang was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and said, "I understand, brother."
His brother is the best!
