DuckDuckGo is an internet search engine founded in 2008 by Gabriel Weinberger. Unlike most internet companies, it is headquartered in Pennsylvania.

The website's main focus is on protecting user privacy, not tracking users, not storing search history, and not using search terms to create user profiles.

Although they don't have very advanced technology, they do have some impressive features, such as the zero-click information box. They use web crawlers to pre-arrange some search results, so you can get the answer without actually clicking on the link.

Chen Yiran tried it himself. Searching for "the boss of FlowEDA" directly brought up an information box with several photos of his speeches and some other information.

In terms of user numbers, there are currently several million searches per day. Venture capitalists generally value the company at around 20 million, but Chen Yiran offered 25 million and secured the deal immediately.

He wasn't really trying to take on Google head-on, but it was necessary to use it as a deterrent. It didn't require much effort; as long as the search engine remained active, it would be a significant deterrent to Google.

Following the conversation that CNN described as a brutal massacre, Chen Yiran began integrating DuckDuckGo.

The original employees were very loyal to Gabriel, and they all chose to leave and start a new business with Gabriel, who had received the money.

Chen Yiran simply moved the company's headquarters directly to Silicon Valley and temporarily borrowed two offices from FlowEDA.

They casually hired a few technicians to assist them and began to completely rebuild the DuckDuckGo engine.

It not only needed to become more efficient and simpler, but also conveniently integrated Doubao (a type of steamed bun).

His initial goal is that if Google really goes down this path, DuckDuckGo must fill the gaps in Google Search. Then he will need to acquire some companies and further develop email, maps, and video websites to replace Google Mail Maps and YouTube.

And then there's the most troublesome part: Google Play Store and its backend services. System updates, push notifications, location services, and account synchronization all need to be rebuilt.

Finally, if an agreement can be reached with the manufacturer, it's possible to completely rewrite the interface and bootloader, eliminating Google's influence entirely, and essentially using the Android shell to create your own system. You could then continuously develop security patches and driver adaptations, thus completely breaking away from Google's updates.

Chen Yiran completed the initial optimization of DuckDuckGo in a week, completely reshaping the search engine logic.

Then I started secretly researching Android, which technically meant there were no barriers to entry.

The users are the ones who are in trouble. Chen Yiran thought of the language teacher who asked him to use Gmail, and of YouTube, which now has no competitors, and his head started to ache.

There was no other way but to take it one step at a time. First, they updated DuckDuckGo to a brand new version, improving the user experience, and then started deploying servers all over the world, making it seem like they were going to have a full-scale war with Google.

Bahrain is delighted; what was initially intended as a publicity stunt for its data center project has quickly attracted companies to move in. Although they provided $15 million in subsidies to DuckDuckGo for its onboarding, the impact has been positive.

Despite repeated setbacks, Google continues to promote its sharing culture in various forums, choosing to ignore its past controversies.

The two sides continued to hurl insults at each other until October, when Jasmine told Chen Yiran something important.

【<( ̄ˇ ̄)/ Today is an important day, let's test your thinking.】

Chen Yiran glanced at her phone; it was October 5th.

"Um, the fifth day of the seven-day National Day holiday?"

[(^-^)V Guess again, guess again, it's related to an important person.]

Is this the birthday of Gao Yuanyuan, the goddess of Hupu (a popular Chinese sports forum)?

Why did you remember this? ( ̄△ ̄;)

"On Hupu, you can easily remember something just by browsing. Isn't it this one? Isn't it related to an important person?"

【╮(╯▽╰)╭, to be frank, today is the anniversary of Steve Jobs' death.】

"Ah, I remember it was in the afternoon, right? It was released on the official website."

Yes, around 4 PM, you heard the commotion outside your dorm and found out about it.

"Sigh, I don't necessarily think Steve Jobs was a great person, but compared to him, he was the one who was going to give me 30 billion. Google is just too despicable. I want to carry on Jobs's will and take Google down!"

During dinner, Olsen noticed Chen Yiran constantly scrolling through her phone and asked curiously, "What's wrong with you? You've been scrolling through the news. Is something big happening today?"

"No, isn't this a battle with Google? Look at their news."

After dinner, Chen Yiran continued working in the study while discussing things with Jasmine.

"What's going on? Do I, as a reborn person, have such great luck? Jobs met me once, and everything was fine?"

Pancreatic cancer! Even a dragon among men, blessed with imperial destiny, is destined to die.

"You've got the date wrong?"

"Uh, that's impossible, it shouldn't be. This is the butterfly effect, right? Maybe you went to dinner that day and rejected him, and Steve Jobs, who has masochistic tendencies, felt better and didn't die this year."

Chen Yiran couldn't figure it out, but he didn't pay much attention and continued to work on opposing Google.

Two days later, on the afternoon of October 7, 2011, Olson came running to the study excitedly: "Steve Jobs is dead!"

Chen Yiran quickly opened the Apple website, which now featured a black and white photo of Steve Jobs with the caption "Steve Jobs 1955-2011".

[We're two days late. Our influence isn't enough. Isn't it true that a single butterfly can create a tornado?]

Steve Jobs' death was treated with the utmost respect, with former friends and enemies alike showing him the utmost courtesy.

Apple's global store screens have all been switched to the same black-and-white photo, and some people have begun to place flowers and candles at the entrance to mourn. Many Apple employees couldn't help but cry. Samsung's strong rise with its new chips and Beans has left Apple employees feeling lost, and now Steve Jobs' death has completely shattered the company's morale.

A giant black and white banner was hung at Disney headquarters, and Bob Eagle issued a handwritten eulogy that evening.

Microsoft headquarters in Redmond flew its flag at half-staff, and Bill Gates released an open letter: "I am deeply saddened to learn of Steve Jobs' passing. My wife Melinda and I extend our deepest condolences to Jobs' family, friends, and anyone who was touched by him."

My first meeting with Steve Jobs was about 30 years ago. For the rest of our lives since then, we have been colleagues, rivals, and friends.

Steve Jobs had a profound impact on the world we live in, and that impact will be felt in generations to come. It was an honor for us to work with him. I will always cherish his memory.

Intel's Paul Otellini sent an email to all employees recounting Steve Jobs's refusal to sell the company during difficult times.

Zuckerberg wrote on Facebook: "Steve, thank you for being a mentor and friend. Thank you for showing us that what you built can change the world. We will miss you."

Samsung also expressed its condolences for Steve Jobs on Twitter and its official website, and announced that it would cancel the launch event for the Doubao app originally scheduled for October 11.

Shantanu Narayen, the CEO of Adobe who spent his life battling Apple over Flash, also issued an open letter: "Steve changed the world; his influence surpasses that of any politician or inventor."

Even Google had to make a statement, adding a small line of text below the search bar: Steve Jobs 1955-2011, which also links to Apple's official website. This is the only time Google has ever placed a competitor's link on its own homepage.

Among the many Silicon Valley bigwigs, only Ellison has not made any public statements.

Because he was a true friend of Steve Jobs, he was preparing a eulogy.

Chen Yiran had a strange feeling that he would be called to a funeral. He didn't know why, but he felt that Ellison would definitely call him.

And indeed, at 7 p.m., Ellison called him: "Steve's funeral is the day after tomorrow morning at Altameza Memorial Park. Come too."

Chen Yiran didn't really want to go, but it was hard to refuse, so she agreed: "Okay, my condolences. I'll be there on time the day after tomorrow."

"It's alright, we were actually prepared. His body reached its limit last month. I have some things to take care of, let's talk about them when we meet the day after tomorrow."

"OK."
