The Butcher of Hogsmeade

Chapter 43, Are the Witcher's experiences useful?

If Shen Hou truly lived up to his name and was shameless enough, he could have easily claimed to have defeated werewolves, and more than one, after the "Werewolf Night" at Hogsmeade. However, reason told him to stay calm, making him realize that he had only benefited from a sneak attack; at that time, the ones facing the werewolf pressure directly were the veteran Aurors Alastor and the Prewitt brothers, along with the well-coordinated James and Sirius.

I was just a support player, and I didn't cause much real damage to the werewolf.

Now, Shen Hou is the one on the front line, and there's no one around to support him.

The emergency room door opened a crack, and a female medical worker poked her head out, her face full of innocent dissatisfaction: "What's all the noise outside?" Then she met the werewolf's gaze.

"Go back, barricade the door, and get your jobs done." Before the female medical staff could scream, Shen Hou shoved her back.

A belated scream came from inside the door, and then other medical staff, defiant of the uncanny, perfectly demonstrated the worst aspects of human nature by insisting on pushing the door open again to confirm; although they eventually closed the door quickly, they clearly wasted a lot of time that could have been used to reinforce the door.

However, Shen Hou couldn't care less about them anymore. From the moment the first werewolf jumped into the fourth-floor corridor, he frantically racked his brains, desperately trying to find any information that could help him block or defeat the werewolves in the current situation.

For someone who was a Muggle a month ago, trying to do this would be a joke, but Shen Hou still has a "memory" in his mind that doesn't belong to a Muggle.

The authenticity of that memory from the "Middle Ages" may be questionable, the relevant knowledge in that memory may not be applicable to the magical world at all, and the werewolves in the two worlds may be two completely different species, but Shen Hou had no other choice.

Whether it's desperate measures or a last-ditch effort, at least there should be a medical plan, right?

In the illusion of memory, an old man with a red nose is giving an explanation while holding a huge parchment book. Shen Hou is in the perspective of a student listening to the lecture, and he can almost feel a little bit of impatience, as if he is empathizing with the "student" in the illusion.

"A shirt made of five parsley leaves, which a wolf-like person can wear and comfortably get through the night... Get lost, what's the difference between that and a mouse putting a bell on a cat?"

The memory screen slides backward rapidly.

"Have the wolf-monster patient take a potion containing virgin tears and endure it for one night... Although this is a hospital, I doubt they have virgin tears on hand. Change it again!"

"Expressing pure and unconditional love to a werewolf through their lover... What nonsense! I need combat experience, not treatment plans!"

The illusionary scenes shifted much faster than real time; in a single thought, the combat experience Shen Hou desired appeared before his eyes.

"Steel weapons are ineffective against werewolves; silver swords are necessary because werewolves' skin is extremely sensitive to silver... But even that won't work... Applying cursed creature sword oil to the weapon... Where am I supposed to find that? Even if I had the recipe, there wouldn't be enough time!"

"The effect of the hand seals..."

Shen Hou's spirits lifted; this was the first time he had seen the attack methods he possessed.

"When a werewolf transforms on the night of a full moon, its mind becomes manic and bloodthirsty, losing most of its self-control and rationality. The Axii sign can effectively confuse its actions, but the duration is limited, and the effect gradually weakens with each use..."

"The Aard sign can protect witchers and werewolves by maintaining a safe distance, but it cannot cause any real damage..."

"The flames of the Igni sign are the only sign effect that can cause substantial damage to a werewolf's body, but the burning duration is insufficient to be fatal..."

And then, that's it?!

Shen Hou almost cursed in real life.

Such a large book, yet the record of werewolves is only less than two pages long? And a third of it is an illustration of the werewolf's transformed appearance.

But as soon as the thought crossed his mind, the old man in the illusion reappeared before his eyes. However, this time he was not carrying a large book, but was fully armed, wearing soft armor, holding a silver sword, and standing in front of "Shen Hou" with his back to him; in front of the two of them was a group of bald monsters with sharp teeth and claws.

The old man's voice was clear, each word reaching Shen Hou's ears: "The most important quality for a Witcher is not courage, but meticulousness; secondly, calmness; and thirdly, patience..."

"Use careful observation to find the enemy's weaknesses."

"Use calm thinking to develop tactics against the enemy."

"Then patiently wait for the most suitable opportunity to make a move."

"Courage is not unimportant; it is the foundation of everything, but it cannot be considered everything."

The old man's voice was calm and firm, each word seemingly imprinted in Shen Hou's heart, like a master craftsman passing on his life's accumulated experience to his apprentice.

Shen Hou had a strange feeling. A sense of trust and dependence on the old man welled up in his heart, as if he had really been raised by the old man and regarded him as a trustworthy teacher.

Before he could fully experience the state of mind in the illusion, the werewolf opposite him didn't give Shen Hou any more time. No matter how slow the flow of time in the realm of memory and thought is, it is not completely still. In the real world, less than ten seconds had passed during Shen Hou's "data review" process, which was exactly the process by which the werewolf broke through the medical staff's defenses.

The werewolf's claws were already at his feet.

Without time to think, Shen Hou raised his hand and struck: "Ald!"

The effect of the seal was stronger than expected. The air wave was compressed by the corridor space and could not spread. After hitting the wall, it was pushed back layer by layer like sound waves, thickening and increasing the intensity of the air wave at its center. Wherever the air wave passed, the green plants and benches on both sides of the corridor were overturned. Even the portraits and landscape paintings hanging on the walls were not spared. Except for a few that had been permanently pasted, most of the frames flew away with the air wave.

The charging werewolf crashed headfirst into us, almost as if it had hit a solid brick wall.

Shen Hou was overjoyed. He changed his hand gesture, and raging flames erupted from his palm. The transformed werewolves were like a pack of hairy beasts; how could they not be afraid of fire? Their stiff, long fur burned much faster than human clothes, and the flames were far more spectacular.

The wolf howl instantly turned into a wail, and the three-headed werewolf tumbled and crawled backward, rolling all the way as he tried to extinguish the flames on his body.

Unfortunately, before Shen Houduo could be happy for even a few seconds, a magic wand emerged from the elevator door; "Clear water like a spring!" A woman's voice came from the elevator before the figure appeared, as if someone in the corridor had turned a fire hydrant to its maximum, and a torrent of water gushed out and poured down towards the flames.

In an instant, the fire died down and smoke rose, thick smoke mixed with water vapor, trapped in the narrow space of the corridor and unable to rise, blurring everyone's vision.

The most effective attack method was countered, and the werewolf that had been rolling on the ground got up, while Shen Hou's heart sank.
