Mystery: Death Singer
Chapter 20 Ambush
Late at night, Edric followed Jerry out of the apartment building, heading towards Jerry's current residence, which was also where the book containing a large amount of occult knowledge was kept.
During the time it took for night to fall, Edric observed Jerry more than once with his spiritual vision or the Eye of Death, and was 100% certain that he was just an ordinary person.
This made Edric even more certain that Jerry's "adventures" were not pure, and that there must be a truly extraordinary person hiding behind him. The spiritual warnings he inexplicably received in the rented room were the best proof of this.
Jerry may know of this person's existence, or he may know nothing about him and be nothing more than a pawn being manipulated by him.
Edric thought the latter was most likely, because he discovered that Jerry was completely unaware of the high cost of extraordinary materials and naively believed that he could master extraordinary powers and become a superior person for just a few dozen pounds.
This is also why Jerry dared to attack Edric and try to swindle his savings from Alvin.
If he had known that his father's meager savings couldn't even buy a scrap of material, he probably wouldn't have been so foolish as to walk right into Edric's clutches tonight.
Before long, Jerry led Edric into the real Lower Street, where the environment could only be described as terrible. There was an indescribable stench everywhere, and garbage and stains were everywhere. It was in a completely different league compared to the university district across the Hoy River.
In a corner, Jerry finally stopped, pointed to a tent not far from them, and whispered:
"This is it, I live here now."
Edric glanced at the tent, which was practically submerged in garbage, and the large amount of excrement around it, and ultimately gave up the idea of going in himself.
"Go, retrieve that book and hand it to me." Edric gestured with his chin toward Jerry. "Don't even think about escaping. Trust me, in the darkness, I'm far stronger than you imagine."
Jerry shuddered upon hearing this, recalling the bloody battle that afternoon, and nodded repeatedly:
"I know, I know, I'll go get the book right away."
Before the words had even finished, Jerry had already run quickly toward the tent, completely disregarding the dirty and smelly environment around him. He soon emerged from the tent with an ancient book that was as thick as a fist.
"It's this book..."
Seeing Jerry running towards him, Edric felt a sudden "boom" in his mind, and his unease reached its peak at that moment. Without any hesitation, he withdrew and instantly created a considerable distance between himself and Jerry.
Jerry stopped in his tracks, looking at Edric with a startled expression. He opened his mouth as if to say something, staring at Edric who looked wary.
But at that moment, a burst of intense fire suddenly flashed from the ancient book in his hand.
boom!!!
The next moment, the ancient book in Jerry's hand suddenly exploded, and the hand holding the book was instantly shattered. The shockwave sent the unsuspecting Jerry flying, and he finally crashed heavily onto the filthy and foul-smelling tent.
Edric ignored Jerry and the tent, who were already hopeless. He immediately activated his Dead Eye to scan the surroundings but found nothing unusual.
This means that the bomb in Jerry's hand was a trap that had been prepared in advance, but because Edric's intuition was too strong, he dodged it much earlier, which prevented it from playing its due role.
A cold glint flashed in Edric's eyes. Frost Spirit silently emerged from his pocket, and the little beetle also flew in mid-air, trying its best to communicate with all the spirits around it, hoping to help him find some clues.
Finally, perseverance paid off. The little beetle found the answer in a lingering, resentful reply: just five minutes before Edric arrived, a man of medium build had briefly entered the tent.
Five minutes should be enough time... Edric quickly started running, traversing the darkness following the direction indicated by the lingering resentment.
An extraordinary individual lurking in the shadows, who may know your true address and identity, and who can use lethal weapons like bombs, is far too dangerous.
Even though Stone Spirit is too exhausted to fight, and besides physical strength, only Frost Spirit can provide combat power, Edric is determined to find and kill that rat tonight.
…………
In the pitch-black path where even the moonlight couldn't reach, Iverson ran quickly with a cold expression. He didn't know why Jerry had suddenly betrayed him, but thankfully he managed to make amends in time.
He decided to move from Tingen tonight to the more chaotic but safer port of Enmat, where he could better utilize his abilities and satisfy his increasingly uncontrollable desires.
Iverson Peize, a wild extraordinary individual, embarked on this dangerous yet wonderful path more than a decade ago because of an ancient book he stumbled upon.
Just then, Iverson suddenly stopped and pricked up his ears as if listening to something. His body, which had been modified by the potion, was quite powerful, and he easily heard footsteps approaching him rapidly from about a hundred meters away.
A cold glint flashed in Iverson's eyes. He hadn't expected that the other party would completely ignore his warning and recklessly chase after him. He immediately slipped into the darkness, and even his heartbeat slowed down under his own control.
He wanted to end his life in Tingen with a perfect ambush, as the best reward for more than a decade of hard work and patience!
Seventy meters, fifty meters, thirty meters, fifteen meters, ten meters...
The footsteps were getting closer and closer to Iverson, and it looked like Edric was about to walk past him without warning.
boom!!!
A pale arm covered in ice crystals suddenly shot out from behind Iverson. Although it didn't cause much damage, it still knocked the confident hunter out of his hiding place!
Most fatally, a revolver flew out of Iverson's arms and, by sheer coincidence, landed in the sewer.
That wasn't all. A large amount of low-temperature mist spread out from Frost Spirit's center, instantly enveloping Iverson and Edric.
Controlling spirits? What extraordinary method is this... Seeing Edric's fist so close, Iverson completely ignored the strange spirit behind him and hurriedly raised his fist to defend.
bang~
The dull thud was gone in a flash, and Edric took several steps back in astonishment. He was completely outmatched by the middle-aged man in front of him in terms of physical ability!
Conversely, Iverson's eyes flickered slightly, and he suddenly felt much more relaxed.
He was initially worried about the consequences of the ambush being exposed and was considering how to escape quickly, but now it seems that the situation isn't so bad!
