Mystery: Death Singer

Chapter 8 The Gravedigger

The night before the Moretti family was to move out, Benson, holding a small glass bottle, knocked on Edric's door.

As he handed the glass bottle to the delighted Edric, he said with a smile:

"You're in luck, Edric. Klein said this bottle of pure alcohol is the last one the alcohol lab can sell. If it had been a few hours later, you would have had to wait about a week longer."

Edric gripped the small bottle tightly and nodded repeatedly, saying, "I want to express my gratitude to you all again, Benson, and Klein and Melissa. It really means a lot to me."

During the ensuing casual conversation, Edric learned that the Moretti family would be moving out of the apartment building the next day to a more expensive townhouse in a better location.

After seeing Benson off, Edric couldn't wait to close the door and quickly went to his only table with the bottle of pure alcohol.

After sealing the entire room with his spiritual power, Edric took out his carefully preserved materials one by one. Knowing the existence of the "Law of the Immortality of Extraordinary Characteristics," he did not choose to use the ready-made "Gravedigger" characteristic to advance, but instead decided to concoct a brand new potion himself.

The eyeballs of a dead raven, blood roses from the cemetery, corpse perfume oil, pure alcohol... As Edric threw each ingredient into the pot, they began to influence and coalesce, eventually merging into a single whole.

It was a pool of dark green liquid that looked rather disgusting, flowing with traces of blood, and even constantly emitting the stench of a corpse.

Edric immediately held his breath, his face contorted with grief and indignation.

If he could, he really didn't want to drink this liquid that exuded an aura of "death," but in order to advance further on the extraordinary path and to achieve even greater extraordinary abilities, he had no choice but to close his eyes, pick up the pot of potion, and, with a do-or-die attitude, gulp it down in one go.

In the final moments before his spirituality began to erupt, Edric murmured hypnotically, "This is... a necessary sacrifice."

As the "Gravedigger" potion slid smoothly down his esophagus and into his stomach, Edric felt a "boom" and everything around him instantly became incredibly intense in color.

Black, yellow, red... a riot of colors filled his field of vision, as if reality was no longer reality, but had become an oil painting in the making.

The tearing pain spread from the depths of his soul, but it had no effect on Edric, who was a veteran of many battles. His will had been tempered to be far beyond that of ordinary people during the three years of torment!

However, believing that there was no need to force himself to suffer, Edric immediately began meditating to quickly adjust his state and ensure a smooth promotion.

Five minutes, ten minutes... Time passed second by second. Edric, who was sitting cross-legged on the bed, suddenly twitched. Then, his lifeless eyes once again burst forth with a light full of joy.

"Finally, we succeeded!"

Edric jumped to his feet and carefully considered everything that this promotion brought him.

"His physique is stronger, his spiritual vision is more powerful, his movements are more agile, and..." He turned to look at a small alley outside the window, vaguely sensing a newly born, extremely fragile spirit inside, "as well as the spirits that can sense and communicate with those nearby."

Edric withdrew his gaze, a flash of gray-white light suddenly appearing in his eyes. His perspective began to rise, as if entering a spiritual world and the realm of the dead, allowing him to look down on the enemy from a higher level and search for some very important clues.

In this state, even when encountering undead and spirit creatures that are not or rarely mentioned in the "Corpse Collector" and "Grave Digger" potions, he can quickly find their weaknesses through observation.

This unique vision is the only active extraordinary ability "Death Eye" that Edric gained in this promotion—and it is also the only one he currently possesses.

There's no way around it; that's just how potions work for the "Corpse Collector" pathway. In the first three sequences, every Corpse Collector is extremely lacking in extraordinary abilities that can be used for direct combat, and Edric is no exception.

In addition, there are some physical characteristics that have been created under the influence of the potion. For example, Edric's blood flow has become extremely slow, which means that his arteries are no longer his vital organs. Even if someone were to accidentally puncture them, it would only be a minor injury to him.

Edric took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, then began to suppress his spirituality, and the grayness in his eyes faded away.

He was quite satisfied with this promotion. Even putting aside the "Eye of Death," the "Gravedigger" potion's enhancement to the body was considerable.

Judging solely from the aspect of sparring, Edric was confident that he could defeat three or four of his previous selves. If the opponent were an ordinary person, he would dare to say that he was invincible in Tingen.

Lack of technique and understanding of tactics? These problems are all insignificant to Edric, whose superhuman physical abilities make him a force to be reckoned with. The numbers are the very reason for his victory!

After breaking free of the spiritual barrier, Edric quickly returned to his identity as an ordinary cemetery worker. He glanced at the pot he had previously used to brew potions, which seemed to be working perfectly, and secretly decided to buy a new one the next day.

Although it looked the same as before, the stench still lingered in Edric's nostrils; the pot was no longer clean...

After tidying up the table, Edric took out the parchment he had obtained from the nameless cemetery and reviewed again the potion recipes for Sequence Seven "Spirit Shamans" that he needed to collect next:

Sequence Seven: The Psychic

[Main materials for the psychic: the forepaw of a ghostly cat, a piece of spirit crystal]

[Supporting Materials: 80 ml of ghost cat's blood, 10 g of soil contaminated by spirit crystals, 5 ml of brain matter from a person possessed by an evil spirit, and one leaf blessed by a nature spirit]

Although the memories of the potion inheritance mention "ghost cat" and "spirit crystal", it is only a general introduction.

For example, the "Ghost Cat" likes to haunt the deathly lands filled with deathly aura, while the "Spirit Crystal," despite its name, is actually a crystal-like skeleton tainted with the aura of the underworld.

These two potion ingredients are not easy to obtain, and as for brains and leaves, they are not particularly precious.

With their extraordinary ability to communicate with spirits, finding a good-tempered nature spirit to help them is not difficult.

Similarly, with the "Death Eye," Edric can easily find the evil spirits and naturally collect the brains he needs immediately.
