Mystery: Death Singer
Chapter 96 The Evil God, Still Terrified
Edric raised an eyebrow in surprise, then readily admitted it:
"I just happened to have a secondary tarot deck at the time, so I just used it."
Sure enough, Death was also present at the time. Could it have been him who made the move...? Audrey, the "Justice," and Alger, the "Hanged Man," shared the same thoughts and questions.
Aside from "The Sun" Derrick, who doesn't care about these things, Klein really wanted to know what exactly happened on the day Zillingus died, since the newspapers wouldn't write such details.
What's with the tarot cards Miss Justice mentioned? And wasn't Mr. Azik the one who killed Zilingus? Why does it sound like Edric was there that day too?
Thinking of this, Klein suddenly calmed down. He remembered that Mr. Azik was very likely a descendant of the Grim Reaper, and it was perfectly normal for Edric, as a "corpse collector," to have dealings with this big shot.
At the same time, he realized where that ominous feeling just now came from—it was because he had almost exposed his identity!
It's important to know that at the Tarot meeting, Klein participated as the "Fool," while Mr. Azik, in his own interpretation, was a "Favored One."
In the real world, however, Klein appears as a "former student" without any disguise. He even writes letters to Mr. Azik in his normal handwriting.
If he were to be even slightly careless and arouse Edric's suspicion, he could probe Mr. Azik for information about "Klein Moretti," especially considering that he had just offered a bounty on the "Sect," and had even performed a "resurrection" in front of the other party...
Klein took a deep, silent breath, feeling a lingering fear in his heart. Although he could still use "Klein is that chosen one" as a final layer of disguise, it would still reveal a considerable amount of information.
If all of this really happens, I'm afraid I'll only be able to keep my identity as a transmigrator in the end... Klein glanced at Edric wearily, muttering to himself with a bittersweet smile.
Edric was completely oblivious to Mr. Fool's many inner monologues. After chatting with the others for a while, seeing that the party was gradually coming to an end, he looked at "The Sun" Derrick beside him and smiled:
"I suddenly remembered that I recently acquired a detailed guide to ritual magic in the 'Sun' realm. Mr. 'Sun,' I remember you are the 'Singer'?"
At first, "The Sun" Derrick's eyes were somewhat dazed, as if unsure whether "Death" was speaking to him, but his reaction speed was indeed very fast:
"Of course! Mr. 'Death,' what do you need? The 'Mind Reader' potion recipe?"
"No, no, no."
Edric quickly waved his hand. It was just an ancient book about mysticism. How could it possibly sell for three hundred pounds? If he really bought it, his reputation in the Tarot Club would be completely ruined. He couldn't fool a fool like that!
"It's just a very ordinary book of mysticism, Mr. 'Sun.' I remember you once mentioned that there are many monsters in the darkness around Silver City."
"Then, could I exchange this book, 'The Realm of the Sun - Ritual Magic Explained,' from the Soren family, for a detailed list of these monsters?"
As he spoke, Edric, with Klein's help, materialized the appearance of the ancient book.
"After all, there are many kinds of extraordinary creatures, and I really can't be sure what I need."
"No problem! After the gathering, I'll look up the records of which monsters are near Silver City, and we can exchange them at the next gathering."
"The Sun" Derrick was very excited. In his mind, the list of monsters was useless. Mr. "Death" had practically given the book away for free. What a kind person.
Alger the Hanged Man and Audrey the Justice were equally intrigued. They were also curious about the mysterious Silver City that the Sun had mentioned, wondering what extraordinary creatures lived around it and whether it contained anything they needed.
However, the two were unprepared and could not produce anything that matched the value of "The Realm of the Sun - Ritual Magic Explained" in a short time. It would be inappropriate to offer anything that was either more or less valuable than the book, so they could only choose to stand by and watch.
Only "The Fool" Klein remained unmoved, because knowledge, if it were to circulate in the Tarot Club, would absolutely require his share, and he would even get it for free.
Seeing that the conversation between "Death" and "Sun" had come to a temporary end, Audrey looked curiously at Edric and asked:
"Mr. 'Death,' you just mentioned that this book is related to the 'Sauron' family. Is it the 'Sauron' I know, the former royal of Intis?"
Well done! That's exactly what I was thinking. Miss "Justice"... Klein mentally gave Audrey a big thumbs up.
"Yes, this book was a gift from a good friend," Edric said frankly.
This question is not difficult to answer. His book has a clean origin and is even endorsed by Solana herself, so there is ample guarantee in terms of after-sales service.
"Mr. Death" is really amazing. He even knows members of the "Sauron" family. He must be a big shot in the mysterious world... Audrey raised her eyebrows and felt more and more that her Tarot Club was fundamentally different from other gatherings of extraordinary people.
Upon hearing this answer, Alger the Hanged Man subtly raised the level of Edric's threat even higher. Unlike "Justice" and "The Sun," who were like innocent little rabbits, he believed that "Death" was the kind of person he needed to be highly wary of.
To paraphrase Emperor Roselle, one careless move could turn into "those who recklessly tamper with the fire will surely perish in its flames."
After a while, Klein tapped the bronze table with his index finger, signaling the end of the gathering. The group rose in unison to bow, then dissipated into a deep red light.
…………
In the real world, Edric opened his eyes, got up from the recliner, and stretched comfortably in the warm sunlight.
Even in Backlund, around 3 p.m., if the fog isn't too thick, you can still enjoy the sunshine.
Edric went to the desk and took out the metal cigarette case containing the umbilical cord.
Through previous experiments, he determined that this substance had a strong attraction to spirit beings that possessed elements such as "corruption," "blasphemy," and "evil."
But that's precisely where the problem lies. While Edric does possess a terrifying, superhuman ability to suppress "undead" beings, he is not the "ruler of the spirit world." The creatures that dwell in the spirit world are diverse, and not all of them are related to the "corpse collector" pathway.
