Feng Wu sat in the bulletproof military vehicle, turned his head to look at the scenery outside the window, and saw only barren land as far as the eye could see, with only a few patches of green occasionally.

Since the Great Cataclysm, the world has undergone drastic changes. The land has been torn apart, ravaged by wild beasts, food is scarce, civilization has regressed, and technology has fallen behind, plunging the entire world into unprecedented chaos.

After 100 years of settling, this land has slowly regained some vitality. Some places have even returned to their state before the beginning of the century.

A new order gradually emerged over this century. The Chinese were the most populous race before the Common Era, and naturally, more of them survived.

The entire Chinese race was divided into four federations, one each in the east, west, south, and north. Feng Wu is currently serving in the army of the southern federation.

"What? Are you still angry with me for making such a cruel decision?"

A voice broke the silence inside the car. Feng Wu turned to look at the man with thick eyebrows and large eyes opposite him, gently shook his head, and said solemnly:

"I'm not angry, I just don't understand. Of course, I don't need to understand. A soldier's duty is to obey orders."

Commander Ou chuckled and extended his hand: "Whether you're angry or not, I really should thank you for this. Let me formally introduce myself; my name is Ou Jing."

You were right about something you just said: you don't need to understand. But if you ever come to understand, I believe you'll understand my understanding.

Feng Wu shook hands with the man opposite him, inwardly cursing as he listened to the tongue-twisting words. These people just loved to spout nonsense that no one could understand.

Feng Wu is still completely bewildered by this sudden incident. The military region issued a combat mission in the middle of the night, and it was a top-secret order.

They mobilized a large force to the battlefield, using a regiment to encircle and annihilate a gang of only a few hundred robbers, but in the end, all they had to do was recover a lost camera.

It was just bad luck for these robbers; their ancestral graves were emitting black smoke, which caused a major incident, and they kicked a hornet's nest.

What's inside this camera?

Feng Wu's mind started racing. He looked at the man opposite him and asked, "Which Federation does Commander Ou serve in?"

The man sitting opposite me is a senior colonel, a division-level officer, which is the highest rank in the military, because the next level is having a star on your shoulder.

Feng Wu had served in the Southern Federation army for seven years. Although the army was large, he had never heard of any high-ranking officers with the surname Ou.

The man opposite him was at most seven or eight years older than him. Without an extraordinary background, an ordinary person at that age would never be at this level.

"Hehe, what? Are you asking about my background?" Ou Jing crossed his arms and looked at Feng Wu with a smile.

Seeing that his purpose had been seen through, Feng Wu was not embarrassed. He smiled at Ou Jing, leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and pretended to rest.

He thought to himself: If I can't afford to mess with you, I'll just avoid you. The mission is over now. Even if you're a higher-ranking official than me, we're not in the same system. I can ignore you, and that's not illegal.

Ou Jing saw that the impatient-looking kid opposite him was ignoring him, not saying a word, and simply closed his eyes and left him hanging.

This kid has quite a temper!

"hehe."

Ou Jing chuckled twice in exasperation, then slowly uttered a shocking statement:

"I don't belong to any federation!"

Upon hearing this, Feng Wu's eyes snapped open, filled with shock as he stared intently at the man in front of him, only to discover that the man had actually leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes beforehand.

Feng Wu stared intently at Ou Jing, his eyes sharp, as if trying to see right through him. How dare a soldier say such things within the Federation?

Who doesn't know that all military personnel within federal jurisdiction must be federal subjects? Who would dare to say to outsiders that they don't belong to the Federation while wearing a military uniform?

Yet his tone was so calm and confident.

It seems like they're talking about something very ordinary.

Feng Wu wanted to ask for clarification, but Ou Jing had already closed his eyes and started snoring, clearly not wanting to get rid of him.

Holy crap, is this some kind of revenge for ignoring him earlier? Is he that arrogant? Dude!

That sentence has left him itching to speak, wanting to say something but too embarrassed to, knowing that if he does, his confidence will wane.

This is really weird. I'll just ignore you then. I've been running around for a day and a night, I should rest first.

Feng Wu finally fell asleep an hour later...

Southern Federation!

Third Army Group Division Headquarters

The lounge is spacious and simple, with only a bed, a large iron cabinet against the wall, a tea table supported by iron bars in the middle, and a few chairs.

At the tea table in the middle, a young couple sat facing each other and were talking. The man was wearing a light yellow military uniform, was tall, had fairly regular features, a buzz cut, and a simple and honest look when he smiled.

The woman was tall with an oval face, crescent-shaped eyebrows, and long, black hair that was all combed back and tied into a bun that reached down to her waist.

She wore a turtleneck sweater with an exaggerated chest shape, and a pair of the most popular jeans in the Federation.

Her looks aren't the kind that are stunning at first glance, but the more you look at her, the more beautiful she becomes. The woman has a cool, aloof aura, which, combined with her figure, creates a powerful and captivating presence.

The man's tea-making skills were clearly "skilled," and his movements were in line with the style of a soldier. He finished a pot of tea in less than a minute, poured a cup of tea, and placed it in front of the woman sitting in the main seat.

"Nantian, you really know how to brew tea! Has the flavor fully developed?"

The woman sitting in the main seat looked at the teacup in front of her, which seemed to contain only plain water. She raised her eyebrows and couldn't help but speak up.

"Haha, Sister Bing, you don't understand. If the tea is over-infused, it will taste bitter. It's not as pleasant as my method of brewing, where not a single leaf sticks to your skin."

The man named Nantian laughed and ignored the woman's sarcasm, then proceeded to spout some philosophical thoughts, which showed that they were quite familiar with each other.

Although Sister Bing's words were sarcastic, her actions didn't seem to mind. She picked up her teacup, took a sip, and said with a self-deprecating tone:

"Thank you this time. I never expected to be caught in a bandit's den. If word gets out, people will laugh their heads off."

Find me a few people familiar with the area around the Nanling Mountains and have them make me a map so I don't stumble into bandit territory again.

If we were to stumble into a bandit's den, we'd really become a laughingstock.

Nan Tian watched as the woman in front of him began to swear, and he secretly chuckled to himself. It seemed this was quite a blow to her.

He rubbed his buzz cut and said casually, "These are all minor matters, Sister Bing, I'll arrange them, so don't be upset."

The item has been recovered, and this matter will not affect you in any way. You can continue with this mission.

Nantian paused for a moment and then advised, "Sister Bing, the Nanling Mountains are not like the Federation. The refugees here are ruthless, and bandits run rampant. Our army is sometimes robbed."

Nantian almost said you were lucky to have encountered a small gang of robbers. If you had encountered a large gang, you and your few companions would have been wiped out long ago.

"The Federation issued an order thirty years ago that it must not discriminate against migrants from outside the Federation and must accept them. Why are there still so many migrants outside your Southern Federation?" Sister Bing said angrily.

Nan Tian shook his head bitterly and said, "Sister Bing, the area outside the Federation is a region without civilization and law. How can people who are used to living outside possibly endure the restrictive life inside the Federation?"

Furthermore, those who commit crimes within the Federation, especially those with connections and resources, often hide in the planned development zones. The Federation simply doesn't have the capacity to address these issues.

In addition, the incident forty years ago set back the federal economy by twenty years, which made the federal leadership very resistant to matters outside the federal government.

These people are all busy grabbing things for themselves, they don't have time to care about these trivial matters..."

"Southern Heaven, be careful what you say."

Before Nan Tian could finish speaking, Sister Bing interrupted him and continued, "You've reached a crucial step. Anyone can talk about the Federation's higher-ups, but you can't. These words will become obstacles for you."

"jingle."

Just as Nantian was about to reply, the phone on the table rang.
