Game of Thrones: Dance of the Dragons
Chapter 61 Brother, praise me!
Beller didn't care how brilliant the debate between Mond and the Archbishop might be.
His purpose in coming here, besides the most basic need to borrow money and food, was to take the opportunity to elevate himself by leveraging the power of the Seven Gods.
Beller rode his dragon back to the victory banquet and told Renilla what had happened.
"How dare they?"
"This is the old town, the birthplace of the Seven Gods faith. How many people are watching them!"
"Aren't they afraid of being punished for blatantly disobeying the Seven Gods?!"
Baylor sighed softly.
Rhaenyra had always lived a life of luxury in the royal family, and apart from listening to the opinions of the ministers at the Royal Council, she had never seen the true nature of the Seven Kingdoms.
What filthy thoughts do those dukes and lords, who covet royal power, harbor?
"Sister, faith and humanity are the things that cannot withstand the test of time."
"This world isn't a place where we can do whatever we want; it's a place where I have to do what I'm forced to do."
Renilla suddenly laughed, slapping Baylor on the forehead. "Fool, it's not 'I,' it's 'we.'"
"Don't forget, we share the same blood and fire; we will ultimately be together."
Faced with this sudden sweet talk, Belle was clearly at a loss and quickly changed the subject.
"The mission is complete, let's go back."
"I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving all my men under Helena's management alone; she's too young."
Renilla, however, spoke pointedly, "You mean it'll be okay when you grow up, right?"
"Of course, having a wonderful younger sister who is both academically and morally excellent can be a great help to both of us."
Baylor didn't learn much in the old town, but he honed his skills to the extreme in observing people's emotions.
"You've passed. Let's go."
Renilla nodded in satisfaction, turned around, mounted Syracuse, and took to the skies first.
Beller followed closely behind on his gluttonous mount.
The two left the old town amidst a warm farewell from the Hightower family.
……
The King's Landing, the Dragon's Lair.
As usual, Baylor let the gluttons go out to forage and fly on their own.
Renilla followed suit and chatted with Beller about dragons the whole way.
To her surprise, she discovered that her younger brother was quite knowledgeable about raising and taming dragons, and his mature manner of speaking made him seem like the patriarch of the ancient Valyrian dragon king family.
"My dear brother, where did you learn all this knowledge?"
"We have to thank our good uncle for this."
"I was able to learn this knowledge thanks to the ancient books he sent me, which contained a lot of information about the Dragon King family's taming techniques."
"Wouldn't it be a shame not to put it into practice?"
When Damon was mentioned, Baylor vaguely remembered that he hadn't seen him for almost seven days since the Battle of the Steps Islands.
Renilla said, "I remember Father talking about it at the Royal Council. Uncle Damon rode Corakshyu to the Valley to find his beloved wife."
"My dear wife?"
Even Baylor had heard Damon refer to Lady Rhea as a "bronze bitch who only knows how to hunt" in Old Town.
There are even rumors that when the two got married for the first time, Rhea saw Damon, who was completely drunk, and simply left him outside to be exposed to the wind all night.
Baylor teased, "Do you think our good uncle went to the valley himself because he wanted to consummate his marriage with his wife?"
Renilla admired her brother's humor. "You'd be better off praying he'd find a bastard child and steal the Vale's inheritance than praying he'd consummate his marriage with Lady Rhea."
Of course, given Damon's proud and arrogant nature, he would rather find a prostitute and have a child openly and honestly than do such a thing.
"The inheritance rights to the valley..."
As the saying goes, what is said without intention may be taken to heart by the listener.
Renilla's statement, though seemingly a joke, gave Beller a different perspective.
Perhaps, it's worth a try.
"elder brother!"
Under Longwei's protection, Helena threw herself into Baylor's arms.
"Helena, why aren't you studying Valyrian with Aegon at this time? Why are you suddenly running off to the dragon's lair?" Baylor's tone was tinged with reproach.
He believed that, as a member of House Targaryen, taming dragons and mastering the Valyrian language were essential life lessons.
Helena is intelligent and, although she sometimes talks nonsense, she is much better than her stupid brother Aegon in all aspects.
"Because I felt that seeing my brother was more important than learning Valyrian."
"Besides, if I don't know how, you can teach me!"
Helena is a clever girl.
She had heard with her own ears that the old scholars of the City of Learning had praised the Prince more than once.
If it weren't for the king's eldest son, Baelor would certainly have become the most outstanding scholar in the history of the City of Learning.
That old scholar was always strict, and the number of people he could personally praise could be counted on one hand.
"That's true, but that's no excuse for skipping class." Baylor accepted the compliment, but still hoped Helena wouldn't skip class.
More than anything else, Renilla wanted to know if there was magic in this girl's eyes, how she could always know immediately when Baylor returned?
Faced with Renilla's interrogative gaze, Helena calmly hugged Beller and gave him an extremely innocent and adorable look.
You can't exactly say she dreamt about it, can you?
Without much small talk, the three of them boarded the carriage and returned to the Red Castle.
Renilla was preparing to send Helena back to the academy to continue her studies, but the little girl was a bit stubborn and insisted on going to find her father with Baylor.
Left with no other option, the three of them went together to the council chamber to meet Viserys, who was handling state affairs.
Baylor gave a simplified account of how the old town agreed to donate all its grain.
"Father, apart from the food my men need for a year, I plan to use the remaining money to gather these people together and open a trading market using their ancestral skills to become self-sufficient."
Life in the old town taught Beller that only by becoming strong could he be unafraid of any enemy.
Viserys smiled and said, "My child, you are the prince of Dragonstone, the future king."
"Go ahead and do it. If you need help, come to your father anytime."
How could Viserys not understand the trickery involved?
However, since Baylor was unwilling to talk about it, he wouldn't press him for details.
"Thank you, Father." Baylor embraced Viserys gratefully.
Viserys patted Baylor on the shoulder. "You're welcome, my child."
"To be honest, you and your sister Helena are remarkably in agreement."
"She suggested this method to help you manage things as soon as you came back."
Beller became interested and turned to look at Helena, who was blinking.
It's as if it's saying: Aren't I amazing? Come and praise me!
However, what he was more curious about was how Helena, a three-year-old child, knew this method without having received any education.
Helena spoke slowly and deliberately, "Although I don't remember clearly, I saw it just like last time!"
"Seeing how my brother managed to manage the market using this method!"
