The two walked out of the police station and went their separate ways.

Jingzhou in August was still hot and humid, and many people came out for a walk at night.

Wen Li walked aimlessly down the street. Passing a convenience store, she went in and bought two bottles of Jiangxiaobai liquor.

After coming out, she found a secluded corner, sat down on the ground, and drank the fruit-flavored gummies that the shop assistant gave her, one sip after another.

The effects of alcohol brought forth overwhelming pain and tears.

Wen Li buried her head, crying in suppressed sobs, her thin shoulders trembling with each sob.

Passersby couldn't help but glance at them, and some older women and young women were a little worried and went up to ask if they needed help.

Wen Li shook her head and thanked him, then stood up, clutching the wine bottle, and walked towards her rented room.

Not far behind, a Rolls-Royce in obsidian black was driving slowly.

"Even you lied to me..." Wen Li murmured, then leaned against a sycamore tree beside the sidewalk and burst into tears.

Heaven knows how to create an atmosphere; within just a few minutes, a torrential downpour began.

Wen Li was drenched in the heavy rain and couldn't open her eyes, so she cried even harder.

Liang Chaoxu stopped the car, opened the door, popped out his umbrella, opened it, got out of the car, and walked briskly toward Wen Li.

"Wen Li, stop crying, come home with me."

Liang Chaoxu held the umbrella over Wen Li's head and subconsciously reached out to hold her hand, but realizing it was inappropriate, he immediately withdrew his hand.

"No need, I'm not the homeless person I used to be." Wen Li saw his face clearly through the car lights in the rain, turned around and left. "I have a home now, I'm going back to my own home."

Liang Chaoxu caught up in a few steps, the large black umbrella completely shielding Wen Li.

"Then I'll take you back to your own home."

Wen Li suddenly stopped and turned to look at him. As she moved, the ends of her hair, which were being tossed around, unexpectedly wrapped around Liang Chaoxu's fingers that were holding the umbrella. The soft, wet touch instantly spread from her fingertips.

"I don't need you to take me. Once I pay back the money you lent me, we don't need to have anything to do with each other anymore." The rain had cooled Wen Li down a bit, and she became more lucid, speaking clearly and earnestly.

After saying that, she turned around and continued walking forward.

Afraid of pulling her hair, Liang Chaoxu immediately followed, untangling the long hair that was wrapped around his fingers as he walked, not intending to answer what she had just said.

"Mr... Mr. Liang, please stop following me. Otherwise, I'll call the police and say you're stalking me." Wen Li's pace quickened.

"It can't be solved," Liang Chaoxu said calmly.

"What?" Wen Li stopped in her tracks.

"Your hair is tangled in my hand, I can't get it out." Liang Chaoxu held his hand out in front of her eyes.

Wen Li looked closely and saw that in the drizzling rain, strands of her hair were wrapped around his well-defined fingers, the stark black and white contrasting together in a strange and eerie way.

She raised her hand, grabbed the end of her hair, and pulled hard. Her scalp stung, but she managed to untangle it.

"Now that it's fixed, you can go."

"Here's the umbrella, I'll drive." Liang Chaoxu said, already handing the umbrella to Wen Li.

He turned and walked back to the car in the rain, his back straight.

Wen Li held up her umbrella, stared at his back for a few seconds, then turned and walked away cleanly and decisively.

It rained all night. The next morning, Wen Li was still asleep when she was woken up by a phone call from the police station.

"Ms. Wen, we need you to come over and sign a letter of understanding."

Confused, Wen Li took the subway to the police station. After exiting the subway, she waited on the side of the road to cross the street.

A black Hongqi car sped past, its wheels churning through puddles beside the road, splashing water everywhere. Her white trousers were instantly stained, clinging wetly to her legs.

By the time Wen Li realized what was happening, the Hongqi car was long gone.

She looked down at her tattered pants and muttered under her breath, "How rude!"

Upon arriving at the police station, Wen Li saw Han Mingzhu with her legs propped up on the police officer's desk as soon as she entered the office.

"Wen Li, I didn't realize that." Han Mingzhu slowly stood up, crossed her arms, and walked in front of her with a meaningful smile on her face.

"You appear so refined and noble on the surface, but I never imagined you'd be having an affair with Song Yu's uncle behind his back."

Wen Li frowned and slapped Han Mingzhu without hesitation: "You can't stand not getting hit every day, can you? You just spout rumors and slander without batting an eye."

Han Mingzhu tried to scratch Wen Li again, but was stopped by the police who arrived in time.

Enraged, she erupted in a tirade: "I'm spreading rumors and slander? If you didn't have that kind of relationship, why would Song Yu's uncle go to such lengths to deal with me?"

"All I did was scratch you, and he still wants me detained for over a month. He's been so blatant, and you still dare to turn around and accuse me of spreading rumors and slander."

Han Mingzhu pushed aside the policeman blocking her way and continued to shout, "I think you want to be a prostitute and also want to be a virtuous woman."

The police officer spoke up, "Ms. Han, please watch your words and actions."

"Pah!" Han Mingzhu spat at the police officer. "You think she's the only one with connections? Let me tell you, from today onwards, I rightfully belong to the Han family..."

"Han Mingzhu!" A slightly hoarse voice rang out behind them.

Wen Li and the police turned to look and saw a woman in her early fifties. She had a well-maintained face and figure, and her elegant and noble appearance was accentuated by a peony cheongsam made of Xiangyun yarn and a beautiful white jade pearl necklace.

"Mrs. Han...Mom, she just hit me." Han Mingzhu ran over and reached out to take Gao Lan's arm, but Gao Lan brushed her away.

Wen Li stared at the two of them in astonishment. She and Han Mingzhu were classmates in junior and senior high school. She had seen Han Mingzhu's mother twice before at the school gate, but this was not the person in front of her at all.

Gao Lan walked past Han Mingzhu and went straight to Wen Li, smiling as she extended her hand: "Miss Wen, right? I'm Han Mingzhu's parent. I'm here today to ask you for a small favor."

"I hope you can issue a letter of understanding for Han Mingzhu before the court hearing."

Wen Li did not reach out to shake hands in return, but instead turned her gaze to Han Mingzhu, who was standing behind her with a smug look on her face, and spoke calmly.

"I'm sorry, I refuse to help you with this. Han Mingzhu has repeatedly assaulted me, verbally abused me, and even spread rumors and slander against me. I have every right to pursue her criminal liability."

Gao Lan's smile froze for a moment, then quickly returned: "Ms. Wen, I just heard from Han Mingzhu that you and she have been friends for many years. I don't think you would be so heartless as to see a stain on your friend's file, would you?"

"Friends?" Wen Li scoffed.

"She's already slept in the same bed as my fiancé, and you expect me to still consider her a friend? You want me to forgive her? Should I write another article praising her legendary exploits?"

Upon hearing this, Gao Lan's expression changed instantly. She quickly turned to look at Han Mingzhu, her eyes filled with anger: "Is what she said true?"

Han Mingzhu immediately panicked and ran over.

"No, I didn't. You must believe me, madam."
