Mr. Liang, you mustn't covet other people's fiancées!

Chapter 39 A Twist of Fate: Meeting the Parents

On the day before the Lunar New Year, the weather was sunny and cold.

"He's my uncle, if he won't help me, will he help Wen Li instead?"

"Vice President Jiang, your family is powerful, and the Liang family is no less so. If you want to teach me a lesson, you'll have to ask my uncle's opinion first."

After finishing his sentence, Song Yu hung up the phone and said to the saleswoman, "I'm here to pick up the perfume I ordered."

"Mr. Song, please take care."

The saleswoman escorted him to the door and watched him leave before returning to continue serving Wen Li and Tian Miao in the semi-open cubicle.

Song Yu's words were still echoing in my ears, lingering for a long time.

Seeing Wen Li frozen in place with the fragrance sample card, Tian Miao quickly called out softly, "Youyou?"

Wen Li turned around and smiled, "It's nothing."

Tian Miao glanced past the screen at Song Yu, who had already walked away, and said with pursed lips, "We've bought almost all the gifts, let's go back first."

Wen Li nodded and followed Tian Miao down the other elevator, leaving the mall.

On her way home, Wen Li kept thinking about what Song Yu had said, but she couldn't figure it out.

As soon as I stepped inside the house, my phone vibrated in my pocket.

Wen Li took it out and saw that it was Jiang You.

"Hey, senior." She stood in the entryway changing her shoes, her phone tucked between her shoulder and ear.

"Are you free tonight?" Jiang You's voice came through the receiver, light and cheerful. "I'd like to invite you to dinner."

Wen Li bent down to put the shoes away, and paused when she straightened up, still thinking about what she had overheard in the mall.

I'll take this opportunity to ask.

She thought for a moment and said, "I'm free. What time?"

"I'll pick you up at 5:30?"

"it is good."

Jingchen Hall is hidden deep in the bustling city of Xicheng District, with its green tiles, red railings, plain walls, and carved windows, exuding a refined and elegant charm.

Led by a waiter, the two walked around the corridor toward their private room.

As they passed a crescent-shaped gate in a courtyard, a surprised "Second Young Master" called out to them, stopping them in their tracks.

Jiang You turned his head and saw that it was Aunt Yu, the nanny who was with his mother.

His heart skipped a beat, and he looked into the courtyard: "Is my mother having dinner here tonight?"

Aunt Yu nodded and replied, "Yes, Madam and the wives of Liang, He, and Zhou are both here."

After speaking, she glanced at Wen Li beside Jiang You without making a sound, her eyes full of scrutiny and inquiry.

Jiang You pondered for a moment, then turned to Wen Li beside him and said, "You go to the private room first, I'll go say hello to my mom and the others."

"Okay." Wen Li nodded and followed the waiter forward.

Jiang You slowly entered the courtyard and walked towards the tea room where his mother was.

Upon entering, one finds four people playing cards inside. Hearing the noise, they all turn to look at the doorway.

Madam Jiang, who was chatting with Qin Youya, saw him and asked in surprise, "Xiao You, what brings you here?"

Jiang You smiled gently and politely: "I came to have dinner with some friends. I heard from Aunt Yu that you and Aunt Qin were here, so I came over to say hello."

As he spoke, Jiang You greeted Qin Youya, who was in the main seat, and Madam He and Madam Zhou, who were sitting below him.

This was Madam Zhou's first time meeting Jiang You. She was both trying to please him and genuinely praising him: "Madam Jiang is so fortunate to have two sons who are both outstanding young talents."

Madam Jiang smiled, feeling quite pleased, but said modestly, "Madam Zhou, you flatter me. Your Tingqian is also a rare and handsome young man."

Just then, Zhou Tingqian and Han Mingzhu walked in from the door.

After another round of pleasantries, Jiang You was about to take his leave when Madam Jiang called out to him, "Xiao You, since everyone is here today, why don't you invite your friend over for dinner as well?"

Aunt Yu just sent her a message saying that there is a girl with the second young master.

Jiang You was injured in Hangzhou. Someone who knew the situation told her that she fell down the stairs while trying to save a little girl.

After she found out, she had someone investigate secretly, but there was no progress. Later, she thought about it and figured that Jiang You was probably deliberately obstructing and covering it up in order to protect the girl.

Now that she had the chance, she wanted to see what kind of person he was. How could he make Jiang You so stubbornly disobey his family's arrangements and shout that he wanted to pursue his own happiness?

"No need, Mom. My friend..." Jiang You was interrupted by Madam Jiang before he could finish speaking.

"Don't worry, your Aunt Qin and I won't eat you. Go on, bring your friend over and introduce him to everyone."

Everyone understood the implication in her words, but no one said anything more.

This is how it's always been in the homes of the powerful and wealthy. If it's a dinner party specially arranged by the family, they'll send out their visiting cards well in advance and prepare gifts before attending. Otherwise, it's a completely different story.

Jiang You pursed his lips, hesitated for a moment, and then said in a deep voice, "Okay."

Wen Li was sitting in the private room looking at the menu when she heard the door open. She turned to Jiang You and asked, "Senior, what would you like to eat?"

"Wen Li, let's eat somewhere else." Jiang You walked over and took the menu from her hand.

Wen Li looked puzzled, got up and followed him out of the private room to the courtyard.

She asked, puzzled, "Senior, is there something you need?"

Jiang You was worried, but a smile appeared on his face as he reassured her, "It's nothing, just eat normally in a bit. Don't be shy."

Wen Li nodded: "Okay."

The two walked side by side through the half-moon gate and all the way to the entrance of the tea room.

"Wen Li?" He Yanxi's voice came from behind.

Jiang You and Wen Li turned their heads at the same time.

He Yanxi was so surprised that she stopped in her tracks, thinking that Jiang You had brought Wen Li to meet his parents. She hadn't expected their relationship to develop so quickly.

"Sister Yanxi." Jiang You smiled and nodded.

"Go in." He Yanxi's heart was in turmoil, but her face showed a calm and gentle smile.

As soon as Wen Li entered, she spotted Han Mingzhu pouring tea for the four people at the mahjong table. Her brows furrowed slightly, showing both surprise and disgust.

When Han Mingzhu saw her, she was stunned for a few seconds before slowly curving her lips into a meaningful smile.

"Mom, this is my friend, Wen Li." Jiang You introduced Wen Li to the others in the room.

Upon hearing Wen Li's name, Qin Youya looked up at her, scrutinizing her with curiosity. She had heard of this girl's name several years ago, but she never expected to meet her in person today.

Madam Jiang made no attempt to conceal her scrutiny of Wen Li, her eyes sharp. Although her face was pretty enough, her overall demeanor lacked elegance and grace. Her clothes were all from unknown, off-brand brands, suggesting that her family was of modest means.

Wen Li politely greeted the ladies.

Qin Youya smiled and nodded; the little girl was quite clever.

Madam Jiang responded with an "Mmm".

Jiang You turned to Wen Li and said, "Sit down and have some pastries first. The meal will be ready soon."

"Okay." Wen Li and Jiang You walked to the chairs and sat down.

Madam Jiang glanced at the two of them and slowly said, "I'm a little tired. Which of you younger generation members knows how to play cards and can take my place?"

"Aunt Jiang, I can do it." Han Mingzhu volunteered and stepped forward.

Zhou Tingqian glanced at her but didn't say anything.

The two were already in the dating phase and never interfered with each other's behavior unless absolutely necessary.

Madam Jiang sat down opposite Jiang You and Wen Li, slowly sipped her tea, and asked in a calm tone, "Miss Wen, where are you from?"

He Yanxi ate pastries on the side, observed silently for a while, and then took out her phone to send a message to Liang Chaoxu.

Are you really not coming to Jingchen Hall tonight?

I'm not going.

Wen Li is here.
