Chaotic Times and Disasters: I Hunt Down Martial Arts Masters and Become a God
Chapter 4 Killing Two People at Night
Song Yawei was collecting the deerskins that had been drying all day in the yard when she heard the noise and turned around. Her eyes lit up when she saw the string of rabbits and pheasants around Fu Qing's waist.
"Another bumper harvest today."
She hurried over, took the prey from his hands, weighed it in her hand, and looked up at him. She felt that her husband had grown even stronger, standing in the yard like an iron tower.
Song Nini peeked out from the kitchen, saw the prey, and smiled, "Brother-in-law is amazing, we have meat to eat every day."
"It's nothing, just a small thing."
Fu Qing waved his hand, "Clean up a bit, pick out two fat ones to stew tonight, and marinate the rest."
The two sisters quickly got to work, boiling water to remove the hair and gutting the animals.
Fu Qing sat on the threshold, took out his wood-chopping knife and sharpened it again. The sound of the blade scraping against the whetstone echoed in the courtyard.
...
After dinner, Fu Qing sat on the edge of the bed in a daze for a while. Song Yawei finished cleaning up the dishes, blew out the lamp, and quietly lay down next to him, snuggling close to him. Fu Qing reached out and put his arm around her waist, then closed his eyes.
...
It was late at night when Fu Qing was awakened by a noise.
The sound was very soft, as if someone was deliberately slowing down their footsteps, but the snow was too thick to be concealed by the softest sound.
Fu Qing opened her eyes, silently turned over, and stepped barefoot on the ground. Without turning on the light, she walked to the door in the dark and peered out through the crack in the door.
The moonlight shone into the courtyard, reflecting a pale white light onto the snow, clearly illuminating two furtive figures.
A short, stocky man held a long knife that he had somehow acquired.
A tall, thin man carrying a carrying pole on his shoulder.
They scaled the wall with practiced ease, suggesting this wasn't their first time doing something like this.
Zhang Tiezhu.
Wang Dazhuang.
The two stopped in the courtyard, looked around, and then walked towards the door.
Fu Qing sneered, took a step back, and suddenly flung open the door. A gust of cold wind rushed in, and he blocked the doorway with his bare feet on the threshold.
The two people in the courtyard stopped in their tracks at the same time.
Zhang Tiezhu was the first to react; the panic on his face lasted only a moment before turning ruthless.
He gripped his long knife tightly, gritted his teeth, and said, "Fu Qing, you asked for this. I told you to share with me, but you wouldn't. Today, I'll take it myself."
Wang Dazhuang stood behind him, holding the carrying pole across his chest, his eyes darting furtively into the house.
"Why waste words with him? The grain and meat are all ours, and we shouldn't leave his two women out of the picture. Both sisters are beautiful and lovely, we..."
Before he could finish speaking, Fu Qing made a move.
He covered the distance of three or four meters from the threshold to the center of the courtyard in just two steps.
Wang Dazhuang only saw a dark shadow coming straight at him, and he raised his carrying pole to block it.
With a crack, the fist slammed into the middle of the carrying pole, breaking the wrist-thick hardwood pole in two. The force of the punch did not diminish, and it slammed heavily into Wang Dazhuang's chest.
Wang Dazhuang flew out, his back slammed against the courtyard wall, and he slid to the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood. He couldn't even get up.
Zhang Tiezhu's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
Without thinking twice, he gritted his teeth and stabbed Fu Qing with the knife, the tip of the blade aimed at his chest.
Fu Qing dodged to the side, the blade grazing past his cotton-padded coat. He grabbed Zhang Tiezhu's wrist, which was holding the knife, and tightened his grip.
Zhang Tiezhu's face contorted instantly, his bones cracking, and the pain caused him to loosen his grip, dropping the long sword to the ground.
"you..."
Fu Qing kicked him in the knee, and he screamed and fell to his knees on the snow, his kneecap shattered.
Fu Qing released his wrist and took a step back, looking down at the two of them.
One was slumped against the wall, coughing up blood, while the other was kneeling on the ground, hugging his knees and howling.
Just these two moves.
A punch, a kick.
The average physical fitness level of an ordinary person is around five points, while a stronger hunter might only reach twelve or thirteen points at most.
Fu Qing's current stats are all close to 20: Strength 17, Endurance 21, Agility 18.
Beating two guys who can't even get enough to eat is like spinning a top.
Zhang Tiezhu knelt on the ground, trembling with pain, and looked up at Fu Qing.
Under the moonlight, Fu Qing stood in the courtyard, shirtless, his muscles bulging like iron.
Zhang Tiezhu finally felt fear and desperately kowtowed.
"Fu Qing, Brother Fu, we were wrong, please forgive us this time, we'll never dare to do it again..."
Wang Dazhuang also struggled to his feet, knelt on the ground and begged for mercy, blood and foam still spitting from his mouth.
"Please, let us go! We have wives and children at home..."
Fu Qing looked at them, her face expressionless.
The door opened again, and Song Yawei stood in the doorway, wearing a coat. The moonlight shone on her face, making her look somewhat pale.
She looked at the two people kneeling on the ground, then at Fu Qing, and her mouth moved slightly.
"Master, spare their lives."
Fu Qing turned to look at her.
Song Yawei lowered her head, her voice even softer, "After all, it involves two lives."
She was a kind-hearted girl who hadn't experienced much hardship and couldn't bear to see blood or dead people.
Even though these two people broke in at night to steal food and kill people, she still subconsciously felt that she couldn't kill them so easily.
Fu Qing looked at her for a while, then shook his head. "In this situation, even if you let them go, they won't remember your kindness."
He turned his head and looked at Zhang Tiezhu again. Zhang Tiezhu was kneeling on the ground, his face covered in blood, but Fu Qing could see clearly what was hidden in his eyes—resentment, unwillingness, and hatred.
"They didn't get any food today, but they'll come back tomorrow."
Fu Qing remained calm. "If I don't get it tomorrow, I'll come the day after. I'll do anything to survive. If I want to live, I have to be ruthless."
Song Yawei stood at the door in silence for a while, without saying anything more. She turned around, lowered her head, and walked back into the house, closing the door behind her.
Seeing Song Yawei leave, Zhang Tiezhu struggled frantically to his feet, his face contorted with rage. "Fu Qing! How dare you..."
He didn't say the rest.
Fu Qing bent down and picked up Zhang Tiezhu's long knife from the ground.
[Congratulations, host, for killing Zhang Tiezhu. You have gained 10 plunder points.]
[Congratulations, host, for killing Liu Dazhuang. You have gained 10 plunder points.]
...
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking.
Fu Qing dragged the two corpses out of the courtyard gate, walked to the main street in the center of the village, and threw the corpses on the ground.
The early-rising villagers saw it one by one, one or two stopped, then three or five, and more and more people gathered.
No one dared to step forward; they all stood a few steps away, hunched over, staring wide-eyed at the two stiff bodies on the ground.
It was Zhang Tiezhu and Wang Dazhuang.
All eyes slowly shifted to Fu Qing.
He stood beside the two corpses, his cotton-padded coat stained with blood, his face expressionless, as he glanced at the villagers who had gathered around.
"If anyone dares to mess with my family again, this will be their fate."
No one dared to utter a sound.
Some people in the crowd gasped, some instinctively took a half step back, and some lowered their heads, unable to meet his gaze.
Two hunters scaled the wall into Fu Qing's yard in the middle of the night, and by dawn they were found dead, their bodies dragged out onto the street.
Fu Qing didn't say another word and turned to walk towards his home.
The crowd automatically parted to make way for him, and he strode past without anyone daring to stop him.
In the crowd, village chief Liu Laogen stood at the front, wearing a tattered cotton robe with seven or eight patches, his hands tucked into his sleeves.
He glanced down at Zhang Tiezhu's corpse on the ground. "Two useless pieces of trash..."
As he spoke, he raised his head and stared intently at Fu Qing's retreating figure as she disappeared through the courtyard gate, gritting his teeth inwardly.
"Kid, I'll show you who's really in charge in this village!"
