It's hard to quit, but it's the perfect marriage!
Chapter 24 "My husband, Zhou Yinghuai".
Zhou Yinghuai just wanted to try calling to see if he could get through, but he didn't expect her to actually answer.
Did I disturb your sleep?
Zhu Xi rolled over. "No, I was playing a game and trying to beat it. You called and I failed again."
Zhou Yinghuai: "What game?"
She had originally intended to say it was alright, but now she was deliberately teasing him, "In racing cars, there are some curves you just can't get past."
Zhou Yinghuai was unaware that the driver had already told Zhu Xi about the racing.
"Is the game difficult?"
"Difficult!" she said deliberately, placing her phone aside and shining it on the cloud-shaped chandelier.
She sat up and leaned against the headboard, quickly tied her hair up, and then picked up her phone again to look at the handsome man on the screen. "The person who developed this game must be a freak; only a professional racer can pass the level."
Zhou Yinghuai had a vague feeling that he was being targeted today, but unfortunately he couldn't find any evidence.
Zhu Xi remained calm. "You still haven't told me what you wanted to see me about?"
The two had just parted ways yesterday. Although she fell asleep as soon as she saw him off at the airport, at least her feelings were there.
He said everything he needed to say, and even left comments about things he shouldn't have.
She saw it and believed it.
Zhu Xi couldn't think of anything else that could have prompted him to call just as dawn was breaking.
"You didn't stay up all night again, did you?" she asked.
Zhou Yinghuai did not deny it, but simply said that he was used to it.
Fearing she might give him further medical advice, he added, "Don't worry, I won't be working this hard every day."
Zhu Xi smiled and admired the pimples that had broken out on her chin in front of the camera.
His cheeks puffed out, losing the seriousness of a chief resident and gaining a touch of childlike charm.
"Wishing you happiness."
"Um?"
"Ah Xing is coming to see me at noon."
Zhu Xi paused, moving her phone screen slightly away from her ear. "Hmm?"
He was reporting to her.
Realizing this, Zhu Xi felt as if a feather had fallen from her heart.
She looked up and happened to meet Zhou Yinghuai's staring gaze.
"Want to eat together?" she countered. "What's so great about white food?"
Zhou Yinghuai: "..."
-
A week has passed quickly.
Congratulations to my college classmate on his wedding, which was held in the suburbs.
The driver picked her up at the agreed time.
After handing over her work, Zhu Xi changed into a white dress and prepared to go downstairs.
I unexpectedly saw Su Daiqing in the elevator.
"Finally caught you."
Zhu Xi rolled her eyes, but it was too late to back out of the elevator.
Su Daiqing grabbed her arm and pulled her inside.
"I was just waiting for you to come down from here."
Su Daiqing was talking to herself, looking at her outfit today in a daze.
Her hair was half-up, and she wore a white dress with the hem falling just to her calves.
On her feet were flat, soft shoes with ribbons wrapped around her ankles.
He smirked. "Changed your style these past few years?"
She rarely wore skirts when she was in school.
Zhu Xi ignored him and took out her earphones from her bag and put them on.
Su Daiqing wasn't angry. She leaned on the elevator handrail with one hand and took the initiative to explain, "I just officially started working yesterday. I didn't intentionally disappear and ignore you these past few days."
Zhu Xi remained silent.
Su Daiqing sighed, "Xixi, I won't leave again, you believe me."
"Xi Xi, I've been single for the past few years since we broke up," Su Daiqing said, looking at her calm profile. "Let's start over."
Zhu Xi clutched the bag in her left hand, her fingertips turning white, her eyes clear.
The cool air above her head seemed to be free, blowing out the biting chill of early winter.
The elevator quickly arrived at the first floor, and the metal doors slowly opened.
Zhu Xi raised an eyebrow, turned her head to look at him, her bright eyes saying nothing, yet seemingly saying everything.
Su Daiqing: "I promise it won't affect your position as dean."
"Bullshit!" she cursed, stepping out of the elevator with her left foot first. "You've already caused a disturbance."
"Where? Tell me, and I'll change it."
Zhu Xi: "Your very presence in this hospital is affecting me. The fact that you're still breathing through your nose is affecting me!!!"
She wanted him to roll away, but she underestimated Su Daiqing's shamelessness.
He caught up with her, laughing heartily, "I knew it, you're a sucker for men!"
Zhu Xi stomped on his foot hard, "You son of a bitch!"
"My uncle is in the graveyard, go dig him up."
The two chased each other to the entrance of the inpatient department.
The morning sun was just as intense and bright, almost dazzling.
The driver was waiting nearby, and when he saw her come out, he opened the back door first.
"Miss Zhu."
The driver changed his way of addressing her last time; he no longer addressed her as "wife" in front of Zhu Xi's colleagues.
Zhu Xi smiled and said, "Thank you for coming to see me off."
The driver said it wasn't hard work, "I've already bought what you asked me to buy, it's in the back seat."
Su Daiqing was oblivious to the situation. "Xixi, how much is your total hospital salary? You're taking such an expensive private car."
Zhu Xi found it annoying and thought, "Go to hell, okay?"
Su Daiqing smiled innocently, but was anything but human. "Oh, this time it's on me. My salary should be higher than yours."
She tried to stop him, but couldn't stop her ex-boyfriend, who was as agile as a monkey and deliberately teased her.
He had no choice but to reveal his trump card: "Su Daiqing, I'm married."
As soon as the words were spoken, a pair of bright leather shoes appeared in the back seat of the car after the door opened.
Next came her long, slender, and powerful legs encased in black trousers.
Next was Zhou Yinghuai, whose complexion was not quite normal.
"Zhu Xi," he called her, with an undeniable familiarity and sense of ownership.
"Why are you back again?" Zhu Xi walked towards Zhou Yinghuai, her gaze shifting between him and Zhou Yinghuai, a tacit understanding of concern already formed between them.
How long have you been abroad? Why are you back?
Zhou Yinghuai gently put his arm around her elbow, without being overly intimate or making outsiders feel distant.
"Something came up at home, and my mom called me back to handle it," he explained, brushing a strand of hair that had fallen near her eyes aside. "Old Bai said you needed the car today, so we came over together."
At such close range, Zhu Xi could even see the bloodshot veins in his eyes.
Zhu Xi smiled. "A few days back?"
Zhou Yinghuai smiled and said, "Wait until after your birthday."
Zhu Xi nodded repeatedly and took his arm. "Let me introduce you, Su Daiqing, a new colleague in the medical department."
Zhou Yinghuai knew everything about the man in front of him.
The day after Su Daiqing was bumped into by Zhou Lingyi, her annoying brother-in-law, who was recovering at home from a fractured bone, sent all of Su Daiqing's information to his desk abroad.
It was placed alongside project reports that amounted to hundreds of millions of dollars.
Lan Qi even called him specifically to tell him not to thank her, his words clearly mocking Zhou Yinghuai.
The original words were, "Brother, you don't need to fly back. If your backyard is on fire, it's not urgent to put it out from a thousand miles away. I, your brother-in-law who is disliked and treated coldly by you, can lend a hand. As for water, I have plenty. If all else fails, we can make that kid parachute in and then fly away again."
Blue Flag smugly boasted, "Flying to Siberia to grow potatoes?"
Zhou Yinghuai snorted coldly, "Don't worry about it. Mrs. Zhou is frank and clear-headed, and has a strong sense of security."
And now, he has seen it with his own eyes.
He simply looked Su Daiqing up and down, and in just one glance he knew that this ex-boyfriend with the youthful, cheerful smile had been ruled out by Mrs. Zhou standing beside him.
The hand resting on his elbow tightened, causing him to lower his eyes and look directly at her.
Zhu Xi introduced again, "Let me introduce Su Daiqing."
"My husband, Zhou Yinghuai."
Zhou Yinghuai's chin sank slightly. "Hmm, who is he?"
"My ex-boyfriend just came back, and coincidentally, he also works at this hospital."
Su Daiqing's face stiffened, and she clenched her fists tightly.
Zhou Yinghuai, calm and composed, asked Zhu Xi, "Where are you going so early in the morning?"
Zhu Xi smiled faintly, "It's a university classmate's wedding, I'm going to the suburbs to attend the wedding."
She wanted him to go home and sleep, but what came out was, "Let's go together. I can introduce you to some of my friends."
Zhou Yinghuai agreed, then turned to look at Su Daiqing.
"Su, welcome back. Want to come together?"
