It's hard to quit, but it's the perfect marriage!
Chapter 3 We are now husband and wife. You can come to me with any needs you may have.
"Hmm." Zhou Yinghuai took it and put it in his pants pocket.
Clearly, he was still waiting to see her true intentions.
Zhu Xi handed him a small bottle of water, saying, "I'm going to be the dean."
Zhou Yinghuai: "I know, you said it on the day we got our marriage certificate."
Zhu Xi sighed and continued, "It's just that colleagues might joke about it. These people go too far with their words, you..."
She stopped halfway through her sentence.
When doctors make jokes, they're usually 80% meat-based and not vegetarian at all.
Zhou Yinghuai seemed to understand but not quite. He reached out and took it, twisted it open, and pushed it back to her.
He had only extended halfway when he saw her drinking her beverage, so he quietly withdrew his hand.
He tilted his head back and took a sip, his voice clear and pleasant, "I understand. Next time, I'll schedule a time with you in advance."
Zhu Xi wanted to say that you didn't have to come.
If you take what I said when we got our marriage certificate seriously, I wasn't just being polite.
Also, if you really want to send food, drinks and warmth, you don't need to come in person; your assistant, secretary, or driver can all do it.
But she swallowed all of this silently and gave a formulaic smile.
Zhou Yinghuai watched her leave the dormitory, and then quickly return.
Pushing a chair that I don't know where I found it from, it's not very new.
So the two of them sat at opposite ends of the desk.
In the awkward silence, Zhu Xi finished the rest of her drink in one gulp, raised her wrist high, and drew a perfect parabola in the air.
The beverage bottle landed perfectly in the center of the trash can.
Zhou Yinghuai observed this and asked, "You like basketball?"
Zhu Xi said casually, "My brother likes it. You become like those you associate with, so I learned a few tricks from him."
"Oh." Zhou Yinghuai became even calmer after realizing he was being disliked.
The half-open window caused the heavy pages of the book to swell and tremble for a long time.
The corner of the book is stuck to the front page, and it cannot be turned without external force.
But she easily blew her faint hair fragrance towards Zhou Yinghuai.
He could smell it; it was a very faint jasmine scent, with a hint of coolness.
Zhou Yinghuai couldn't tell the difference, but he felt that the light flavor matched the beautiful woman beside him who was legally his closest confidante.
Zhu Xi plugged in her phone to charge and looked up at him.
The wind continued to blow, gently lifting the corner of the book.
Zhou Yinghuai was reading her professional book when he felt her gaze and looked up.
Their eyes met.
"What's wrong?" he asked first.
"You came here just to look at my professional books?" she asked, genuinely curious.
Zhou Yinghuai explained, "I wanted to bring you dinner, but you didn't answer the phone."
Zhu Xi glanced at the bouquet of flowers placed to the side and thought to herself, "Why is this guy always eating?"
"So you brought me a bouquet of flowers and some trendy snacks."
"Lingyi likes to follow trends and eat these things, so I just bought some." His tone was still the same, clear and calm.
Zhu Xi raised an eyebrow, smiling as she looked at Zhou Yinghuai's serious face.
It seemed that everything was commonplace to him.
Zhu Xi suddenly had a mischievous thought. She shook her head slightly, pointed to the refrigerator, and said, "It has everything."
"Those are for replenishing energy, these are for passing the time." He separated them meticulously, and I thought I had delivered the wrong thing again. "Don't you eat these often?"
Zhu Xi shook her head again, "I eat it. My best friend buys it for me when she visits me in prison."
She treated this dormitory like a prison.
Finding joy in hardship.
"I'll buy it for you later," he said.
It was like a boulder as heavy as a mountain crashing into a deep pool, splashing a few water droplets and creating ripples, but without making a sound.
Zhu Xi raised an eyebrow and accepted the offer.
She picked up a skewer of candied hawthorns, with taro paste sandwiched in the middle, slightly sweet.
"Did you let Lingyi eat these?"
Zhou Yinghuai has a slight case of obsessive-compulsive disorder; he straightened out all the boxes that she had messed up.
"Why not?" He focused on tidying the table. "My family isn't picky about food."
Zhu Xi laughed, amused at herself for judging the appetites of the wealthy with the mindset of a poor person. "I thought you wouldn't eat these things."
Zhou Yinghuai finally stopped, looking at her glistening lips and her bright, teasing eyes, "We're just ordinary people."
Zhu Xi took a bite off the top layer of taro and hawthorn paste, and Zhou Yinghuai naturally took the rest.
"Try other flavors," he said earnestly and sincerely.
"Your sister got married quite early." Although Zhu Xi had never met her younger sister who married young, she had a very good impression of her.
Zhou Yinghuai ate what she left over, and only spoke after he finished chewing, "An incurable love-struck fool."
"You don't seem to have a high opinion of your brother-in-law?"
I don't comment on people I don't like.
Zhu Xi smiled, truly the legendary perfect older brother.
So, in order to avoid an awkward silence, we tried to make conversation.
"Aren't you busy lately?" Coming twice in one day seems a bit too frequent.
Zhou Yinghuai's tone was neither too loud nor too soft, and the topic had circled back to itself. He simply stated it bluntly, "I'm not busy. As long as I'm not on a business trip, I always have time to have dinner with you."
These words seem to contradict what was said before getting the marriage certificate.
He looked at her, his gaze lingering on her fair and slightly mischievous face. "I think even if we don't have any romantic feelings for each other, we still need a process of getting to know each other."
"Zhu Xi, you and I may be spending our whole lives together."
Zhu Xi's chin sank slightly, seemingly making sense. "Alright, eating and drinking won't affect my role as dean."
Zhou Yinghuai nodded solemnly, "Where there's a will, there's a way. Keep it up."
Zhu Xi started rambling again, "If I don't become the hospital director, you can build me a hospital. I won't take it for free; you provide the funding, and I'll contribute my expertise."
Zhou Yinghuai was in the same serious mood as always, as serious as a robot. "Okay, you decide on the scale, I'll provide the funding."
Zhu Xi found it boring and shut up.
The two sat quietly for a while, and only a small portion of the snacks were eaten.
The lights were bright, and the two occasionally glanced at each other before quickly looking away.
In the quiet and cozy moment, a rapid knocking came from the door.
She is the nurse on duty.
"Doctor, bed number 6 isn't very good."
Gao Yanei was not at his post again.
Zhu Xi darted out, grabbed the white coat, and said, "You can go now, just put the rest in the fridge for me."
Before the words were even finished, the person had vanished without a trace.
All that could be heard was the sound of footsteps sprinting down the corridor. Just as Zhou Yinghuai stood up, the sound disappeared.
He glanced at the corner where she disappeared, took a step back, put the remaining snacks in a food storage container, and put it in the refrigerator.
He politely flipped through the items and, relying on his excellent memory, determined what was missing from the ones he had personally put in at noon.
Zhu Xi's preferences were quite broad.
Zhou Yinghuai closed the refrigerator door and stood in the center of the dormitory, looking around.
In the end, he couldn't hold back and started hitting again.
Soon, Zhu Xi's small office was clean and tidy again.
Except for her bed.
After finishing his work, Zhou Yinghuai sat down in a chair and began flipping through books on neurosurgery.
Even for a highly intelligent academic like him, books that are too specialized are somewhat difficult to read.
He spent half an hour reading just two pages, glancing at the bed every now and then.
Finally, unable to bear it any longer, he took action against the bed.
He picked up the thin blanket he had huddled together and took it outside to the hallway to shake it out.
A pair of long cotton socks fell out of the quilt, with dog paw prints on them and signs that they had been worn.
Zhou Yinghuai calmly picked up the quilt, folded it neatly, placed it on the chair, and began to tidy up the bed.
He picked up the pillow and, in the light, plucked out a few long black hairs.
Zhou Yinghuai looked at the dazzling array of small items under his pillow, his expression complex.
Like Zhou Lingyi, Zhu Xi liked to hide things under her pillow.
Hair clips, hair ties, and earrings are all common items.
Sometimes you can even find scissors and pens under your pillow.
The most outrageous thing Zhou Lingyi ever did was putting fluorescent paper under her pillow.
Clearly, Zhu Xi was even more outstanding than Zhou Lingyi.
Two eye masks, several hair ties, and then there are tissues and wet wipes.
Zhou Yinghuai found a nice-looking paper bag on the upper bunk and put the odds and ends under her pillow into it.
When spreading out the sheets, I noticed an unevenness in the corner against the wall.
Lifting a corner reveals a slender, slightly curved, and textured object.
Zhou Yinghuai picked it up and examined it for a while, then said in surprise, "You're already so busy, how can you still have the time to do this?"
He put the things away, but couldn't help taking a second look.
It's full of details and has different speed settings.
Zhou Yinghuai put it in a paper bag and removed the bed sheet.
She rummaged through her simple wardrobe and found a new set of bedding, changed it, and spread it out.
Now, it finally looks much better.
With the same patience and energy he had used to take care of Zhou Lingyi, Zhou Yinghuai quickly provided Zhu Xi with a brand-new, clean, and pleasing dormitory.
The green roses he brought were placed in the vases that the errand runner had temporarily delivered, one bunch on the windowsill and another on the corner of the table.
An hour passed before the room changed its appearance.
The room owner hadn't returned yet, so Zhou Yinghuai decided not to wait for her any longer.
He left her a note, locked the door, and left.
-
The patient in bed number 6 was taken to the operating room for a second craniotomy.
It was late at night when she came out of the operating room.
When they saw Lezhi in the duty room, the two glared at each other again.
Zhu Xi was in a terrible mood and spoke first, "It turns out that bad luck won't do anything."
Lezhi was speechless. "I was just going out for a little while."
"Then please, if you wet your pants in the future, don't go out for even a short while. Adult diapers are very cheap. It's embarrassing for you to always have someone else wipe your bottom!"
Lezhi: "You..."
Zhu Xi: "I don't have a fetish for having others wipe my butt!"
Lezhi shoved a bottle of Red Bull into her arms, saying, "Drink it or don't, it's up to you."
Niu Ma Zhu Xi already harbored deep resentment, and seeing the red bull made him even angrier.
He shoved it heavily into Lezhi's pocket, saying, "I don't care!"
"you!"
"I!"
Lezhi stomped her foot, "You're so annoying!"
Zhu Xi turned her head, smugly saying, "I love how you can't stand me, but can't do anything about it!"
After saying that, he quickly slipped away.
She twisted her stiff neck, pushed open the dormitory door, took half a step inside, and then stepped back.
Only after confirming the house number and the refrigerator he was familiar with did he close the door.
The room was a pleasant surprise for her.
Zhu Xi could see the tall, straight back of the man standing in front of her desk again. She smiled, walked to the desk, and bent down to smell the fragrance of the green roses.
Two vases of fresh flowers added a touch of vibrancy to her bland and uninteresting room.
Zhou Yinghuai is not only a sister-obsessed man, but also a kind-hearted womanizer.
The annoyance of being constantly disturbed disappeared, and Zhu Xi felt that if understanding the process had such a sense of boundaries, it wouldn't be bad for Zhou Yinghuai to come more often.
She clicked her tongue a few times and casually picked up the note on the table.
Zhou Yinghuai has excellent handwriting; she noticed it the day they got their marriage certificate.
The two lines of text clearly show different brushstrokes.
The sentence below was likely added later.
The item under the pillow was in a paper bag next to it.
We are now husband and wife. You can contact me if you need anything.
