Apocalypse: I can control zombies
Chapter 106 Installing Military Cameras
Chapter 106 Installing Military Cameras
Wei Dong, watching everyone practice their marksmanship, was naturally very envious.
But he didn't forget his duty. He glanced down at the screen on the control handle, then immediately looked up and said, "Sir, the gunshots have indeed attracted all the zombies in the vicinity."
As he spoke, he handed the screen to Lu Chen. The high-definition camera of the military drone looked down from 50 meters above, and the system AI automatically marked the zombies as red dots in the picture.
The red dots at the intersection where the shooting had just started have been cleared, but the red dots on several surrounding streets are changing direction and converging on the location from which the gunfire originated; a rough estimate suggests there are no fewer than a dozen.
However, these red dots are quite scattered, some even two or three blocks away, and their movement speeds are inconsistent. They are scattered across different streets, making it difficult for them to form a cohesive force in a short period of time.
"Ignore them, just kill them when they come close. We'll continue at our own pace," Lu Chen handed the screen back to Wei Dong and gave the order.
The group continued forward, walking along the road amidst constant gunfire.
You might encounter a horde of zombies, ranging from a few to a dozen or more.
With drones overhead conducting real-time reconnaissance, Wei Dong would report the situation at the intersections ahead every few minutes, allowing them to know in advance how many zombies were crammed into each street and from which direction they were coming.
With such complete transparency of information, these scattered zombies pose absolutely no threat to the group.
Moreover, at least half of the zombies here were shot and killed by Lu Chen and his group.
The remaining small number who managed to reach the front of the formation were easily dealt with one by one by the Iron Pillar-level zombies, who were quite relaxed.
So Lu Chen gave them a new order: push aside the abandoned vehicles along the road and clear a passable path as much as possible.
The apocalypse began at 7 a.m., just as the morning rush hour was starting.
The main road of Xihuan Road was littered with vehicles colliding everywhere—some rear-ended each other, some crashed into lampposts, and some veered onto the sidewalk and crashed into shop shutters.
Dozens of vehicles were haphazardly blocking the road, with some lanes completely blocked. When the main force tried to pass, they had to squeeze through the gaps between the vehicles one by one, disrupting their formation each time.
If the area under the control of the stronghold is to be expanded in the future, this road is the only way to the west. It is unclear why it takes so long to pass through every time.
After receiving the order, the Iron Pillar-level zombies split up into two groups, each pair, and walked to the nearest abandoned car. They braced themselves against the car body with both hands and exerted force simultaneously.
The strength of the Iron Pillar-level zombies far exceeded that of ordinary zombies. They pushed a car weighing nearly two tons from the middle of the road to the side, the tires screeching as they scraped the ground.
The cars that had collided were pushed aside one by one, and the previously blocked road gradually revealed one passable lane.
And so, the group quickly arrived at the first intersection.
This is a 20-plus-story office building located at the intersection of Xihuan Road and a side road, offering a wide view. From the top floor, you can overlook several blocks around.
Of the 25 camera installation locations marked by Gao Yuan, this is the outermost location closest to Xiangyang Community, and also the first support point for the outward extension of the early warning network.
"Who's going?" Lu Chen pointed to the roof of the office building.
"Me!" Ning Tieshan and Zhao Yongqiang spoke almost simultaneously.
Seeing this, Lu Chen nodded inwardly. This was no easy task, especially with zombies in the building. This willingness to take risks was more commendable than anything else.
"Alright, Ning Tieshan will go first this time. It's more than 20 floors to climb. Just bring the camera. Leave the gun and backpack here for now, it's too much trouble. We need to be quick, we still have to go to the next location."
"Yes, sir!" Ning Tieshan immediately unloaded his backpack and automatic rifle, and took out a military camera from his carrying case. He put the camera, along with a matching mounting base and a palm-sized vacuum pump, into his waist pouch.
Lu Chen naturally couldn't let the other party go alone. He sent two Iron Pillar-level zombies to guard Ning Tieshan, and also sent an elite-level zombie cat.
This cat's speed and climbing ability are the best for fighting inside such buildings.
The killing began the moment they pushed open the glass door to the lobby of the office building.
The zombie cat darted silently into the lobby, its dark yellow eyes scanning the dim light before instantly locking onto a few zombies wandering around.
Its movements were as fast as a gray-black lightning bolt. Its claws slashed across the neck of the first zombie, and its head flew off. Before the second zombie could even react, several bloody holes had already appeared on its head.
Several zombies fell to the ground in less than 10 seconds.
Ning Tieshan, carrying a military camera, strode quickly through the lobby and climbed up the fire escape stairs. His footsteps were rapid and steady in the narrow stairwell.
The zombie cat cleared a path on the stairs in front of him. Every time Ning Tieshan turned a corner, he could see one or two zombie corpses that had just been dealt with lying at the corner.
Occasionally, a few stray zombies would rush down from upstairs, but before they could even get close to Ning Tieshan, they would be cleaved in two by the two Iron Pillar-level zombies protecting him.
Ning Tieshan arrived at the rooftop very quickly.
He bent down and looked down for a moment, then chose the best spot facing due south, where his view could cover both the southern section of West Ring Road and the eastern section of Changle Street.
Then he took out the mounting base from his waist bag, found a smooth and flat exterior wall tile, and stuck the base tightly onto it.
Next, take out the vacuum pump, align the pump nozzle with the air valve interface on the base, and press the switch.
One of the biggest advantages of this type of military camera is that it is easy to disassemble and move.
Its base is not fixed to the wall with expansion screws, but with a high-strength industrial suction cup, so it is easy to install and disassemble without damaging the building structure.
Ordinary suction cups will leak air and fall off after hanging for half an hour, so a vacuum pump is needed to evacuate the inside of the suction cup to a near-vacuum state, and use atmospheric pressure to firmly press the base onto the wall.
Under normal sea-level air pressure, a palm-sized suction cup can withstand several hundred kilograms of pulling force after being vacuumed, which is more than enough to support the weight of the camera and its base. It is so strong that it cannot be knocked off even if it is hit with a hammer, let alone exposed to wind and rain.
The installation process was not complicated. Ning Tieshan had watched the installation video beforehand and knew the order of operations and key points to note for each step.
The suction cup surface must be flat, and the vacuum pump must be stopped only when the indicator light turns green. After vacuuming, the air valve must be tightened with a wrench to lock it.
Although it was my first time installing it myself, and the wrench slipped and I almost fell off the roof when I was tightening the gas valve, it went smoothly overall.
It took about 3 minutes for the base to stick firmly to the wall.
He then inserted the camera into the slot in the base, adjusted the angle, and checked that the indicator light turned green, indicating that the device was working properly.
At this point, the surveillance footage was already being transmitted back to the monitoring screen in the security room of Xiangyang Community via the built-in local area network module.
