Night Rose

Chapter 16 Taking Advantage of Others

The drunken Su Jin pointed her finger at him, almost poking it into his nostril. Zhou Zheng tilted his head back to avoid her finger, and Su Jin burst into laughter.

Su Jin had very good skin, fair with a hint of pink from being drunk, and when she got close to Zhou Zheng, you could smell her fragrance.

This made Zhou Zheng feel dangerous, so he pushed her away a little. She lost her balance and pressed herself against him again, resting her head on his shoulder and not moving.

Zhou Zheng scrutinized this unusual side of her and snorted.

"childish."

He had been drinking and couldn't drive, so he hailed a taxi randomly on the roadside.

Sitting in the car, fearing she might do something against public order and morality, Zhou Zheng put his arm around her waist and half-forcefully controlled her hands.

Su Jin didn't feel forced. She squeezed Zhou Zheng's fingers as if she were playing with something interesting.

Su Jin leaned on his shoulder and quieted down in the car, only muttering something under her breath.

Zhou Zheng leaned closer to listen, and her voice immediately changed tone, becoming a soft humming, with no discernible words.

"Did you bring your keys?" Zhou Zheng had no choice but to ask her.

Su Jin was half-conscious when she heard him ask about the keys. She slid her head around his shoulder and then suddenly sat up.

She seriously touched her shirt pocket, only to find it empty.

She looked down and searched in her handbag, pulling out a bunch of keys that jingled as she did so.

A dazzling silver ornament hanging on the key caught her eye.

Zhou Zheng also took a closer look and saw that the keychain had a round cat-shaped pendant hanging from it.

Su Jin squinted one eye, finding the kitten particularly displeasing, and pried the ornament out of the keychain.

She raised her hand and swung it forcefully.

Before Zhou Zheng could react, a silver light flew past his eyes.

He looked back, but the silver figure had already disappeared into the grass.

"parking!"

Zhou Zheng shouted, and the driver slammed on the brakes.

"Is it trash that you just threw it away?" Zhou Zheng shouted.

Su Jin grabbed his hand, afraid he would go and find the kitten, and shook her head vigorously, "No!"

Zhou Zheng looked at her intently. "You're saying no now, but if you wake up and ask me to pay for it, I can't afford it."

Su Jin seemed not to understand what he was saying and just kept shaking her head.

"Wait!" Zhou Zheng pushed her hand away and strode out of the car.

The car had already driven some distance, and the roadside grass was growing very tall, making it a real test of eyesight to find even a small ornament.

The driver waited on the side of the road for ten minutes, finally losing patience and loudly reminding him, "Hey handsome! Waiting for a bus costs money too!"

"Got it." Zhou Zheng didn't turn his head, continuing to use his phone's flashlight to probe the bushes.

He painfully calculated the cost; Su Jin was so drunk, and he would have to pay for the ride. If he couldn't find another place, he might as well give up.

Anyway, it was Su Jin who threw it. Even if she causes trouble, it's her own fault, and she can't blame anyone else.

"It's been twelve minutes!" the driver yelled again.

Zhou Zheng stood up, sweat beading on his forehead, and his back ached from bending over.

Just as he was about to give up, he stepped on a hard object as he turned around.

He lifted his foot and saw a silver object sink into the mud.

He dug the kitten out, wiped it casually on his pants, and stuffed it into his pocket.

After a delay, the driver, in a bad mood, dropped them off downstairs and demanded an extra twenty yuan.

Zhou Zheng supported Su Jin with one hand and slapped the taxi door with the other, his eyes dangerous. "I'll add ten yuan at most, or we'll go to the police station for a chat."

"Hey, you..." The taxi driver wanted to argue, but seeing Zhou Zheng's expression, his momentum instantly weakened, and he reluctantly said, "Fine, fine, fine!"

Zhou Zheng took out a few slightly crumpled banknotes from his pocket and handed them to the driver. The driver frowned, counted them, suppressed his resentment, rolled his eyes, and drove off.

Su Jin rented a small building with only five floors and an elevator. She lived on the third floor, where the lighting and ventilation were excellent.

When Zhou Zheng took the key to open the door, Su Jin was still obediently leaning against him. But as soon as they entered, Su Jin started begging for water.

"Drink water! I need water! I'm thirsty!"

"Okay! Drink some water. Sit there! Don't move around." Zhou Zheng tossed the person onto the sofa.

Su Jin lay on her back on the sofa, her eyes lowered, her cheeks flushed, continuing to mumble drunken ramblings.

If this person hadn't been a team engineer, Zhou Zheng would have ignored her long ago.

Zhou Zheng poured her a glass of water and, worried she might choke, helped her sit up.

"Drink water."

Su Jin didn't take the water. Instead, she stared at Zhou Zheng with her almond-shaped eyes, as if she were sizing him up.

Zhou Zheng didn't mind at all, pointing to himself and asking, "Am I handsome?"

Su Jin blinked, a strange light flickering in her eyes, and answered honestly, "Handsome!"

Before Zhou Zheng could react, the beautiful face in front of him suddenly magnified, and the weight of an adult pressed him down onto the sofa.

Hot lips pressed against his, and Zhou Zheng reacted instantly, lifting his chin.

A kiss parted his lips and landed on his cheek.

"Damn it!" Zhou Zheng gasped for breath, restraining Su Jin. He said angrily, "Are you never going to stop taking advantage of me?"

The person on top of her didn't speak. Su Jin half-supported herself, half-pressed on him, and looked at him with a wronged expression. "You're mean to me."

Zhou Zheng really wanted to sigh to the heavens. He was completely exasperated by Su Jin's antics. His voice softened, "I won't yell at you, get up first!"

"You're being mean to me." Su Jin repeated this sentence, no longer supporting herself with her hands, and simply lay down on Zhou Zheng's chest.

Zhou Zheng's chest heaved, his heart pounding like a drum. Not only his heart was pounding, but his whole body was restless.

He's so busy every day that he barely has time to sit down and has no time to think about anything else.

Having just drunk alcohol, and with Su Jin's outburst, his blood was boiling, making it hard for him not to stray into the wrong direction.

"I said, let's make a deal, can you get up? If you don't get up, I'm going to 'get up'!" Zhou Zheng said through gritted teeth.

Su Jin shook her head against his chest, pressing down on him without letting go. The temperature between them rose higher and higher, and even Zhou Zheng, who usually had a high alcohol tolerance, felt the dizzying effects of the alcohol starting to rise.

"...Mingzhou..."

Su Jin murmured the sticky name softly, tears welling up in her eyes.

Just as Zhou Zheng was about to push her away forcefully, he felt his chest being wet with tears. He tilted his head slightly and saw the string of tears in Su Jin's eyes. He couldn't bear to push her away with the hand he had raised.

How can someone cry so hard with their eyes closed?

Zhou Zheng had nowhere to put his hands, so they dangled in the air for a moment before landing on her back and patting her gently.

Feeling comforted, Su Jin tightly hugged the lifeline in front of her. This feeling was just as warm as the scoundrel she had met in New York, making her reluctant to let go.

Zhou Zheng sighed, his words carrying a heavy weight.

Is that Zhou her ex-boyfriend?

Crying like this for your ex-boyfriend, how pathetic.

Wait until I win you a championship, and you won't even remember who your ex-boyfriend was.
