Night Rose

Chapter 21 That kid is interested in Su Jin

Su Jin shook her head. She knew clearly that there was still a gap between them and professional players, but how big the gap was depended on Zhou Zheng's progress.

"We can't win yet."

"We can't win?! They're the favorites to win!" Tu Ying immediately stood up, nervously looking at the audience. "My 100,000 yuan!!"

"Sit down, I meant now!" Su Jin rubbed her temples, looking exasperated.

"What's the trick? Does it guarantee victory in the competition?" Tu Ying sat down expectantly, her eyes burning with anticipation.

Su Jin calculated the days and said, "There's still some time before the competition, no rush. Let's see how strong our opponents are first."

Sitting in the race car, Zhou Zheng was not nervous at all. He was very calm. Wang Tianle next to him was also relaxed. He seemed to be a natural optimist. Whether he won first place or not was not important to him.

He was willing to participate in the competition simply because Zhou Zheng was participating; there was no other reason.

"Brother Zhou, don't you think that guy has feelings for Sister Su?" Wang Tianle asked, stroking his chin.

Zhou Zheng raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Who is it?"

"That blond guy with the dyed hair, his eyes practically popped out of his head when he looked at Sister Su." Wang Tianle pointed to the helmet, a hint of worry in his voice. "Do you think they might try to steal Sister Su away?"

"Does your sister Su even consider blondie?"

"Yeah, Zhou is way more handsome! Sister Su's taste can't be that bad!"

"you……"

Over the radio, Su Jin finally couldn't hold back any longer, "Hey! What are you chatting about? Let's get down to business!"

"Why are you eavesdropping?" Zhou Zheng tapped his helmet, making a little noise.

"Everyone else has almost finished running, why aren't you setting off yet?" Su Jin said through gritted teeth.

"Understood! We'll set off now," Zhou Zheng said with a smile.

The race car roared, its engine revving at full power, and it shot off.

Su Jin carefully observed the various data on the computer. The data was jumping around densely. Tu Ying stared at it for a while, but he couldn't understand it and his eyes were blurry, so he could only stare at the small black dots on the track.

After quickly passing through the first straight section, the first curve appeared ahead.

The seemingly smooth high-speed left turn, after sacrificing speed in the curve, is not easy for the vehicle to exit. Lightly apply the brakes to test the ground grip.

"The left 3rd wheel was fully nitroed and had decent grip."

"Understood." Wang Tianle wrote it down in the route book.

……

"The last bend, right 4, there's a long straight ahead, go full throttle after the uphill."

With each location Zhou Zheng reported, Wang Tianle's route map gradually took shape. After adding the last symbol that he could understand, Wang Tianle grinned and said, "Done!"

Su Jin smiled with relief when she heard the sound from the earpiece.

These two are finally starting to look decent; at least they can handle the game!

After they returned to the starting point, they saw He Zhangxing's car waiting nearby, while He Zhangxing and Huang Mao stood by, talking to Su Jin.

Su Jin tried to get information out of them, and she kept probing them. He Zhangxing was cunning and didn't say anything useful, but Huang Mao was different; he was always led by the nose by Su Jin.

As soon as Zhou Zheng's car arrived, she interrupted the conversation with a smile, "Our race car driver has arrived."

"This guy calls himself a race car driver?" The blond guy rolled his eyes dismissively.

Su Jin already understood He Zhangxing's style and the basic performance of the race car just by looking at their car.

Based on her experience in racing, He Zhangxing's car performance was still not up to par. The engineers were incompetent and the modifications were far from ideal, and the car didn't even match He Zhangxing's style.

He Zhangxing's skill level was far inferior to the racing drivers Su Jin had coached, which relieved Su Jin.

At least Zhou Zheng's advantages became apparent: he had a stable mindset and an aggressive driving style, which was completely different from his driving an unlicensed taxi.

He never hesitates to accelerate through corners, and he always manages to brake at the most crucial moment. He was born to be a race car driver.

"Su Jin, the car feels a bit swaying when it goes around the corner, it's not very comfortable," Zhou Zheng said.

Su Jin crouched down and touched the tire with the back of her hand. "This track has many curves, requiring precise steering and minimal body roll. I'll adjust the suspension again. The inside of the left front tire is hotter than the outside; you were taking too much of the kerb on the hairpin turn."

"That's faster." Zhou Zheng shrugged indifferently.

"Dancing on the edge of a knife! The tire temperature will be much higher during a real race. If you don't want the tires anymore, just say so and withdraw from the race." Su Jin glared at him.

Zhou Zheng had no choice but to surrender. Fine, let the professionals handle the professional matters.

"The engine tuning is fine, and the throttle control when exiting corners is very precise, keeping it at the critical point of grip. When we race against them later, we can just accelerate on the long straight after the first corner, and we don't need to chase hard afterwards, so we can conserve our energy," Su Jin said.

Zhou Zheng didn't argue with her about this; whatever she said, went.

However, he had his own understanding of the latest braking point and wouldn't completely follow Su Jin's opinion.

"Ready? Want to run a lap?" He Zhangxing asked loudly.

"Want us to give you a few seconds?" the blond-haired guy laughed arrogantly.

Others might have felt insulted, but Zhou Zheng didn't think so at all. "Fine, I'll give you five seconds."

He Zhangxing smiled and nodded, then turned his back to Zhou Zheng and coldly stared at Huang Mao. Huang Mao touched his face guiltily, "They should be fine, judging from their expressions, they won't lose even if they let us win for five seconds."

"Of course." He Zhangxing narrowed his eyes.

If he loses, where will he put his face? A professional racer losing to a driver from a lousy team is something to be laughed at!

Su Jin gave them a thumbs up and returned to the stands.

The two cars were parked side by side, and an electronic timer in the distance was ticking down. The departure staff stood beside the car, holding a stopwatch and a whistle. As the countdown reached zero, the whistle blew through the air.

Without blinking, Zhou Zheng released the clutch the instant the whistle blew, the tires kicked up a cloud of dust on the asphalt road, and the race car roared off!

He Zhangxing chuckled dismissively and started the race car at the second whistle.

The chase between the mechanical beasts was decided in seconds. He Zhangxing quickly caught up with the car in front on the straight road and then made a last-ditch effort to kill Zhou Zheng on the curve.

Zhou Zheng wasn't in a hurry. His car had no advantage on the curves, so he let He Zhangxing overtake him, and then the two cars passed each other on the main straight.

"Blow them up on the straightaway."

Full speed ahead!

Su Jin's voice came through the earpiece.

Zhou Zheng floored the accelerator, giving it full throttle, and the engine roared instantly, blurring the scenery on both sides into indistinct lines, endlessly stimulating the senses.

The entire car body trembled violently from the engine's vibrations; Zhou Zheng could see the dashboard and the windshield frame vibrating.

He gripped the steering wheel firmly, his blood boiling, his competitive spirit roaring to overtake that person.

In his field of vision, the car in front was getting closer and closer...
