Night Rose

Chapter 9 Talented Racers

The old race car shuddered for a few seconds, the roar accompanied by the smell of burning engine oil sending adrenaline soaring.

Su Jin gripped the handle tightly, her other hand resting on the seatbelt.

"Hold on tight."

Zhou Zheng's voice came from inside the helmet, making it even more heartbreaking.

A tremendous push came over her back, and Su Jin once again felt the power of the mechanical beast.

But this time, she wasn't in a luxury race car worth tens of millions, but in a beat-up car that only cost 40,000 to rent for a month!

A low growl of barely suppressed excitement came from beside him, but it was immediately dissipated.

Su Jin looked at the scenery rushing past through the windshield and tried to turn her head to look at Zhou Zheng.

Wearing a black helmet, Zhou Zheng focused intently, his muscles taut as he steadily controlled the steering wheel.

He said he had never been on a racetrack, but Su Jin sensed from him the composure that professional racers have cultivated over time, as well as a ruthless driving style.

As a racer in extreme sports, you must always maintain a top-level mindset and be absolutely focused and calm.

Do not be afraid of the track, do not be afraid of speed, and achieve the ideal state of oneness between man and machine.

After witnessing Zhou Zheng's driving skills, Su Jin's uneasy heart finally calmed down, and she slowly adjusted her breathing.

Only one thought remained in my mind.

Zhou Zheng, the champion of Nanyuan, you must take him down!

After completing a lap at breakneck speed, Su Jin leaned against the railing outside the track, unable to calm down for a long time.

As a racing engineer, she could clearly sense Zhou Zheng's strength; he really didn't seem like a novice.

If you're a beginner, then you're a natural talent!

On his first time on the racetrack, he drove as smoothly as if he were driving home, braking to near the limit at every turn.

On several occasions when he didn't perform well, he was able to perfectly grasp the optimal braking point after reconnaissance with the navigator.

Zhou Zheng took off his helmet, shook his head, and smoothed his prickly hair with his palm.

"How did I, someone who's never competed before, perform?"

Su Jin gave a thumbs up.

"You're still a bit behind professional race car drivers, but considering your unorthodox approach to entering the racing world, this is already a pretty good performance."

Zhou Zheng raised an eyebrow, probably not expecting that this woman, with whom he had always been at odds, would actually praise him.

"Didn't you say you'd never been on a racetrack before? How come you know this place so well? Are you lying to me? Did you deliberately lower my expectations so you could wow everyone?" Su Jin asked.

Zhou Zheng was amused by her and laughed heartily a few times without any attempt to hide it. "What's the point of lying to you? You can find videos of this professional track online. I just watched a bit."

"Oh?" Su Jin was surprised. She thought they were just a makeshift team going to embarrass themselves, but she didn't expect Zhou Zheng to have actually done a serious research.

But just by relying on the strategy guide and without actually running the actual race, he was already quite good at demonstrating the strength he showed earlier. With professional training, Zhou Zheng's growth in the later stages will be terrifying.

Su Jin had already come up with a training plan suitable for Zhou Zheng in her mind. She took out her phone and quickly tapped the screen to write it down, completely unaware that someone was approaching from the side.

Tu Ying rushed over, hugged Zhou Zheng tightly, patted his back hard, and couldn't hide her joy on her face.

"Brother Zhou, you're really something! I knew you were right! You ran so fast just now, even Little Fatty and I couldn't keep up!"

Tu Ying and Wang Tianle had been watching from the sidelines, but Zhou Zheng ran too fast and disappeared from their sight in the blink of an eye.

"My brother Zhou is definitely capable! I knew that a long time ago." Wang Tianle smiled, his dimples deepening.

Su Jin gestured downwards to signal them to be quiet. "Wait, besides the race car driver, there's another crucial point."

"The race car." Zhou Zheng stretched his arms lazily. "It's not too bad; it can last until the end."

Su Jin disagreed, giving him a sidelong glance. "Tell me the truth, is it to save Boss Tu money?"

"No problem at all." Zhou Zheng shrugged nonchalantly.

Su Jin glanced at Tu Ying again. Tu Ying didn't dare to meet her gaze, and guiltily touched the tip of her nose. She looked up at the sky and said, "The weather is really nice today. We chose a good day for our test drive."

"Boss, you're avoiding the question about Sister Su," Wang Tianle said seriously.

The truth earned Wang Tianle a Dragon Subduing Eighteen Palms strike from Tu Ying, who made him scream in pain.

Zhou Zheng shielded Wang Tianle behind him, and just one glance from him calmed Tu Ying down.

Su Jin, who was taking notes, thought for a moment and realized that there were no additional training programs needed for the time being.

She pointed a finger at the chubby boy, "Has his navigator's license been issued yet?"

Su Jin had lost all trust in this team, except for Zhou Zheng's skills.

"I'm getting ready to take the exam." Tu Ying smiled politely, his charming demeanor making him look incredibly irritating.

Su Jin calculated that it was still not too late to take the exam; a G-level certificate would be enough for the city-level competition.

"Okay, this certificate is easy to get, but Little Fatty needs to study hard," Su Jin said seriously, looking at Wang Tianle. "Your brother Zhou and your own safety depend on the way you make the road book. If the road book is wrong, the race car will go out of control in an instant."

Wang Tianle seemed much more reliable than the other two, promising with his round, adorable face, "I will definitely study hard for the certification!"

Su Jin changed the subject and said to Tu Ying with a smile, "By the way, Boss Tu will reimburse the training fee."

Tu Ying: "..."

How come after all the calculations, I'm going to lose money?

"And those racing issues I mentioned to you, resolve them before this week. Fire prevention... whether you buy a car fire extinguisher or are willing to spend some money to get a fire suppression system, make sure it's all in place," Su Jin said.

She turned and nodded at Zhou Zheng, who was watching the show, "You need to undergo systematic training. Although your basic skills are not bad, you need better upgrades and training. Put your unlicensed taxi driving on hold for now."

Tu Ying stole a glance at Zhou Zheng's expression, afraid that he was angry.

"You set the schedule for me, and as for what I do, that's none of your business," Zhou Zheng said, his tone unfriendly.

Su Jin glared at him. "Professional racers train for eight hours a day. You're just a self-taught driver; you should put in twice the training effort! Otherwise, how will you win?"

"I already said, if I lose, I'll pay you double the bonus. Shouldn't you be hoping I lose? Why are you watching me so closely? Am I your employee?" Zhou Zheng retorted.

That nonchalant tone was really irritating. Su Jin couldn't understand where his inexplicable anger came from when she was clearly helping him win the championship.

"Hey, we're all on the same team, let's not argue." Tu Ying, acting as a peacemaker, intervened at the right time.

Zhou Zheng never gave them any face. He put on his helmet, got back into the race car, stepped on the gas, and drove off, leaving them with a face full of exhaust fumes.

Su Jin clenched her fists, telling herself to take a deep breath. Race car drivers all have tempers, all have tempers, all have… Bullshit! What's with the attitude? Do you even have any achievements to dare act so arrogantly in front of me!

Tu Ying, standing beside her, fanned her while pushing Wang Tianle back into the car. "Miss Su, don't take it to heart, he's crazy!"

Su Jin glared at him, annoyed. "Boss Tu, do you even realize you need him to collect your bonuses? How can he understand the limits of this race car if he doesn't train? How can I bring out his full potential?"

"I'll go and coax him, I guarantee I'll win him over!" Tu Ying smiled obsequiously, "It's just that the training fee..."

"I'll train him; it won't cost much," Su Jin said through gritted teeth.

Tu Ying immediately changed her tune, "No problem, I'll definitely persuade him to listen to you! But..."

Tu Ying gently shook her fan, her smile fading. "Miss Su, you have your own secrets, and so does Zhou Zheng. He has his own schedule, so don't pressure him."

"What secret?" Su Jin frowned.

"If he doesn't want to talk about it, it's best not to ask. That's my most sincere advice," Tu Ying said with a smile, her eyes narrowed.
